Looking but can't find a way to do it

Last one I have is a .pdf for ver 2.2.1026!

TIA, Terry
The manual is already installed on your computer. it is a part of the 2.5 package. Click the "About OpenCPN" button, blue with a "?". Click the "Help" tab an your default browser will open a html page with the whole Wiki manual on one big page with internal links, where possible.

It is possible to get a snapshot of the wiki, in the same format, at any time through tis link OpenCPN User Manual also available on the Opencpn.org download page.

Dan..

None of the clickable functions in the AIS Target List are working.
Clicking any of the headings should show a value and reverse the
sequence when clicked. No bearing or range are shown.
Unless they are only shown from an active ship?
If that is the case, there should be an option to also have the values displayed from the 'Move Boat here' icon.

I tried setting up a route and activating it,but the bearing and range still does not show.

Tore....

AIS target list range and bearing are only relevant if ownship position is known. Without active GPS on ownship, those columns will be blank.

A great bit of software - thank you very much! But someone might want to run the text through a spell checker - "buoy" is spelled "bouy" in a couple of places...

Dave.. re your #63

I understand, but I still feel it would be better if the range and bearing followed the ship wherever it happens to be,at anchor, under way,no GPS.

Otherwise it is very confusing to receive a large amount of AIS data with no relevance to the position of the boat.

In this way you could also check traffic in other parts of the world simply by 'Move the boat here' and setting a range.

Re: OpenCPN Version 2.5 Release

The only way it makes sense to process AIS data without GPS lock would be if a "dead reckoning" mode was added to OpenCPN.

Re: OpenCPN Version 2.5 Release

For Tore and Viking Sailor.

Give this some more thought. The only way you can know what AIS targets are around you is if you have live data concerning those targets at your known location, hence the need for AIS and GPS hardware, right?

Having used AIS for the past six years, including Singapore Straits with over 500 targets, I'd recommend it to anyone venturing out into shipping lanes and the high seas.

Re: OpenCPN Version 2.5 Release

Terry,

Dave has rightly implemented OpenCPN so that if there is a loss of GPS position data the AIS info is considered to be invalid. Lets call this OpenCPN's GPS mode.

I believe Tore is thinking of displaying internet streaming of AIS data collected at various ports around the world. However, in order to display the calculated AIS data the boat's position needs to be known. It is likely that Dave could change the code to display only "raw" AIS data when the boat's position is not know.

Another way would be to add a DR mode to OpenCPN which would provide boat position, course, and speed in place of GPS position info. That way when my three GPS receivers die I will still be able to select OpenCPN's DR mode and continue sailing with a valid AIS display. The DR mode would also allow Tore to display streaming AIS data.

Bottom line, start OpenCPN like this:
Code:
$padsp opencpn
and you will get an OSS wrapper that make all sounds related features work.

No 3 F6 works fine for me.Close down and rename opencpn.config. On start a new will be created. Try F6 again.

Thomas
This wrapper for OSS seems to create other problems.
When setting an anchor alarm, the sound comes on OK but the program locks, and don't respond at all.
I'm unable to attach ddd to a process started with:$padsp opencpn
Excerpt from output of padsp with debug switch
Code:
utils/padsp.c: Draining.
utils/padsp.c: freeing fd info (fd=19)
utils/padsp.c: Draining.
utils/padsp.c: stream established.
utils/padsp.c: Really draining.
Note that normal starting of opencpn does not create his problem, but then there is no anchor alarm sounding.
I can't enter his into the Tracker as it's still not up.

Thomas

PS. The AIS alarm works as expected.

I don't agree that it's right to invalidate AIS data when the GPS signal is lost. It's better to have data based on your last fix than no data at all. OpenCPN should work like any other navigator: use the best fix available. If there is a good GPS fix, use that. If the GPS signal is lost use the last fix, course, speed, and time from last fix to calculate a DR position. Treat "Move boat here" as a new fix. Allow the user to correct course and speed as necessary to keep DR accurate.

Re: OpenCPN Version 2.5 Release

I've got OpenCPN 2.5.0 running under Windows 7 64bit and so far everything seems to be working fine. I've got my dashboard docked to the right hand side of the window and I want to permanently dock the AIS target list to the bottom. When I dock it then close and reopen OpenCPN, the AIS target list disappears. Is there someway to make it dock permanently (ie. as a default setting)?

Route Manager ... cumbersome

When I import a route with Route Manager it also places each route waypoint in the Waypoints tab.

If I delete the route, the waypoints stay in the Route Manager and also on the screen.

Deleting the waypoints must be done individually, no opportunity to select more than one for deletion (as in Windows Explorer, etc.). I don't want to use 'Delete all' since I have waypoints I want to keep displayed elsewhere.

Very cumbersome. Am I missing something?

Re: Route Manager ... cumbersome

For clarification, this happens with routes that have not been created within OpenCPN. For the example shown this route was a MaxSea route converted to .gpx by GPSUtility.

Re: OpenCPN Version 2.5 Release

SORRY! Just realized I can convert the routes without the waypoints. But the inability to delete more than one waypoint at a time is still a bit cumbersome.
