Re: OpenCPN Version 4.0 Released

Thanks for the idea, but it didn't work.

I ran:

Code:
root@xxxx:/# locale-gen
Generating locales (this might take a while)...
  es_UY.UTF-8... done
  es_UY.UTF-8... done
Generation complete.
and then recompiled opencpn, yet the only language option I get is English. LANG is set to es_UY.UTF-8

Bummer.

Did you install opencpn? - you really can't run it from the build directory and expect everything to work.

Yes, it was installed (make install) as root, yet it only shows English.
Maybe it's a bug in jessie, which is fairly new as Debian stable

I regularly compile opencpn from sources, never saw this before.
If you have any suggestions of data I could provide for debugging, let me know.

Thanks

Re: OpenCPN Version 4.0 Released

I'm on Jessie and see no problem. All I can suggest is you use the packages we provide, there is no need to build 4.0 from source there.

Re: OpenCPN Version 4.0 Released- Duplicate waypoints

Hello,

On Win 8.1 laptop.
I have a glitch happening over and over: sometimes OC crashes and as I reopen it I find several duplicate waypoints, they can be my anchor position or other boat position.
Sometimes I find 4 or 5 all very close to each other or even on top of each other.

Stefano,

What version are you running?

I've seen something similar on 4.0. It occurred when I was editing routes.

Re: OpenCPN Version 4.0 Released

I recall someone complaining about OpenCPN 4.0.0 re-ingesting the ENC charts every time they restart and/or pan to a new area. I've searched for the relevant posts, but cannot find them now.

I have just discovered the same behavior under certain conditions. It's not a problem when the map is panned to some areas, but when the map is panned to West River/Rhode River area (Galesville, MD area) I do see this problem every time I quit OpenCPN and re-launch. The same ENC chart files have to be scanned every time I launch OpenCPN.

One noteworthy thing about that particular area of the Chesapeake Bay is that there are a LOT of different charts overlaying the same area: 16 ENC charts and 12 RNC charts show up in the piano keys.

I have verified this behavior on both my Windows 7 desktop and my Windows 8 tablet.

The problem is annoying enough that I need to turn off the ENC chart group and work with RNC charts only. That's the only way to prevent the 1-3 minute scan time every time I launch OpenCPN.

Can you give a lat/lon reference, and tell me which chart cell(s) is being re-ingested?

Thanks

Re: OpenCPN Version 4.0 Released

RD...

Cannot reproduce this.
When you look in your logfile, you should see something like this:
Code:
20:58:30 EDT: Initializing Chart /home/dsr/Charts/ENC_ROOT/US4MD81M/US4MD81M.000
20:58:30 EDT: Building SENC file for /home/dsr/Charts/ENC_ROOT/US4MD81M/US4MD81M.000 to /home/dsr/

20:58:30 EDT: Preparing to apply ENC updates, target final update is 4.
20:58:30 EDT: S57: Applying feature updates from /home/dsr/.opencpn/SENC/US4MD81M.001.
20:58:30 EDT: S57: Applying feature updates from /home/dsr/.opencpn/SENC/US4MD81M.002.
20:58:30 EDT: S57: Applying feature updates from /home/dsr/.opencpn/SENC/US4MD81M.003.
20:58:30 EDT: S57: Applying feature updates from /home/dsr/.opencpn/SENC/US4MD81M.004.
When you close O, you should find the indicated .S57 file in the SENC directory.

Code:
~/.opencpn/SENC/US4MD81M.S57
Do you?

Thanks
Dave

Re: OpenCPN Version 4.0 Released

My logfile has the entries about "Building SENC file" for every instance when I launch OpenCPN (when it's focused on the Galesville area).

However, my logfile has nothing about "Applying feature updates..."

The files that I listed in my prior post are all in the appropriate SENC folder. However, their revision date/time changes for each time that I launch OpenCPN. It's clearly re-creating the files and overwriting them.

OK, lets have a look at the ENC_ROOT/US4MD81M directory, please.

Re: OpenCPN Version 4.0 Released

My directory snapshot is attached. The revision dates look a little funny. It looks as if I extracted an updated .zip file, but there were older files that weren't in the update that stayed behind.

I deleted the files from 2013 and re-scanned the chart database. After ingesting the first time, it does not do it any more.

My chart database synchronizes across my computer and all my microSD cards (which tablets use), so I expect that making this change will fix the problem across all devices.

Now I must ask: can you explain why these extra files caused this problem?

By the way, I'm really liking the Swedish color palette for my ENC charts! Depth soundings seem much clearer and display more vibrant.

Re: OpenCPN Version 4.0 Released

Hello everybody!

Please help!

My OpenCPN 4.0 crashes all the time, only a few seconds after starting it.

I'm using a Shipmodul Miniplex-Lite through USB/COM5 to get GPS and AIS data.

Latest Crash report info:
