OpenCPN Version 4.6.1 Released

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
---------------------

31 March, 2017

OpenCPN Version 4.6.1 Released

The OpenCPN Development Team is proud to announce the release of OpenCPN Version 4.6.1

This version is a maintenance release of OpenCPN.

OpenCPN is a cross platform electronic navigation system (ECS) supporting a variety of cartography standards and hardware interface protocols. Versions are available for Linux, Windows, Macintosh, and ARM computer architectures.
Since widespread introduction in 2008, OpenCPN has gained a solid reputation worldwide.

OpenCPN is running on hardware from tiny Raspberry Pis with 4" screens up to networked workstations. Specific user scenarios and needs are easily accommodated by using the Plug-in architecture and the wide scope of user settings.
A responsive international user and developer community together with integrated documentation help make installation and use of OpenCPN a pleasure.

Some of the features of OpenCPN include

Quilted Raster(RNC) and Vector(ENC) digital chart display
Full compliant support for official vector charts in S-57/S-63 format and InlandENCs
Industry standard GPS receiver interfacing, with "moving map" on-screen vessel tracking
AIS receiver interfacing with configurable target safety monitoring
Integrated Route, Track, and Waypoint database, with industry standard Import/Export capabilities
Tide and Current prediction, with on-screen overlay of predicted data.
Broad International Language support
PlugIn architecture allowing on-going third-party functional enhancements

OpenCPN is released under the GPLV2 license. The executable program and its source code are available for immediate, free, and unlimited download from github.com, and several other public sources.

As a successor to OpenCPN Version 4.6.0, OpenCPN Version 4.6.1 contains several incremental corrections and improvements.

Among them are:

.. Improved performance for some systems using large route and waypoint datasets.
.. Corrected support for Norwegian language systems.
.. Corrected support for some Raspberry Pi Touchscreen systems.

We hope you enjoy OpenCPN Version 4.6.1, and we look forward to your continued feedback and support.

More information is available at opencpn.org

W10. OpenGL ON.

I confirm partially.
At home, no crash. But only the icon bar, the map bar, and the status bar change lighting. The chartarea remains illuminated completely.

No problem whith O461 under ubuntu 16.04 32 bits.

Log file here joined.

I note that with OpenGL OFF, the NV-chart not corectly displayed when return from black to day light

Gilletarom...

Recall that some raster charts do not contain alternate color palettes. So with these charts, all you can do is "F6" dimming for night vision.

Test on some US NOAA charts to confirm.

Thanks
Dave

You are right. My poor memory ... Pfuuuu.

So,
Test with Brazil raster charts, Ok, even with OpenGL ON or OFF
Test with VMH raster charts, Only the top and bottom bars change light. No problem if I use openGL ON or OFF.
Test with NV-Verlag raster charts:
1 ° As with the raster of VMH if OpenGL ON.
2 ° Display chart area anomaly if openGL OFF. See the previous screen shot.

Dimmings F6 work correctly. Please note that I cannot reproduce the display anomaly with Nv-Verlag charts ????

Re: OpenCPN Version 4.6.1 Released

I get the following error message when tying to install 4.6.1 what am i doing wrong.

"The program cannot start, MSVCR100.dll is missing on the computer. Try to install again."

I have been running 4.4 for a while without any problem.

I have the MSVCR100.dll on the computer, but maybe not in the correct folder

Re: OpenCPN Version 4.6.1 Released

That´s mine as well.

The MSVCR100.dll mentioned in the error message is from Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable Package.
Not the version OCPN 4.6.1 is built for.

Looks for me like some left over for some plug-in. Speculating!

Re: OpenCPN Version 4.6.1 Released

Got a few issues here.
It's fairly slow on zoom and opening of the tools menu both with OpenGL and without.
It takes a few seconds to open the tools menu compaired to previous versions pre 4.6.0.

Zoom is pretty sluggish (on CM93/2), the wait circle comes up every time I zoom in or out.

Also there are a few minor things:
1. During installation i noted that it says 4.6.1 on the top/heading but several places in the install GUI it says 4.6.0.

2. I installed O with Norwegian language, but the final screen with the clause/warning was written in English not Norwegian as it has been.

Been tested on this system:
AMD Phenom II X6 1090T (@ 3.2GHz)
16GB RAM
512 GB SSD
GeForce GTX 670 2GB RAM (@ 1920x1080) latest drivers
Windows 10 Pro
Bitdefender antivirus (no warnings)

Re: OpenCPN Version 4.6.1 Released

Hotrod...

I do not understand the performance problems with Win10. Others have not reported performance problems in general.

One way to investigate performance problems is to install two versions of OCPN in parallel. This way they will be known to use the exact same config files, chart sets, and CPU settings. Then, while running each version individually, subjective performance impressions will be valid.

The language problems:
Crept into the Norsk .po file at the last minute. I will correct the installer and upload a new copy transparently.

Thanks
Dave
