Sat2Chart (formerly GE2KAP) now supports editing as well as creating mbtiles charts so you add local knowledge to them. The attachment shows a mbtiles chart created with Sat2Chart that invoked the Techsmith's Snagit editor to update it before saving it.

Re: OpenCPN Version 5 Released

I'm having some trouble on my MacBook Pro running Sierra with the new O5.0. I can't seem to find the chart downloader tab like on 4.8. I can see the NOAA RNC/ENC charts both on file and viewing them on Ocpn. I want to download more charts in other regions (East FL) but the tab just isn't there. Am I not looking in the right spot? I don't see a plugin for the basic charts and I don't remember needing one for 4.8. Also, the manual is still using the old interface so wasn't much help. I'm including a screen shot of the Charts tab.

The chart downloader plugin not working on old macOS versions will be fixed in the next maintenance release.

Re: OpenCPN Version 5 Released

Hello Dave, Pavel, ...

The name of version 5.0 of the S63 plugin does not correspond to what can be expected. It does not include the mention sv50.

See the screenshot.

Is the downloaded file adapted for OCPN version 5.0 or is there a casting error?

Gilletarom...

S63 has been updated for O5. The name change is pending, but make no functional difference.

Thank.

Just a note about a very old little bug in S63 that is still present in O5.0

During a first installation like the one I just made, on my Lenovo W10, when opening S63 for the first time, the window is empty.
You have to widen by hand, the window very slightly, and presto ... It fills up.

It's magic !!!

Re: OpenCPN Version 5 Released

Does anyone know if there is a limit to the size of an MBTILES file that OpenCPN supports? As a test I created a large MBTILES file with SASPlanet (2.5GB) and attempted to read it with OpenCPN. When I rebuild the chart database, I get a momentary flash of the popup and nothing happens beyond that.

Is anyone using OpenCPN with really large MBTILES databases?

I have many testing tilesets in 1-2GB range, some of them created very unreasonably, all of them displaying with no problem. So please share the settings you used to create the tileset in question (geographical extent, zoom levels included etc.)

Sure. Using Navionics Sonarcharts

Zooms: 1-19
Use tiles from lower zooms: yes
Use xyz scheme: yes
Image format: Auto

The original area is approximately 20 x 20 NM.

By the way, I looked at the dataset with sqlitebrowser in Linux, and it appears to be good.

- First obvious error is you used the XYZ scheme, mbtiles as per the standard are TMZ.
- Including ZL 19 is vastly unnecessary (Actually I see most of the sets with similar content not needing to go further than ZL 16)
- Including all the zoom levels might be unnecessary and you might be good including just even or odd ones
- Including very low zoom levels in a tileset covering 20x20NM is not a good idea at all as for example ZL 1 will make your tileset "cover" half the planet. Your whole tileset actually covers approximately 1 ZL 10 tile...

Re: OpenCPN Version 5 Released

Ah, okay. Lots to learn here! I was under the impression from previous posts I read that xyz was the preferred method.

Agreed on the lower zooms - this was more of a stress test than anything else. When I make KAPS I typically just choose even zooms, and don't go closer than 18.

I've been playing around with selecting a smaller area and choosing a single, very small, zoom. I'm finding that in many cases SASPlanet isn't downloading the lower zooms anyway - if I try to view the area with just SASPlanet, many of lower zooms aren't there.

I'm grateful for your help. I'm going to run this again with more reasonable settings and see what I get.

Re: OpenCPN Version 5 Released

I think maybe French text could be written in English as well?

Or is the Forum language French now?

I would not bother you but you know what mess Google translate does of French - English translations ...

Re: OpenCPN Version 5 Released

Okay, learning... I'm finding that SASPlanet is more reliable in creating mbtiles with lower zooms if you cache the area first, then set SASPlanet to just use cache. Also, I wasn't aware that OpenCPN didn't like two mbtiles files in the chart directory - it seems to only use one.

I also am not aware of any such limitation and tend to say no such limitation exists.
