Re: OpenCPN Version 2.6 Beta Build 1705

Dave

64 bit. Had a pop up Call to "gps failed is gpsd running etc" or similar.
I just clicked OK and things works, including hotplug.

*210 OK
*216 OK
*217 How will this work for night time use? A lot of pure white popping up in the middle of the screen. Maybe a less bright bg color?
*221 Etc-> trackpoints texts are now once again displayed.
*225 OK on EeePC

Thanks a lot!

Re: OpenCPN Version 2.6 Beta Build 1705

Next Beta will be "Feature Freeze", leading to the release of OpenCPN 3.0 near June 1. If you have a Feature Request outstanding that you really, really want, and is not too disruptive, please call my attention to it.

Thanks, and have fun

Dave[/QUOTE]

PLS ADD AIS HEADING IN NEXT VERSION.
ALSO AIS SHIP SIZE IS EXPECTED
THANKS A LOT

Also a good clean up on scaling in and out.

one point though the traffic separation arrows shows in a north direction rather than 85 deg & 265 deg as per their object query (not certain if they showed correctly before though)

dutch chart ir65w83I source edition 7 update 23/3/412 available from

ftp://www.risserver.nl/ENC/zeeland/

this address gives what the dutch refer to as level 6 data, which inclues the soundings and much more detail.

have now checked on another laptop, correctly displayed in beta 2.6 16, then updated to latest beta, now show north.

Welcome to OpenCPN.

There is no need to SCREAM, we can hear you.

As for your request. Have you read the documentation at opencpn.org or the version that is included in the program?
I seems to me, that what you are asking for, is already available.

Re: OpenCPN Version 2.6 Beta Build 1705

Thomas, et al...

New behavior with NMEA source = libgps:

If you have NMEA Source set to network libgps, and you start OpenCPN without the gpsd daemon running, then you get an informational message dialog, viz:

Code:
Call to gps_open failed.
Is gpsd running?
gpsd host is:
You may start gpsd manually at any later time, and OCPN will detect the event and do the right thing. Or, on Ubuntu 12.04, gpsd is pre-configured to autostart on hotplug of a USB GPS receiver like Bu353. Again, OCPN will detect that and activate the interface.

Question: Is this "informational" dialog necessary, or is it a useless nag?

Similar question for Windows: The
Code:
"Could not open serial port
Suggestion: Try closing other applications"
A useless nag?

Re: OpenCPN Version 2.6 Beta Build 1705

Nohal....

Forgot to mention:

Windows developers building from VS2010 locally will need to copy the S57 data files into your build tree at the proper place in order to debug the application from within VS2010.
Read the code to find out where....

This is new from 2.6.1705, and does not affect end-users, only developers. It was done to simplify the release code base.

Re: OpenCPN Version 2.6 Beta Build 1705

Per useless nag for no gps ...

O
shouldn't sulk in her hammock if the gps is missing on the last-configured port. She should show a leg and get on deck with her charts and last-known fix and onlythen display a message that she can't find a gps on the last-configured port....

A tiny thought- It's possible to autostart OPCN on machine bootup and perhaps such a message would be problematic unless it was slightly delayed to give the gps time to output its messages....?

Dave...
Yep, found that very soon after I became curious why the heck am I getting crashes on something as simple as an integer assignment The question is: Shouldn't we behave close to what we do with USE_S57 disabled in case the presentation library is not found instead of crashing? Anyway, probably not that important as normal users will very hardly get into such a situation.

+2 a discussion was here: http://www.cruisersforum.com/forums/...tml#post898078 but I didn't put it up on flyspray, as I'm not sure what a "solution" would look like. I wouldn't want "uGLy".
