Re: OpenCPN Version 4.8.4 Released

It may be there, but is not visible. Please be patient with me. I am not a computer expert. I am opening Finder, opening MacintoshHD, opening library, opening preferences. I do not see the OpenCPN folder or navobj.xml file anywhere. A search does not find them either.

Back in May when you helped me put my data file into OpenCPN 4.8.4, I had no trouble finding the folder or file. This change shortly afterwords, and I have not been able to find these since. My data, tracks, waypoints, etc are still there when I open OpenCPN as are all these from my recent cruise.

You should:
Open Finder, Go to the Users folder, go to the <your username> folder, go to Library folder, go to the Preferences folder, go to the opencpn folder, everything you are looking for is there.

These are NOT the same folders as the ones you are looking at at the top level in "Macintosh HD"

Nothing changed at any moment in time, you are just looking at a wrong place now.

Wrong! Correct is:

- Open Finder
- Open MacintoshHD
- DO NOT open Library but open Users!!!
- Open your user name!!! That is your home directory.

- Open Library
- Open Preferences
- Open opencpn

Not need to be a computer expert but know to read.

Already tried going through my user folder. No library folder there. The guest folder has a library folder, but I cannot open it even though I have admin privileges. Yes, I tried changing the security setup for Guest too.

Car no sense getting rude. With advanced degrees in science and engineering, I think my reading skills are adequate.

It is absolutely impossible that there wasn't a Library folder in your user's home directory on macOS as pretty much every single application and OS component has it's data stored there. I do not understand why you mix what you do with Guest account at all.
You may switch hidden content display in finder by pressing Command+Shift+Period although these folders are not hidden, at least on my systems.

Apple purposely hides user library folders. They are accessible using a few simple steps.

Re: OpenCPN Version 4.8.4 Released

Hi, I have been looking over the app and can not find a way to make a printout of all my waypoints so I do not have to copy each one.I have found the option of printing out the map but not the coordinates. Is there an option in Open CPN 4.8.4 that can do this?
If only there was a way to open up my GPX saves I could print all my waypoints.
Thanks guys for all the info you post.

Sloppy..
There are some different options for this. Here's one:
Open Route and marks manager from tools menu and go to tab Waypoints.
Select the WPs you want to copy. If all click the first, scroll down to the end, hold key Shift down and click the last.

Click button "Export selected" and select a suitable folder.
The document is of xml format and can be opened by any text editor.

You probably want to use GPSBabel to convert your GPX files to CSV format, which you can open and format to your liking in any spreadsheet application, like Libreoffice Calc or Excel.

That is exactly correct (Actually GPSBabel does not convert anything). You just need to format the cells to your liking in the spreadsheet software you are using.

Ok, glad I am on the right path, as far as formating the cells to my liking in the spreadsheet ....well do not have the slightest idea about this so I will keep on investigating .
Thanks a whole bunch

An example formula for conversion of decimal degrees of latitude to your preferred format in Excel:
Code:
=CONCATENATE(FLOOR(ABS(A1);1);" ";FIXED((ABS(A1)-INT(ABS(A1))) * 60;4); " "; IF(A1>=0; "N"; "S"))

Theres Nohal's answer, (and they are always good) but you can also use non microsoft polluted spreadsheets, like the attached one...where I change from machine-readable latlongs to human readable, and include the N to S and E to W decisions.

Here is another sexy formula, but I don't know if it will work in Excel, which makes mistakes (like 360 days in a year) Don't use excel to work out your vacation time, you will lose 5.25 days.

=ACOS( SIN((B3)*PI()/180)*SIN((B4)*PI()/180) + COS((B3)*PI()/180)*COS((B4)*PI()/180)*COS((C4)*PI()/180-(C3)*PI()/180) ) * 3440

Where B3 and B4 are two waypoints. (3440 is the radius of the earth measured in shot shackles)
