The Official Beta test Release Version 4.99.1507 for OpenCPN Version 5 is available now.

Plus, for the Windows 7,8,10 users, the email request for grib files now should allow other email clients than Outlook. Works here with Thunderbird as default email client. Please test with other email clients.

When will the trouble with Z-order for windows in macOS be fixed?
The NMEA Debug Window opens still behind the Options window and cannot be activated or moved to front.
It is time now to fix these many years old problems instead of inventing new and useless functions.

As soon as you post the patch. I would appreciate if you could test all the other macOS z-order fixes in this release, which unlike the NMEA debug window, which as you sure know may in no way be displayed on top of the modal Toolbox were already implemented.

I see that 2292 Waypoint default icons has been implemented any chance W/P name on defaut coul be implemented it was added as a comment to 2292.

I use the hidden toolbar on Windows10 to maximize the screen display.

With the beta versions of OpenCPN an unusual thing happens to the W10 taskbar.

First image shows OpenCPN minimized on the taskbar.

Second image shows the taskbar hidden but the Start icon is overlayed by something about OpenCPN.

This does not happen with any of my other programs.

A usability regression I think.


When working with the route and mark manager there are a couple of issues.



1. Select an item, say a track, and perform an operation (open properties, reduce a track etc.) close the operation and then use the arrow keys (up or down) to move the highlighted item and the highlight jumps to the top of the list. Very annoying when working with a large list as you have to scroll all the way down again or use the mouse instead of the arrow keys.



2. Sort a list and perform and operation on an item, the list is them resorted to the default alphabetical list. Can the sorting order remain persistent at least for the current session?


In settings > Display > Routes & Points
Choosing to show waypoints at a scale greater than (some setting) doesn't seem to work. I have tried several values but waypoints are always show as per their individual properties. (always show is not selected).


I like how this version is coming together. Will keep messing around to see what I can break.

This feature only applies to new waypoints, and it's not at all clear. The text labels needs changing.

Please enter your points in the tracker! That guarantees that they will be considered.

With Windows10 I have edited several thousand waypoints to add the 'Extended' properties of scale and nearest tidal station. A big job but will be worth it, especially for anchorages with a bar/shoal at the entrance, SCUBA sites, etc. You can download my blurb here. And after putting in the scale I discovered the 'V' hot key which removes waypoints from the screen at any scale

Yes it is very good. I have started work on some of the areas that I sail where I have what are basically the cruising guide notes for anchorages entered as extended waypoints; sometimes with linkes to mudmaps and satellite images etc... For these I use an (i) waypoint icon (info - info) and set the scale setting so that they only appear when tightly zoomed in on an area. Other waypoints and more general notes can be shown a smaller scale.. A very nice feature.



Would really like to see this implemented for editing layers too.



I don't find the V hot-key very useful because it hides everything on the screen. Often you just want to turn off all waypoints and routes but still show recorded tracks for example, or vice versa. I would love to see hot-keys for each of; waypoints, tracks, and routes.

After editing in the "edit MMSI properties" dialog the tabel in the tabel in the Options->Ships->mmsi properties is not updated. (At least if you did not change the mmsi number itself)

I did post a PR to correct it.
