Re: OpenCPN Version 2.6 Beta Build 1524
All...
A. "Switching on opengl/smooth panning/zooming crashes opencpn"
I cannot reproduce this on linux or Windows Works fine for me. Anyone else?
B. Multiple cm93 groups have not yet been implemented. I acknowledge that it currently does not work as expected.
Thanks
Dave

Re: OpenCPN Version 2.6 Beta Build 1524
All seems to work wll on Windows 7, including the feet for tides with exceptions of places with 1/2 hour TZ times. S57 and CM93 all OK.

mrm, did you compile yourself?
Both the published packages are compiled with libwxgtk 2.8.12.
Try to upgrade!

Thomas, I spoke to soon about lack of time
Realised I have 32bit Ubuntu 10.10 computer down in a drawer (my nav PC actually..). Got it, charged, brought up to date with 10.10 repos and upgraded OpenCPN to current beta.
The result: no more problems reported previously and no crashes, but sound is still missing. This is a bit puzzling, as I had bells sounds working on this exact pc last year.
I checked opencpn.log, but no errors there, just a timely entry about which sound file is going to be used. And silence... (but no crash)
Checked permissions - OK
Checked streaming audio - OK
Played bellsN.wav files from the command line ($ aplay file.wav) - OK
Assigned one of bells wav files to AIS alarm and tried manually testing alarm sound - silence...

Re: OpenCPN Version 2.6 Beta Build 1524
Hello Dave,
I displayed all the charts (CM93 and SHOM BSB chart). Then I selected one group and I wanted to redisplay the CM93. It does not work. (Black screen). It should then display all the charts to the CM93 are displayed again
See join screen copy.

did you delete all chart-groups and re-created the chart-groups, after upgrading to 1524?
see Dave's first post:
136. Groups implementation had some bugs. Users will need to delete and rebuild all groups. Sorry....

Sorry Dave, I did not read your post correctly. I had not destroyed all the chart-groups before moving to version 1524.
So I repeated the experiment. I destroyed all the chart-groups and I closed OCPN 260-1524.
I launched OCPN 260-1524 and I recreated the chart-groups.
The problem disappeared.
I was able to display correctly, without OpenGL, the same area of the Netherlands:
- CM93,
- NV-Verlag chart with the plug-in NV-Verlag, using a dongle,
- S57 chart.
BUT :
With OpenGL "ON", there is a problem of refresh when I move the NV-Verlag Chart if I check "Quilting on". See join screen copy.
With OpenGL "ON", and with "Quilting OFF" there is no problem of refresh.
Best regards
Gilletarom.

Re: OpenCPN Version 2.6 Beta Build 1524
My crash was probably due to old wxgtk version - please disregard! (and thanks for hint)

Gilletarom....
Do you have the latest NVC PlugIn, available from the opencpn.org website?

Re: OpenCPN Version 2.6 Beta Build 1524
I have not been following the forum lately and just updated from 2.5 to 2.6 build 1524. After installing it and starting the program, I get the welcome screen where I need to choose "OK" that there is no warranty. Then the window goes away but the program never opens. What am I doing wrong?

The old NVC plug-in do not run with 260-1524. So I have downloaded the new NVC plug-in.
And so, I have the NVC 1.2.
As I said in my previous post, there is a problem of refresh with NV-Verlag chart using OpenGL with Quilting On.

Re: OpenCPN Version 2.6 Beta Build 1524
Hello Dave,
Other problem.
If I run OpenCPN, it work in french language. This is Ok.
If I run the logbook-Konni, then OpenCPN work in English. (But the language anounced in the tab "Language" of the Toolbox stay the "Franch language".
if I shutdown OCPN and if I run another OCPN, it run in french language. And so on ...

Since the sound configuration in various Linux distributions is subject to many variables, could we have an alternative method of playing sound in OpenCPN by calling an external program? This would require two opencpn.conf entries and respective items in config gui, possibly in etc tab. For example:
Code:
(in opencpn.conf)
...
UseAlternativeSoundPlayer = 1
AlternativeSoundPlayer = /usr/bin/aplay <---- user configurable
...
Then in code, when sound is to be palyed:
Code:
if (UseAlternativeSoundPlayer) {
std::string player = std::string(AlternativeSoundPlayer) + path_to_sound_file ;
wxExecute(&player, wxEXEC_ASYNC, NULL, NULL);
} else {
... // do things the old way
}
This would give us two advantages:
- a(nother) workaround to different sound problems
- a possibility to play different media formats
What do you think?

Re: OpenCPN Version 2.6 Beta Build 1524
Sailracer...
Thanks for the feedback.
We have been looking for a reproducible error like yours for a while. You caught one
Could you post or attach your log file and config file?
Thanks
Dave
