Many thanks to cagney and kbsea for creating this great document.
We hope you enjoy it!

Kudos to the two! Nicely written.

But I'd like some clarification in the discussion of Options-Ships-RoutesPoints Tab it says

The 'V' hotkey to toggle visibility of all navobjects In the Routes & Mark Manager Waypoint tab the first two columns affect the visibility.

I cannot find where a 'V' hotkey does anything.

Terry ...

For me the 'v' key turns off waypoints, routes and tracks on the main chart display. For dual display it will turn these off in the window that is being used.

Terry,
A dot is missing. It should read
Quote:
Other Options that Affect Waypoints Visibility and Routes

The 'V' hotkey to toggle visibility of all navobjects.
In the Routes & Mark Manager Waypoint tab the first two columns affect the visibility.
I hope that is clearer. I'm not able to directly edit the page, but this editing will be included in the next update.
Thanks
Thomas

Thanks Mike ... would be good to have your description added.

Had I found this earlier, would have saved two days of work updating my collection of anchorages and routes to not show them above a designated scale. It's a quick and clean solution to decluttering!

Re: OpenCPN Version 5 Features -- An Introduction

Perhaps a further development of this page image
https://opencpn.org/OpenCPN/assets/img/50info/odg3.png
could have the following items pointed out:
  • Chart Panels = Canvas 1 & 2
  • Active Canvas (Chart Panel) indicated with a blue bar (select with Tab or mouse)
  • Adjustable vertical black bar (adjust with mouse)
but the text is pretty self explanatory.

Re: OpenCPN Version 5 Features -- An Introduction

The introduction is now updated.
See https://opencpn.org/OpenCPN/info/beta.html

Among other thing we now include bits about these subjects

Exchange Templates!
Persistent Layers.
Change in some Standard Waypoint Icons.
Expanded Vector Chart information.
Preprocessing S57 and S63 charts
Warning for empty chart groups.
and a number of small changes.

The quick way to change the ScaMin value for a lot of waypoints and/or layers:
  • Export the waypoints to a file and open this file in a text editer (Notepad?)
  • Do a search and replace on the ScaleMinvalue (Default = 2147483646) to anything you like.
  • Save the file and import again in OpenCPN.
This way it doesn't take two days but just over two minutes instead

Re: OpenCPN Version 5 Features -- An Introduction

Terry..Dirk..
If I'm correct you may also need to delete the exported WPTs from OCPN before re-import. Otherwise I think the "check for duplicates" logic while import will hinder the edited WPTs to be imported?

Re: OpenCPN Version 5 Features -- An Introduction

Would it be possible to make the icons in the e.g. options follow the user-interface-scale-factor setting?
Thank you for implementing new comments field under connections - maybe some more screen-real-estate optimisation would be helpful - specifically on smaller screens.

Many great improvements - congrats to the developers!

Re: OpenCPN Version 5 Features -- An Introduction

I'm looking forward to testing it. But I need it to run in portable mode. Will v5 (or the current beta) run in portable mode with -p switch?

i.e. (in Windows),
Code:
start /realtime opencpn.exe -p
