Note that in "Port tender", if I undestand correctly, port do not mean "Port side" but "Harbour". It is a kind of boat which work in a harbour.

Re: OpenCPN Version 4.2 Released
What have I done in my life to merit the benefits of this effort? I am completely unlike the Mahatma, Mother Theresa, Professor Einstein, or others of this rank (this fact is well established). Yet somehow I am achieving bliss in this lifetime thanks to this entire effort.

Re: OpenCPN Version 4.2 Released
Hi,
I found two issues with the OpenCPN 4.2 stable release (4.0 does not have the problems):
1. The AIS target size seems to have multiplied by a factor similar to the change of sizes to display items in Windows 10.
I am using a couple of high definition tablets. Display items are sized (say 200%) under Windows 10 Settings/System/Display to make things bigger and easier to be seen. In such settings, the AIS target size displayed became multiplied, e.g. a 200 meters long vessel became 400 meters long.
2. The manual physical screen width does not work after current session closed. To re-activate the settings, Options page has to be opened and closed again after the program being loaded again.
I am manually set the screen width to 300mm on a smaller display to tweak the displayed chart details, together with Chart Zoom/Scale weighting and Reduce detail with small scale settings. It works fine once set. However, the settings does not seem to take effect with the next launch without a revisit to the options page. It needs a simple reload and close options page to effect previous settings, no entry is needed.
(The OpenCPN for Android has the exact problem).
Looking forward to seeing the behaviors restored.
Thanks,
Bruce

Bruce...
This would be a lot more instructive with pictures.
Got any screenshots? At least on (1)?
Thanks

Re: OpenCPN Version 4.2 Released
1) Screenshoot 1-3
Cosco Malaysia (Screenshoot 1) is a 334m long vessel that berth alongside a 450m long berth. The AIS target real size shown was over 600m as the size of items was set to 200% as shown in screenshoot (3).
2) Screenshoot 4-8
Screenshoot (4) program first loaded...
Screenshoot (5) change Screen Width to 300mm...
Screenshoot (6) more details can be displayed with the same scale...
Screenshoot (7) program closed and started again. Less details were shown even the Screen Width should have remained manually set to 300mm...
Screenshoot (8) More details shown again after the Options Setup Page was opened and then closed again.

Re: OpenCPN Version 4.2 Released
Hi Dave,
It is an update to the observed issue 1.
Apparently, the problem is not caused by Windows 10 display settings. It is caused by OpenCPN's own Chart Object scale factor under User Interface settings of its Options page. The Chart Object scale factor (the scrolling bar at the bottom of the page) is affecting the size of all displayed chart objects, even the real size of AIS targets.

Re: OpenCPN Version 4.2 Released
Dave,
I read the posts of BruceChun. Personally, I have just one thing that bothers me with the cursor that is used to enlarge the size of objects. It also enlarges the boat (Default model). And finally, the boat is "huge". Sometimes it hides too much, especially when you arrive in a coastal area and / or near a port and / or a channel where there are many marks (buoys, turrets, etc ..)

Gilletarom....
Hmmm...
Not sure what you mean, or what would be better.
Are you suggesting that the ownship symbol be smaller always? That is, not magnified as much as buoys, for instance?
Or maybe there should be a limit on magnification? Amplified normally, as now, except never larger than say 6 mm (actual) on the screen, for instance.
Thanks
Dave

Bruce...
I acknowledge both of your issues.
They will go on the list for the next update, unplanned as of today.
Thanks for the detailed explanation and screenshots.

Thank you for taking a few moments of your precious time following my post. Actually, I did not want to talk about it because I think it would still require the coding time.
Indeed, I find that the default ship is too big when I chose to enlarge objects such as buoys.
It seems to me that there is 3 solutions:
- Reduce the size of the boat when it is near a buoy or mark? It would take probably consume computing time. I am not in favor. There are too many important things to look for which the calculation time is a priority.
- Select a maximum size determined in advance? I remember that some had asked for a larger boat. Maybe I am the only one to complain about the current size. But the old size was too small.
- Why not a third slider for selecting the size of the boat, in the "Options / UI"? Everyone would be satisfied.
I do not know what is the easiest way to code. If you want to change something, for you to choose.
And, speaking of the boat, I remember that you had made a yellow icon. Why not also a blue or red ???. We should have the choice of the color of the "Default boat" in the "Options / UI". This would prevent "tampering" in the installation folders to put a personal icon.
B.R. Gilletarom.

Re: OpenCPN Version 4.2 Released
Gille... and more..
Why not use the Tools-Skips-Own ships-Ship Icon Type: Real scale bitmap?
And set "Minimum Screen size (mm)" to what's fit your screen resolution.
I use that, because I think the default icon is too big! Personally I use 8 mm on most of my screens. Then when zoomed in the boat's size increases to its real size as of your settings.

I still need to install the Gradar and AIS Radar Plugins and I will be back to 100%.

Update: I reloaded Plugins for Gradar and AIS Radar and everything is working well on Win 8.1. Also, used the imbedded plugin for chart loading in 4.2 and that also worked well.

Quilting and Accelerated Graphics
I did not notice this effect in 4.0 but did after using 4.2 for a few days. On my Win 7 setup raster charts will not hold the quilting setting unless I check "Use Accelerated Graphics" in the Advanced tab. IOW was this the default in earlier versions, but now must be user selected (?)
Thanks to all for the stellar work.
