Re: OpenCPN Version 4.2 Released

I loaded ver 4.2 on Win 8.1 laptop. I noticed a significant increase in performance right away, but I seem to be having some issues that others are not experiencing. Each time I open ocpn I get messages that my plugins need updating (ais radar, wmm, and grader). I uploaded latest version of gradar, and the latest version of wmm is included in ver 4.2, but I still get the messages. Also, the tools button (wrench) doesn't work. Other icons on tool bar turn blue when highlighted with mouse, but wrench doesn't. Any suggestions??

Here is a segment of log file:

Patrick...

re:
The problem occured with O4.2 only and not with all the previous versions.

What was the last version that did not have the problem?
Also, I assume you are on Windows?

Thanks

Re: OpenCPN Version 4.2 Released

Greg...

Lets get you running without incompatible PlugIns first.

1. You seem to have two copies of WMM_PI installed. Will you check this? Look at the file sizes and dates, please. The bad one is probably this one:
Code:
C:\Program Files (x86)\OpenCPN\plugins\plugins\wmm_pi.dll
Note two "plugins" in the path.

2. You also seem to have two copies of aisradar_pi.dll. Same thing.

3. Delete the GRadar Plugin, at least temporarily.

Lets start there...

According to opencpn.org download page Download OpenCPN | Official OpenCPN Homepage

PPA is https://launchpad.net/~opencpn/+archive/ubuntu/opencpn Will the new 4.2 be there also, or do I have to change the PPA in my system to https://launchpad.net/~nohal/+archive/ubuntu/opencpn ??

Re: OpenCPN Version 4.2 Released

I have started on a "What's new in the OpenCPN version 4.2 page.
It's now linked from the download page.
What's new in the OpenCPN version 4.2 ? | Official OpenCPN Homepage

It's not enough with the official release statement.
We must, for example, tell new and old users about the new plugins.
There may be other issues as well, that needs explaining.

The framework for the page is up, but some of the explanatory content is still missing. I'll slowly work on it.
Have I missed something?
Feel free to contribute. It's a wiki!

We will get them loaded on the other PPA shortly.

Thanks

Dave, or Anyone:
Can you tell me how to make O use all 4 cores when it is rebuilding the texture cache? I think I remember a discussion on this subject, but I can't find it.

Thanks,
Freddie

For those who want to add this PPA to your ubuntu system, from a terminal:
Code:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:nohal/opencpn
Then:
Code:
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade
And if opencpn is not previously installed:
Code:
sudo apt-get install opencpn
and opencpn will be ready to start from the start menu.

Please read this post :
http://www.cruisersforum.com/forums/...ml#post2038602

Because nor RGleason, nor myself know how to make what it is said on this post. And so I can upload the xml file that I have.

Best regards. Gilletarom.

Re: OpenCPN Version 4.2 Released

Gilletarom...

We do not provide the ability to upload and serve arbitrary files from the opencpn.org website. For two reasons:

1. If we provide this capability, we would need much more security checking and vetting of the contributors. Otherwise, we get buried in spam.

2. The server space is donated. We want to be responsible in our usage of storage. We sure don't want any old anonymous user using this server as their own private cloud storage.

Now, having said that, we can host files. Just not directly by individual contributors.
If you (or anyone else) have a file you would like to see hosted, you may send it to me, I will upload it to the CDN space, and then tell you the link to be included in the Wiki.

Sorry for the two-step dance.
Hope you understand our concerns here.

Thanks
Dave

I think this works:
in config file

Code:
[Settings]
NCPUCount=4
Please let us know how this works for you.

Thanks for the help Dave. I deleted the extra copies of plug-ins, but complicated my life by accidently uninstalling OCPN 4.2. OOPS... rookies shouldn't play in the control panel! I did a complete new install and I'm up and running on 4.2 with good connections to GPS, AP and AIS. The tool icon (wrench) is working normally and the WMM plugin installed with 4.2. I still need to install the Gradar and AIS Radar Plugins and I will be back to 100%.

Dave,
I test with win7 and win8.1.
It was ok with beta 4.1.1301, 4.1.1108 and also with 4.1.1022
as i said before, the problem is with all the raster charts European 1950
Not with the .kap made with g2kap.
Thanks

Re: OpenCPN Version 4.2 Released

Hi

Back to my problem described previously with O4.2 on windows both XP and 10 (on 2 different PC hardwares):
- when I create a new route starting very close or on an existing WP, the popup asking to accept Y/N the existing WP hangs up or crashes.

I have a dual boot with UBUNTU 14.04.3 on one of the above PC (my onboard eeePC laptop)
I just installed O4.2/Linux
I did it 2 times, first as an upgrade, the 2nd time I first did an apt-get remove then deleted the.opencpn directory, and reinstalled Opencpn from scratch
And I get a very similar behaviour with this route creation as with my 2 windows platforms.
1-creating a new route from no existing WP is fully OK
2-I create for example 2 new WP, then create a route with a starting point on or very close to one WP, the popup raises to ask if I want to start from this WP, I answer Y, everything goes well .
3-then trying to creatge another route strating close to one of the WP just created before, the popup comes empty for a second and the application crashes.

=> it looks like creating a route with starting point on a WP alteady used by another route makes this error.
