Re: OpenCPN Version 4.2 Released

Hi every one,

Big thanks to the developers for the new version.
I can however mention two issues/bugs:
1-Grib plugin doesn't show averlay colored map, nor particle map. OpenGL setting does not matter. Unlike the issue posted at the begining of this thread, it is not density dependant. It works in one of my PCs (Vista), but not in the other (W10).
2-Route Properties dialog shows a wrong behaviour. When there is an active route and an active waypoint, if you use ">" to input the Departure Time the ETAs calculated in the table are from the first WP of the route, instead of from the boat position. In previous releases it worked OK: When the route was not active (i.e. planning the route at home) ETAs were calculated from the first WP, BUT when engaged in an active route and sailing to the (next) active WP, all ETA calculations were from the boat position, which was a powerful feature. I found the bug is already well described and documented in flyspray, FS#2075: FS#2075 : Lost feature or broken behavior in Route Properties dialog

Thank you again,

Antonio

Antonio...

Can you give us more information on the GRIB overlay/particle problem you observe? Attach the GRIB file, maybe. Or screenshots, too, if possible.

Thanks
Dave

Of course Dave. Your responsiveness is amazing.

You'll find attached (I hope I can manage) the screenshots showing both issues, overlay map and particle map, in both cases you can see the settings. As I told you, it depends on the PC, but not on the file nor the density. In one PC it works ok in any case; in the other, ther is no way to make it work. Anyway I attach the exemple file too, just change pdf extension to grb.

Re: OpenCPN Version 4.2 Released

Dave,

About Route Properties issue, comments in FS#2075 : Lost feature or broken behavior in Route Properties dialog could indicate that the present behaviour when entering ">" in Departure Time as "now" is intended, even if it has a kind of broken feeling, since when setting a route and WP as active it sets all pasts WPs as "left behind" BUT still includes distance to the very first WP of the route in calculations of ETAs. You can confirm is intended, and in that case, is possible to expect it to be re-evaluated in order to get back the old powerful feature for ETAs in active routes? Or is it just a bug?

Re: OpenCPN Version 4.2 Released

Guys/Girls,

Pavel posted info on how to start up with a blank blue screen 'default chart' by removing gshhs. This works for me on Win but I cannot get (find) gshhs under Android. I thiught I posted the question yesterday but apparently got lost.

Can someone pls let me know how to get a blank blue 'default chart' under Android? No continents no islands, just the planet ocean.

+ Many thanks,
barnakiel

barnakiel...

You can't....
unless...

1. you root your phone.
2. or, you create a giant .KAP file with nothing but blue on it. Covers the world.
3. or, request as a feature on the OpenCPN for Android Forum.

Dave,

Great thanks! OK. I think I can root it, but will try first up with a big blue KAP. I made KAPs before shouldn't be any problem with this. I will see how this works for me.

Thank you!

Re: OpenCPN Version 4.2 Released

Dave,
I found the reason for the particle map nor the overlay map not being shown on one of my computers: In the grib dialog box, below the "Data at cursor position" label, I had unticked the "Wind" checkbox. Once checked everything was back to normal. I thought this checkbox was only related to the values at the cursor position presented in dialog box, not to the data display on the screen. I thought that because windbarbs were presented even if Wind checkbox is unticked.
Sorry for the confusion,
Antonio
