Re: OpenCPN Version 5 Beta Starts

Dirk,

I wonder if you are seeing the same thing I was:

I was seeing that on the edges of the mbtiles I was getting the higher zoom and in the middle the lower zoom. At first I though it was a problem, but I think it is just that the tiles for the higher zoom extend farther than your original polygon, so it looks "wrong", but in fact you only have the lower zoom within the polygon while some of the upper zooms go beyond.

Geoff.

Absolutely right. Good ideas.

Hi Dave,

Any obvious error report or other info on the failures to install?

The first few attempts to download and install again simply reinstalled the old version, built on 12-Jan I think. After restarting Firefox and downloading again I got the new one, I'm guessing the download was being cached somewhere. The vdr download had a subtly different name (_- replaced with -) after you rebuilt it so I'm assuming I immediately got the new version. So in short, I don't think it was an OpenCpn problem. Now I'll go and do some testing.

Cheers,

Aedan

Hi Geoff,
I agree with your analysis, when displaying a single chart. But when mbtiles overlap, and the second mbtiles has higher detail for a specific area, opencpn ought to use the higher detail mbtiles for that area, at least in quilt mode.

Even worse: Sometimes, in non-quilting mode, opencpn seems to switch back to the lesser detail mbtiles when I zoom in an overlapping area.

On the positive note, mbtiles support is great, and seeing so many others out there using it is even better

Dirk

MBtiles show land only in black. MBtiles seem not to show when OpenGL is off (completely black chart area).

Any special reason to go with OpenGL OFF?

Re: OpenCPN Version 5 Beta Starts

Some folks have old computers ;-)
It was merely something I noticed when the MBtiles did not show up.
When I switched to OpenGL it worked.

Here a screenshot with the black land mass. A slight grey or brown would be more pleasant.

I like to add that I really like the new feature to be able to use MBtiles and be able to look at CM93 or others in parallel.

Beeing able to see the same area at two different zoom levels is wonderful.
Perfect would be the option to pan/autofollow in parallel and to be able to adjust the size of tge two different displays.

Awesome work everybody. THANK YOU! Click image for larger version

The black background looks like you worked with layers (navionics) but the basemap is empty. Not sure this is a opencpn problem, but more of an issue what got exported to mbtiles.

You can do autofollow on both screens/canvases. The new autofollow function is actually pretty neat. you move the canvas until the boat is where you want to keep it, hit the little boat icon, the red circle turns green, and opencpn moves the chart to keep the boat were you put it. Works on both active charts!

Great. Add manual pan in parallel :-)

Re: OpenCPN Version 5 Beta Starts

And the Autofollow look ahead mode is slightly changed as well. It's controlled by each screen menu bar.
It still keeps the boat 2/3 from the in front screen edge but now you can click or even drag the screen without loosing the autofollow function as long as the boat is visible. Once you release the mouse button the boat will return to it's 2/3 position after a short time.

Re: OpenCPN Version 5 Beta Starts

It would be nice to add a quick switch of map canvases in the Chart Panel Options menu. Either Selecting saved Interface Templates from the drop-down list.
What do you think of this offer?

"Map Canvases" = "templates"? You are thinking about a similar mechanism as fors chart groups?
