Re: OpenCPN Version 4.8.0 Released

Hi
I loose AIS targets and their COG predictor from screen when zoomed in.
O 4.8 on ubuntu 16.04
Screen shot 1 has 2 targets.
Screen shot 2 is one roll of the mouse in and 1 target disappears.
Screen shot 3 is one more roll of the mouse and both disappear.

I know very well at this zoom I should be looking out the window and not the computer screen, but surely the targets should never disappear from the screen.

Re: OpenCPN Version 4.8.0 Released

Hi
Measure tool question.
O 4.8 ubuntu 16.04 x 3 computers.

Right click measure on gets screen shot 4.
Shift "M" gets screen shot 5.
All further right clicks and Shift "M" gets SShot 5. I like this enhancement.

However turn O off and restart I get back to SShot 4.

Is there a setting I have overlooked?

Screen size is well detected (510mm) in my case and using manual setting, OpenGL or not does not change the issue.

Currrent and Tide icons are too big what make that to get the detail graph you must right click on the top half of the icon. What shows that some other part of the software expect that icon a big smaller.
The detail graph is also much bigger then it was on 4.6 and 4.4.

The AIS target are drawn with thick line with balck and colour on the vector making it very umpractical when many boats are tracked in busy area.

See screen shot.

Not normal...

What happens when you are panning a target "off-screen"?

And perhaps your AIS settings from Options|Ships|AIS targets

Screen shot of settings.

Re panning off screen, if you mean target is off screen but predictor on screen, well no I don’t loose it from screen.
I only loose from zooming.

What happens if you wait a few minutes? Do the predictor lines reappear?

I lose the predictor lines when panning or zooming. When next the AIS message for that vessel arrives the predictor is updated and shows again.

This has to do with the AIS display logic. It tries to figure out if a target is so far off screen that it is not worth drawing that target. I think your observation could be considered a bug and it would be good to place an item in the Flyspray tracker.

Note: this does not affect alerts about short CPAs. It only affects the display logic. And in my limited testing the situation quickly resolves on its own as AIS data is updated.

Re: OpenCPN Version 4.8.0 Released

I have compiled OpenCPN 4.8.0 on Debian 9 x86_64 host and have run into a couple of issues I'd like to share a couple of problems :

1. When opening the setting popup window and try to resize the width of the window then I quite often end up resizing it to zero width and the window becomes a vertical bar. It take meticulous aiming and some counter intuitive vertical pull to get the window back to see the contents. It probably needs a fix in the code somehow. Just wanted to mention it so it could maybe be fixed in a future update

2. Again when opening the settings window - or any other popup - when closing again input focus for the main window have disappeared (text in title bar is greyed out) and any key presses are therefore ignored until you press the mouse somewhere in the title bar or main window. Quite annoying because I tend to forget and re-focus after first trying and wondering ..:-)

3. In another thread I have raised an issue that sometimes my S-63 cards get corrupted and OpenCPN start to get slow and charts dont display right. Someone in that thread is already investigating if the charts in question is to blame but I thought I'd mention it here too if someone else is seeing this kind of problem. Solution is to erase charts and re-install, but that is of course an annoyance and could be a problem if it happens if you are not in "armchair navigation mode" (as I currently am).

best

Hi Dave,

ok, I found out, that if the Laptop not connected via WLAN-Thetering, the systems lost their connection and make this problems.

So, my solution is, always stay connected via WLAN-Thetering to my Smartphone.

i have to study some VMware docs how to configure the VMware-systems network better :-)
I think, it was my fault of the config...... but the software should not crash if connection lost !

Re: OpenCPN Version 4.8.0 Released

Small problem with 4.8

I put in a new course computer today. Having issues, so went to O to use a test to verify my NMEA streams.

I cannot type or change the contents of the input or output filtering under settings.
Under NMEA monitoring window...
The "PAUSE" button is suppressed. (ie does not work)
The X close window icon is suppressed.
The Spacebar shuts the window.

Linux Mint 18.

Re: OpenCPN Version 4.8.0 Released

Re my previous post.

The window for inputting connection filtering was too narrow, so I did not see the [...]
Pulldown until I stretched the window to the right. That problem solved.

Pause does not work
[X] does not work
Space does close the monitoring window.
Monitor filtering does work.

Just a question...Why is every incoming string duplicated ?

Thanks for everything.

HI, I'm slowly getting into this. My download is fine but my charts don't show water depth. Is a plug-in needed?

Thanks, Jim

Re: OpenCPN Version 4.8.0 Released

Jim,
If they are vector charts, go to Options > Charts > Vector Tab

Set Mariner's Standard, then click on "Reset to Standard"
Then click on Display "Display Depth Settings"

You can also set Depth Contour in Mariner's Standard.

No plugin needed.

What charts are there?

Undoubtedly marine charts type CM93, S57, or S63 or oeSENC. Use the "S" command on the keyboard "
