Re: OpenCPN Version 2.4 Beta Build 628

1. tinyxml and tinyxml-devel exists in official Fedora repo.

2. If you look at /usr/include/tinyxml.h you can notice that tinystr.h is only required if you disable the TINYXML_USE_STL option (that means you don't want to use std::string I don't think we need that) But in opencpn/include/tinyxml.h, it's not defined, see below for official packages.

- Package naming:
* Fedora
library = tinyxml (2.6.1)
devel = tinyxml-devel
* openSUSE
library = libtinyxml0 (2.6.1)
devel = tinyxml-devel
* Ubuntu
library = libtinyxml (2.5.3)
devel = libtinyxml-dev

- Devel status
In Fedora: tinyxml-devel 2.6.1 TINYXML_USE_STL is defined by default. No tinystr.h
In Ubuntu: libtinyxml 2.5.3 TINYXML_USE_STL is defined as well. No tinystr.h
In openSUSE: libtinyxml 2.6.1 TINYXML_USE_STL is defined as well. /usr/include/tinystr.h is included

Thomas...

The i386 .deb on the org site downloads page does not work on 8.04 LTS

I guess I should have been looking at this more often....

Code:
dsr@dsr:~$ sudo dpkg -i ~/Desktop/Downloads/op*.deb
(Reading database ... 146836 files and directories currently installed.)
Preparing to replace opencpn 2.3.0 (using .../opencpn_2.4.628-1_i386.deb) ...
Unpacking replacement opencpn ...
Setting up opencpn (2.4.628) ...
dsr@dsr:~$ opencpn
opencpn: /usr/lib/libwx_gtk2u_adv-2.8.so.0: version `WXU_2.8.11' not found (required by opencpn)
opencpn: /lib/tls/i686/cmov/libc.so.6: version `GLIBC_2.11' not found (required by opencpn)
dsr@dsr:~$

Re: OpenCPN Version 2.4 Beta Build 628

Hi guys and gals...

I have pushed new code to git.
Lets call it 2.4.630.

This is mainly to allow Hamish to proceed with the debian packaging work, and for others to scrub the build system with the most modern CMake files.

There are minimal mainline code changes. So lets not call this a real Beta, and not go through the official Beta release process for this one.

Interested users/packagers may play away...

I'll be offline for a couple of days. Downeast Maine is notoriously poor in Wifi hotspots, but the summer scenery is great!

Thanks, and good luck
Dave

Re: OpenCPN Version 2.4 Beta Build 628

Disappearing route - part 17

Underway now using 628. Activated the route and -- WTF? - it disappeared. The dialog box with leg/route was still there but the route was just gone. So thinks I, I will get him the .ini & .log files that he wanted anyway. Oops - they don't exist on my computer. Several global searches of varying flavours later I am relatively confident that they just aren't there. I'll do a clean reinstall this evening when we are sitting still but right now there are large nasty boulders sticking up from the bottom of the ocean that I think deserve my undivided attention.

Bob

They do exist, but are hidden files.
On W7 go to Organize->Folder and Search Options->View->Advanced Settings and mark "Show hidden files folders and drives". Also un-tick "Hide extensions for known file types".
After that you will probably find them in the C:\ProgramData\opencpn folder.

Re: OpenCPN Version 2.4 Beta Build 628

Oops - rookie move - thank you Thomas. Sure enough, they were there - well actually not "there" since I'm running XP on that computer but I found them. I had some issues with attaching them - not sure if that was due to the flaky wifi here at the marina-at-the-end-of-the-universe or if its a feature of this BBS. Either way, they're attached but the names have been changed to protect the innocent.

The exit at 10:18:26 today (30/6/11) was a "toggleable" point under 620. Once I ran 628 toggleable became a moot point because the route simply disappeared whenever I activated it. Some of the subsequent exits would have been with an active but invisible route.

Some observed behaviour that may or may not be useful:
- activate a route (which immediately disappears)
- hover the cursor over the invisible route and right click
- the context menu appears but so does the entire route, briefly
- the route appears and then a large portion of it immediately disappears again
- when you deactivate the route it appears again

I've got some screen shots of the partially appearing and disappearing routes with the context menu if that would be useful but that will likely have to wait for better access than what we have here at the Restaurant at the End of the Universe.

Enjoy. I am.

they aren't expected to work.

those .deb packages should probably be named like: opencpn_2.4.628-1_i386.lucid.deb or something, trying to install them on anything other than the platform they were built on is a crap shoot, which gets worse the further you get away in time from the build-OS's version, and old packages are more likely to be forward compatible, than new packages being backwards compatible.

I suppose Ubuntu 8.04 ships wx2.6 not 2.8? or have you installed wx2.8 by hand..?

Dave, try running the cmake deb output target to roll your own, specific to your version of the OS.

Dan..

Unable to install v. 628 for Vista.
I have downloaded the installation file three times and while I am in the process
of installation I get error messages like 'Can't open file' etc.

Never had this problem before with any version.

Bob o'theNorth... is it "tweaking time" yet?
Maybe reduce the ownship predictor line's time-I see you have 30 minutes look ahead...it might have an effect on the disappearing route(on my boat it'd be sweeping back and forth and maybe affect the graphics etc...).
Also,I wonder if you could give O more ram memory and see if that helps...? but it might be more tinkering than you'd want to do...you can save a copy of the file you venture to edit somewhere else and then just put the copy back when you're done tweaking...

With all due respect the point of beta testing is not to develop workarounds. It is rather to identify undocumented features in order that the code geeks can fix them. That's all I profess to be doing because I am quite incapable of fixing the problems I am identifying. And this is not a case of the predictor line "wiping out" the displayed route.

I think the point was to try the experimental approach and tweak things to help identify and isolate the problem. If a work around can be found, a real fix for it can be begun as we have a good idea where to start looking for the bug instead of just shooting in the dark.

Re: OpenCPN Version 2.4 Beta Build 628

Bobofthenorth....

Thanks for the uploads. Instructive reading...

Questions:
1. Are you saying that ANY route disappears when activated under 628? Or does it depend on the viewport/scale?
Or only when a BSB4 chart is onscreen?

2. What happens if you (temporarily) unplug the GPS?

3. And, Seagull's idea is good. Does it depend at all on the Predictor length?

Thanks
Dave

p.s. I'm in Lubec, Maine. The other End of the Universe....

Sinbad7/Tore....

Can you be more specific about the error messages?
There are no other reports of failure to load on WIndows....

Thanks
Dave

Re: OpenCPN Version 2.4 Beta Build 628

I don't think the length of the predictor line is relevant but the behaviour is somehow related to tracking. If tracking is ON then any route at any scale disappears when activated. Tracking OFF and the route behaves as it is supposed to.
