A good approach to follow:
- Go to the ProgramFiles "OpenCPN" folder, and use the uninstall programs, preferably starting with the plugins, and ending with the OpenCPN.
- Check that the "opencpn" initialization folder of program data has been removed. Otherwise, do it manually.
- Use the CCleaner software to clean the PC and in particular also clean the Windows registers.
- Download OpenCPN again and all the plugins you need.
- Install OpenCPN.
- Run OpenCPN to verify that the operation is correct.
- Install, one by one, the plugins you need.
- Run each plugin before installing another one.

And this method will certainly allow you to understand when things stop working. Can be a plugin is involved.

I wish you all well again.
It's working again!
Followed the procedure mentioned above.
So I'll stick with Windows for a while...

Re: OpenCPN Version 4.8.0 Released

I am running win7 and I have updated to 4.8 and nothing works. I have all the pluggins in the pluggin folder and have activated all the exe. files. No pluggins appear in the pluggin menu and when I try to open the option toolbar again the whole toolbar disappears and does not return and I am unable to close the program. I must go to the task manager. I don't know what do do. I tried re-installing but that didn't help. Has anybody had similar problems? or have any ideas?

Re: OpenCPN Version 4.8.0 Released

Delete all the plugin dll files in the plugins folder. Then install 4.8.0 again (no need to uninstall). Then install each plugin you need anew. Try to run O after you install each plugin. If any plugin causes a problem uninstall it.

You have updated OpenCPN to 4.8. But what version did you have before?

If it was a version too old, especially 4.4 or older, we must follow the same method as the one recalled in the Titaantje previous post. And, also download the plugins install files because, from 4.4 to 4.6.1, the plugin are re-compiled.

Re: OpenCPN Version 4.8.0 Released

Rick,

The plugin problem is a bug in 4.8.0 that will be fixed with the next release.

TDan, Yes, that's right about the plugins. ---Now I recall it.
What is being done? Kicking out old plugins somehow by testing the opencpn.lib that is used, or the API?

What do you suggest about that item in particular? Leave it or remove it?

Re: OpenCPN Version 4.8.0 Released

I would like to add to my previous post that having successfully re-installed 4.8.0 I re-installed all the pluggins and tested each one after install.Everything worked except for Objectsearch pi-0.7 which crashed opencpn.Could be just my system but if anybody else is having a problem they should check this.I deleted this pluggin and everything is just fine.
