Re: OpenCPN Version 4.0 Released
McAfee pops up when I hit the back button saving me from some unknown dangerous page. This is on s4 cell phone. It may be possible someone hacked the Dns. It should be checked. I had this prpblem with a website going to a porn site only for cell phones. There will be an unknpwn redirect.....definately have sogns of it here. Probably should check the rest of the setup to because they injected that into the dns somehow.

Re: OpenCPN Version 4.0 Released
hello Dave, hello Pavel, Hello Anyone,
A French user noticed that it is impossible to send multiple waypoint simultaneously from OpenCPN to a GPS (Garmin in his case, but the brand does not seem to matter).
Indeed, as soon as one selects two waypoint or more the "Send to GPS" button in the waypoint manager becomes inactive.
Who can tell me if:
- his is because no one has asked OpenCPN can do?
- This is because there is a strong technological reason why this is so?
Thank you in advance.
Gilletarom.

The same thing happens when I select more than one route. With a Garmin GPS routes are based on waypoints, so you can upload more than one waypoint by creating a route that runs through each waypoint you want to upload. All the waypoints used in the route will be added to your GPS. You can then delete the route from the GPS and the waypoints will remain. But I would also like to know if the limitation on uploading more than one object is necessary.

Re: OpenCPN Version 4.0 Released
I was so happy of the launching of the 4.0.0. but unfortunately there is too many .KAP of the Patagonians canals that I cannot display.
I would like to come back to the 3.2.2 version that I had on my Ubunutu 14.04.
How to do it ?
Thank you.

ngux...
Could you describe your problem so we can understand it, please? There is no new limitation in the number of charts displayed in 4.0
Are the charts you talk abut available somewhere?

The only thing I can think of is that you have a bunch of charts that don't state the projection. In 3.2.2 these were treated as Mercator charts but 4.0 don't load them. Have a look what the opencpn.log file says about the charts you are missing.

Would it be perhaps helpful instead of dropping the chart silently to alert the user about the missing projection or datum and asking him to confirm that this chart should be used anyhow?
The doubt I have here if this will be problem being underway when a new chart appears due to the track. But just dropping it will be a bad surprise as well...

I think that's an excellent suggestion. If it's at all possible for OpenCPN to display a chart it should do so. A bad chart is often better than no chart and it should be up to the user to decide whether--or how--to use it.

Re: OpenCPN Version 4.0 Released
The attached screen shots show ongoing weaknesses in ENCs. The problems with the Corey Causeway Bridge and the Pinellas Bayway Bridge appear to be flaws in the database, not OpenCPN problems. The Treasure Island Bridge issue is a rendering problem.
Corey Causeway Bridge--Shows vertical clearance but not name. It appears the OBJNAM is missing from the chart, as it doesn't show up with an object query, either.
Pinellas Bayway Bridge--Vertical clearance is not shown. VERCCL is not present in object query.
Treasure Island Bridge--Neither bridge name nor vertical clearance is shown. Both OBJNAM and VERCCL are available in object query. The names of the east and west bridges are long enough to present a problem displaying the name of the middle bridge, but even when I shrink the chart text down to 8 point and there is a blank space where at least some of the middle bridge name appears there is just a blank space.
For me, the most important characteristic of a bridge is vertical clearance. After that comes the type of bridge (fixed, bascule, swing, draw). Horizontal clearance is more important than the name of the bridge. If space is limited give priority to vertical clearance, followed by type, followed by horizontal clearance. If there's room it's nice to have the name of the bridge but that's the least important piece of information.
Another issue is the VERCCL is always shown in meters even if the chart units are set to feet. HORCLR follows the user selected depth units.

Re: OpenCPN Version 4.0 Released
I continue to have problems with the Linux version (Ubuntu 14.04) of OpenCPN failing to return focus. After a new SENC file is added, after opening the Route Manager, and after viewing an object query the chart window is not active. You can test this by pressing the + or - keys (the chart won't zoom) or by moving the mouse to the title bar (the close, minimize, and maximize gadgets won't appear). You have to click on the chart or the title bar to restore focus. This doesn't happen with the Windows version.

Re: OpenCPN Version 4.0 Released
If I start 4.0 as Portable, then the regularly installed 4.0 dies immediately upon activation before doing anything visible.
If the regularly installed 4.0 is started first, a Portable instance works fine in parallel.
Windows Vista (I still run 4.0 Release Candidate, but probably this did not change in between).
Looks suspicious...

Not very suspicious, it is by design - a "regular" install checks for another running opencpn.exe process and refuses to run in that case not to fight for the configuration and data files. It has no way to tell whether the other instance is running portable or not.
Whe you run portable, the check is of course not performed as the data is local.
