Chart would move and bring the point of the "chart" just under the WP. After that, we would validate. What would hang the WP definitively at this point of the chart.

It would be much easier. Best regards. Gilletarom.
This is absolutely a touch screen problem. It's a challenge to move a waypoint on my 27" screen - can't imagine doing it on a 10" screen. I'm not sure I like Gille's solution but it would be nice to find a workable fix.

ve7mdl....

The Ubuntu PPA's will be a few more days.
For linux, I would without hesitation recommend the 4.1.1329 release currently available. The differences from that to 4.2 apply only to rotated cm93 sectored light display in high latitudes, and of course the Version name. So it is very complete and safe.

Good Luck

Gilletarom...

Sorry for the troubles on the high density touch screen.

I think we simply need to increase the size of the "hot spot" that the move mark action should recognize. That way, the move action will happen, even if the finger is not exactly on the highlighted area. Even the highlighted area could be made larger, also.

Could this work?

Bob, what do you think?

No Dave, do not be sorry for me. I just raises a general problem.
Because since the GPS of this tablet is out of use, I can use in navigation. My response to this falls just testing all kinds I do.

This might be another way to solve the problem. Who knows. This remains to be tested.

You should also know that a first version of the tutorial shoreline about 4.2 is online. Shoreline

Re: OpenCPN Version 4.2 Released

To avoid waiting for the PPA 's to be ready, I un installed my previous opencpn
Code:
sudo apt-get remove opencpn
and compiled from source to get the new 4.2 now, using the instructions Compiling - Linux | Official OpenCPN Homepage . In my previous version of opencpn I used Norwegian as language. After installing the new 4.2 with
Code:
sudo make install
, only English is available in the user-interface/language menu and I'm stuck with English menus. It seems that all the po files is in place, but I'm still not able to use any other language than US English. OS: Ubuntu 14.04 LTS x32.

Dave,

I have the same problem when I use O on a 7-inch tablet. The problem is not with the size of the "hot spot". It is not being able to see exactly where the mark will be dropped or where it is while dragging because my finger hides it.

Gilletarom's idea is to be able to be able to see the mark position on the chart image while dragging. Two fingers would be offset from the area of interest such that the mark and nearby chart details are not hidden.

On my notebook computer, it is easy to see the pointer on the screen while moving my finger on the touchpad. This is much easier to use than my tablet.

This issue happens a lot with tablet devices. The "classic" solution is to display the region immediately surrounding the "hot spot" with a "magnifier glass" feature. Then the user can more easily see what is nearby and accurately drop a mark. Only the immediate region is magnified so the user can still relate to the larger chart region.

In fact, tablets might benefit from a "magnifier glass" tool even when not trying to edit waypoints or drop marks. A lot of smaller tablets have very high pixel density making such a tool useful. After all, who among us does not have one of those chart magnifiers to enable us to see small paper chart features better? A small high res tablet is not much different.

Just as an example, the android app "aging booth" seems to have this kind of tool nicely implemented.

Re: OpenCPN Version 4.2 Released

I will grab this opportunity ...

The 'new' (-er) grib files (I think proper name grib2 file type) - can I use them in OpenCPN?

Thanks for all your effort and work!
