sinbad7...

Look in your config file. See if there are any track related things there.

jesperwe....

Sure, we could issue log message when windows gps port needs to be closed and re-opened. Good idea.

bcn....
I am afraid that I have suspicions about the overall stability of your system. The several NGA .kap charts (124.kap, etc.) which crash for you seem to work fine for everyone else.

I would certainly check carefully your system for unauthorized drivers, trojans, etc... A good virus scan is called for, and you might consider looking at "StartupInspector", a neat app with allows you to examine all the programs and drivers which are automatically started when you boot Windows. You may be surprised.

Startup Inspector

Re: OpenCPN Version 2.6 Beta Build 1729

Dave,

these are two different systems: the one with .kap problem is an XP (the production desktop) and the system with the USB hickup is a W7 portable.

The latter one is used for other data recording stuff (no fb etc.) and is quite stable. We have experienced a lot of problems over the years with USB in the data recording environment - Jesper's idea of failing connectors/cables is what comes to my mind usually in the USB field first.

Question for me is how to monitor/log the USB ports to get an idea what is producing the failure

Re: OpenCPN Version 2.6 Beta Build 1729

Dave..

Nothing in the config file regarding any of these two tracks and it is impossible to delete them? Never had this problem in earlier version.

If you have Win7,create a short track,then try to delete it;

Hubert...

I see several promising choices if I google "windows usb port monitor".

Good Luck

Re: OpenCPN Version 2.6 Beta Build 1729

Tore...

Track create/delete works fine for me on Win7.

Your track must be somewhere, if it appears after stopping and restarting OpenCPN.

The only way that a track can NOT be deleted is if it is part of a defined layer.
So, please check again to see if there are any layers directories being loaded.

Thanks

Dave

Talking about layers, I can't find any difference if Toolbox->Etc-> Show Layers initially is on or off. Visibility seems to be totally governed by the settings in the Route Manager-> Layers Tab.

@ Tore
I think it could be relevant to have a look at your navobj.xml.X files, say
navobj.xml and navobj.xml.1-3.
Please publish your opencpn.ini file as well.

ave..

I have looked in every file and directory but find no trace of these tracks.
I will try setting up the previous version parallell to see if the same problem exists.

Dave/Thomas

I am on v. 2.6.1718 presently but the problem still persists. I can delete new routes created but not the attached. I have already checked the navobj. files and even deleted them, but I can not delete this track.

Re: OpenCPN Version 2.6 Beta Build 1729

Dave/Thomas..

Back again with v 2.6.1729. The local land route hidden by OwnShip as well as a later test route can not be deleted or their source found anywhere?
If I create a fresh route,it deletes,if I restart ocpn,I can still delete the new route just created.

Did you delete the navobj files AFTER quitting all running instances of OpenCPN? If you delete them while the program is still running, they are automatically recreated on exit and the data will still be there.

So first quit all OpenCPNs running, then delete the files and start again. If the track still exists, you have a ghost in your machine....

Re: OpenCPN Version 2.6 Beta Build 1729

Tore...

Those tracks and routes are in a layer: BRAZIL-POIS
Look at the title bar of the Track Properties dialog.

So, they cannot be deleted by normal means. You have to edit the related GPX file in your layers directory.

Re: OpenCPN Version 2.6 Beta Build 1729

Thomas...

I agree that toolbox->etc->Show Layers Initially seems not to do anything useful.

Too late to do anything about it for 3.0, but we may ask "What should it do? Is it a global layers visibility toggle?"

Thanks
