Geoff...

You probably do not speak about the zoom buttons, the buttons to switch charts to smaller/larger scale are gone, you need to use the keyboard shortcuts or the piano buttons representing the respective charts in O5.

Re: OpenCPN Version 5 Beta Starts

Pavel,

Yes you are correct those are the buttons I'm talking about!

This is a problem for me because if you don't have a keyboard in your cockpit but have a mouse as we do... then the V4 works, but V5 does not.

We do have touch screen, but my fingers are too big for the small piano buttons

Geoff.

Geof...

And for these situations we have the launcher plugin which can send any preprogrammed keystrokes to the core application connected to a big button...

Re: OpenCPN Version 5 Beta Starts

Pavel,

Okay - I'll try the plugin.... I've just tried installing this plugin - both on 4.8.8 and 4.9.9.1507 (Windows) and neither shows up in the Plugins list - is there anything odd when installing the .exe?

thanks,

Geoff.

No idea, you are the first to report this and I didn't test it on Windows myself for a very long time...

Re: OpenCPN Version 5 Beta Starts

Ok - I have it working now.. it wasn't installing the DLL in teh correct folder - it was defaulting to C:\Program Files (x86)\OpenCPN which wasn't working.

When I pointed it to the correct version of Open CPN it then put it in a sub-folder eg: C:\Program Files (x86)\OpenCPN 4.8.8\OpenCPN\plugins

Once fixed it does run. But how do you do keystrokes? The wiki says:
Q: Can I run internal OpenCPN-commands with Launcher?
A: No. Launcher is only meant for external commands.

https://github.com/nohal/launcher_pi#special-keys - What you want is F7 and F8, so the commands will be KBD:!F7,F7 and KBD:!F8,F8

Re: OpenCPN Version 5 Beta Starts

Pavel,

Thanks - that works. I guess the wiki on OpenCPN needs to be updated...

Is there a way to have smaller buttons? If the Launcher is supposed to replace the old buttons for F7 and F8 the button needs to be smaller to match the size of the old buttons in V4.

Re: OpenCPN Version 5 Beta Starts

The launcher window can be resized by the user to any size he likes, the buttons always fill the available space. You can of course also hide it when not in use.

Yes, someone needs to update the wiki, I just don't have time to do it myself, actually did not know this page exists and contains the unfortunate text it contains until today...

Well now that you know how to do it. Grab some screen shots, login, and update the wiki - somebody will be grateful down the road and you will have contributed

Geoff
I was having the same problem -- this is caused by an mbtile file that does not have any charts. This can easily be reproduced by running SASPlanet, select a region, don't download tiles, and export to mbtile. This creates a small mbtile file with the metadata, but no charts. OpenCPN crashes when trying to read this file.

It would be nice if OpenCPN would skip the incomplete mbtile file, note the error in the log and keep reading charts. This "empty" mbtile will cause OpenCPN to crash!

Re: OpenCPN Version 5 Beta Starts

geoffr I thought you were made an editor earlier.

Send me a PM with your email and you will be given rights to edit.
Also please advise what the title of the page should be and where you think it should be located.

I will make a page for you to get you started. You can start by making that page a succinct and explicit as possible through words and text.

BTW the page pavel linked to indicated how to request this. So reading does help sometimes.
