Re: OpenCPN Version 4.2 Released

Dave & Petter5,

I installed O4.2.0 from the nohal binary repository and it installed fine. None of the plugins will install, except br24radar, which I'll get to later.

The message I get when trying to install AISradar and vdr plugins is that libwxbase3 and libwxgtk3 are missing and cannot be installed. I tried today to install from the GUI, but got somewhat of the same message, but this time is wanted versions greater than or equal to 3.0.2. When I try to get those versions, they are not to be found on the Ubuntu store. Perhaps I need to add another repository.

I found and downloaded the br24radar plugin v1.3.1. It installed OK, but crashes O when I open the plugin options. Wrong API?

OS is Xubuntu 15.10 on an Intel CPU with 8 GB of RAM.

Cheers, ....Erik.

Re: OpenCPN Version 4.2 Released

Erik...

The PPAs for O4.2 PlugIns are not updated, as you can see from a look here, for example:

https://launchpad.net/~nohal/+archiv...series_filter=

If you need a particular PlugIn, you may want to build it locally until we can get all this sorted out. Not enough hours in the day....

Thanks
Dave

Re: OpenCPN Version 4.2 Released

hello Dave,

I opened an alert on the flyspray to report a bug regarding O and VDR.

However, I must point out that the test that led me to this has been done with a 4.2 versiond'O found on the Thingie of RGleason.
opencpn_4.2.0_7da6c5c-proper-fault-dcmode.exe
The VDR plugin used is in place on the plugins page of the stable version of 42 O: vdr_pi-0.4-win32.exe
Other information (which are probably irrelevant):
Dashboard enabled,
Grib On,
S63 installed and enabled.

start O
Check in the "Options / Display", it is "up North"
Start VDR (with the attached registration Den Helder region Nederland)
Without stopping VDR, open "Options / Display" and enter the "Course Up"
Then crash.

I said that this is a time I encounter this bug with the official version O42. But still using the plugin "OCPN draw" that I accused of causing the crash.

Log file and VDR file used are joined in the flyspray.

However, I can not reproduce this crash systematically.

Gilletarom.

Re: OpenCPN Version 4.2 Released

Hello Dave,

About the plugins for Ubuntu: understood. I'll wait for the updated repositories.

Thanks for all your hard work. It is really appreciated by way more people than you hear from in this forum.

Cheers, ....Erik.

Gilletarom...

re:
Crash on VDR, "Course UP"

I cannot reproduce immediately.
Does it crash if you click on the GPS/Compass icon in the same way to switch to "Course Up"? Or only by the Options->Display dialog?

Any other tips how to induce the crash?

Dave

Re: OpenCPN Version 4.2 Released

Thanks a lot to developers and testers of 4.2 Version!

I've seen following the development and testing in the Forum that was a great and hard work.

It runs fine in Windows 7 (AMD)

Congratulations and thank you again.

Re: OpenCPN Version 4.2 Released

I updated my OpenCPN to 4.2 but now cannot access my s63 charts.

Do I need a new install permit for the upgrade?

Re: OpenCPN Version 4.2 Released

Same as for all the other plug-ins there is a new version 1.4 for S63 as well - either on o-charts.org or at the plug-in downloads .
You will not need a new InstallPermit. Perhaps you might need to re-install cell permits and charts.

As the new version contains some other improvements there are backports for OCPN 4.0 (Windows and Mac) available for download at o-charts.org.

Re: OpenCPN Version 4.2 Released

Hello All, Hello Dave,

Please, in the language file of the "core OpenCPN," there is the word "Port". I see in Crowdin that it is used only once here:
#: Src / ais.cpp: 276 src / options.cpp 1675

I fail to see this item appear on the screen, trying OpenCPN. Even using my VDR files to observe the information transmitted by AIS targets.

Who can tell me what is the meaning of this word in this particular context. Is "Port side" or possibly "Harbour"?

Thank you in advance. Gilletarom.

Re: OpenCPN Version 4.2 Released

Gille..
I've checked if you don't mind.
The first Port, AIS, is used for "the port side of the boat"
The second Port, options, is used for "data port connection"

This is not easy since Crowdin/Gettext will use one translation for both. A solution for this example is to rename (options)port to "data-port" or similar.

Hakan thank you.

When I filter in the pot OpenCPN file, I get a list of all items that contain the string "port" or "port". There is one item that contains a single word. This is the item "Port"
There is already an item "Data port". This one works properly. It is translated into French by "Port com". No problem.

There is also an item "Port hand" but it can not designate a "Harbour". It is also translated "Babord". The good thing is.

I therefore consider that the only item that bothers me is "Port". You say that means the portside side of a boat. I'll change its translation in crowdin. Too bad I did not see this anomaly earlier. We will have to expect the next version of O to either corrected.

This will be a problem in the plugin "WatchDog" for french users (only). But if the language file of this plugin is modified, as I requested in the plugin thread, it could solve the problem.

And I still apologize for this anomaly that should have never existed.

Best regards. Gilletarom.

Gille..
Yes I suggest Babord (Actually also in Swedish!) since the data port is used in the connections tab. We've to live with that until next 4.2 update I suppose. (The AIS port is probably for "rate of turn" but I've not investigate it deeply.)

It's strange though that there isn't a single string "Starboard". This might make it more likely that the string "Port" means 'harbour' or 'electronic port', and not 'left side'. Because I can't find where in OpenCPN "Port" is displayed, I don't know what is correct.

In OpenCPN seem to be three strings starting with 'Port', and only one string starting with 'Starboard':
msgid "Port Hand Mark"
msgid "Port Hand"
msgid "Port Tender"
msgid "Port"

msgid "Starboard Hand Mark"

Edit:
I now see that in OpenCPN 'Stbd' is used instead of 'Starboard'. So the correct meaning of "Port" is 'left side' indeed (the string "Stbd" in the po-file is directly below "Port").
