Has anyone tested OpenGL with a nvidia card + the nouveau driver?
Linux only!

For the Portable (-p) under Windows Vista and XP (Win7 don't know):

- Export All from the Route Manager hangs, regardless of the target file location
- the individual route/waypoint export works fine

Re: OpenCPN Version 2.6 Beta Build 1125

PORTABLE on XP works very well!!..so why would I ever "install" OpenCPN again,if I had the dlls in with O ?Installing has pretty much just been extracting anyways hasn't it?apart from the MS vcredist package..(which I wasn't happy to snare in my firewall when it phoned home,by the way)
PS:I happily note that if I have a chart of my own in a Charts folder Port-O will start with it even with a changed usb drive letter ...I did edit the ini file once, deleting the drive letter so O would look in her skirts first but maybe didn't have to...

PiotrC...

Cannot reproduce hang on export all.

Does this happen only with (-p) option?
Maybe there is some problem with one particular track or route in your navobj setup, but this seems unlikely....

Any others with this problem?

Thanks
Dave

I am using Windows 7 and OpenCpn 2.5.0 and export only one route at a time. It does not seems to work correctly with export all. Was ths corrected in v. 2.6.1125 I don't know.

Re: OpenCPN Version 2.6 Beta Build 1125

Thomas....

Regarding excessive OpenGL memory usage:

Try to add the following to your config file:

GPUMemorySize=nnn

where nnn is graphics card memory size, in MBytes.
256 MBytes is the default.

This is just a hint to OCPN, to help her manage textures more efficiently.

On my linux system, 256MB card, "top" memory varies, depending on the type of chart, activity, etc. Never seems to get out of control....

Thanks
Dave

Re: OpenCPN Version 2.6 Beta Build 1125

Thomas....

More on excess memory usage....

I did find a code path that would lead to high resource use in OpenGL. This would happen most often with lots of charts opened, lots of panning and zooming, etc., as you might expect. MEMCacheLimit in the config file was not being honored for some texture buffering on raster charts.

I continue to think about memory use. Some would say OCPN "wastes" memory, by being a resource hog. Others would say that memory on the motherboard consuming power but not being used for data right now is being "wasted". Different viewpoints.

My goal is to try to use all the memory I can find legitimately, if it will improve OCPN performance. Hence the config file parameter MEMCacheLimit.

Dave

I'm testing the memory settings, and will come back later on that subject.

Back to my #85 and
"re/incorrect chart quilt patches..."
Some progress...I think.

I recreated the scenario. The Chart above is from Peru, but all the charts in the chart bar is from the USVI and BVI. Check the thumbnail.
This whole thing started when zoomed in on St John and then panning eastward with the arrow buttons. All of a sudden Peru popped up ???

It gets interesting when comparing with the log.

The chart removed from the chache 13 is the same chart as in the picture above. Something goes wrong in OpenGL & quilting mode when clearing the cache.

I am amending myself, I have succeeded to export the routes as a common file for all. It works. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Yes, it was just an overload with tracks in hidden layers - after 6 minutes the export of a single route was completed indeed... thanks for your patience.

The change of GPUMemorySize value had no effect.
Glad you found the reason for "high resource use".

This was exactly what I did.
I agree with your view on memory usage. In this case it was more of an indication of something going wrong. Quick rise of memory usage(compared to non GL mode) to 60% +, a load average over 2.0, the box becoming generally unresponsive and needing about 25 s to close down OpenCPN.
Thanks!

43. Improve AnchorWatch functionality (FS#634) Thanks pjotrc
Is seems a bit redundant that both Enter & Ctrl + M both drops a new mark.
What about using Ctrl + M as a dedicated anchor mark??
