Re: OpenCPN Version 2.6 Beta Build 1524

Deleted 2.6.1532, dumped the ProgramData folder, reinstalled 2.6.1523.
The shift is still there between CM93 and BSB.
GE, CM93 and 7130 charts agree perfectly on 2.5.0
Only clue I can give is that OpenGL hangs on loading any chart folder (CM93 or BSB) (latest Vista), so I can't use it.

Bewildered....

Re: OpenCPN Version 2.6 Beta Build 1524

sailorF54, et al...

I think you may need to remove and re-add the SHOM chart directory to get the new DTM processing into the chart database. Or "Force Full database rebuild" in toobox->charts.

The OpenGL hangup could be due to the gecomapi_win32_pi15_v08_pi.dll. Try to remove or rename this PlugIn to see if it affects OpenGL.

OpenGL on Vista is known to be buggy, and I sure would like to figure out how to work around its problems.

Anyone else have observations on:
SHOM BSB charts...
OpenGL on Vista....
??

We need more input on these issues....

This is strange....

sailracer....

Ooops. Got my threads tangled....

On your no-start problem with 2.6.1524:

1. Could you send your config file:
C:\ProgramData\opencpn\opencpn.ini

2. Could you try to remove/rename the gecomapi_win32_pi15_v08_pi.dll PlugIn

Thanks
Dave

Re: OpenCPN Version 2.6 Beta Build 1524

Dave,

Bad surprises.

I de-installed everything. Version 2.5.0, and all intermediate versions that might still have left traces. And also 260-1524. The initialization directory was deleted.

And then I re-install 260-1524 and only 260-1524. And I load SHOM chart and CM93. And the resul is bad.

The chart is shifted. I send my gpx file to Sailor54. Sailor has tested the file.. He has the same mistake I did. He as the same mistake that I had reported to Pavel a few weeks ago.

And, this true whithout OpenGL and with OpenGL.

See screen copy by Sailor54.

I do not know why, with the first installation of 260-1524, the defect had disappeared.

Re: OpenCPN Version 2.6 Beta Build 1524

cagney....

OK, definitely shifted. I'll dig into it again.

Funny, not shifted on my current setup.

If you have the time, maybe you could use ddd and trace the code at chartimg.cpp:1270

Code:
      // Some charts improperly encode the DTM parameters.
      // Identify them as necessary, for further processing
      if(m_b_SHOM && (m_bsb_ver == _T("1.1")))
            m_b_apply_dtm = false;
I'll do the same.

Thanks
Dave

Re: OpenCPN Version 2.6 Beta Build 1524

Dave & all

The SHOM problem. First have a look at these shots of 4233_1.kap
Attachment 39191
Attachment 39190

Notice the triangles close to the bridge in the first picture and offset to the ENE in the second picture. I can, at will switch between the two!
First pic. GL on.
Now turn GL off and you get pic two.
Switch back to GL - still pic two.
Do Full database rebuild - and you are back to pick one. The Scan and update database also works.
Repeat - if you like.

So there is some fishy interaction between the GL mode and the chart database ..... or ?

This would require two opencpn.conf entries and respective items in config gui, possibly in etc tab. For example:
Code:
(in opencpn.conf)
...
UseAlternativeSoundPlayer = 1
AlternativeSoundPlayer = /usr/bin/aplay    <---- user configurable
...
Then in code, when sound is to be palyed:
Code:
if (UseAlternativeSoundPlayer) {
    std::string player = std::string(AlternativeSoundPlayer) + path_to_sound_file ;
    wxExecute(&player, wxEXEC_ASYNC, NULL, NULL);
} else {
    ... // do things the old way
}
This would give us two advantages:
  • a(nother) workaround to different sound problems
  • a possibility to play different media formats
What do you think?

Marius
There is no general Linux sound problem. All distros has switched to alsa a long time ago, as far as I know.
OpenCPN is using wxsound that is OSS based. Failing OSS it falls back on SDL. Wxsound is a very nice fit for our needs - very simple sounds.
Now Ubuntu (from 11.4) and other distros stopped supporting legacy OSS applications, and did not have sdl compiled into wxgtk. So the solution was to find wx packages that supported sdl, and aske Ubuntu to include sdl in the future. Still no answer on that request though.
I don't think that supporting external audio programs is a good alternative. What can be done, is to use wxMediaCtrl instead of wxSound. The drawback is that you use a full multimedia solution to play some simple wav files, but it may be worthwhile to look into.

sailracer....

I'm pretty sure we have some problem with the gecomapi_win32_pi15_v08_pi.dll PlugIn.

Please remove/rename and test again.

Otherwise, the .ini file looks OK.

Thanks

Re hang-up: Completely clean install of 2.6.1513 (deleted 2.5 and ProgramData init folder, cleaned registers...). No plugin except grib and dashboard. Loaded a small folder of SHOM charts. No way...It hangs the moment it tries to display a chart using OpenGL (not when the blank screen display is outside the chart area)
Draws OK without OpenGl
Tried tinkering to no avail with the Calalyst panel to modify quality vs performance of the display (Radeon HD 2600)
removing plugins: no effect

I was using Kubuntu 64 bit 11.10. But, as you asked, I transfered the chart to an XP box.
Same result. Repeatable!

Plugins makes no difference.
Quilting makes no difference.
Not using chart groups.

Re: OpenCPN Version 2.6 Beta Build 1524

Dave,

I wanted to install the plug-in NVC. I closed OpenCPN and I pasted the file plug-in. I opened OpenCPN and .... the chart display SHOM is correct this time! There is no lag.

I join my ini folder. and a screen copy.

Gilletarom.
