How about a way to alter the boat dimention (lenght and beam)!
Would this be included into the 2.5 version?
Regards.

This problem is absolutely NOT route dependent - it will happen on any route but if you want a route I'll upload one. At one point I thought the occurence might be linked to the zoom level relative to the boat speed - ie. if you were zoomed to 1 hour's travel time it would occur and it wouldn't occur at lower zooms but that isn't true. It is more likely to occur at higher zoom levels. Typically I am zoomed to about a 1 hour travel when it is most prevalent but I have seen it at lower zooms as well. I'm absolutely not a code geek so I probably can't be a whole lot of help unless somebody tells me what troubleshooting steps would be useful. The problem appears to occur more often on some charts than others but I have seen it on all charts between Victoria and Desolation Sound and I think I have seen it on the NOAA charts between Sidney & Anacortes but I can't say that for 100% certain.

Re: OpenCPN Version 2.4 Beta Build 620

Thanks a lot for this latest issue of Opencpn. BTW has anyone tried installing Opencpn on a 7" laptop powered by a MIPS processor? I was recently given one of those very small laptops that run under LINUX 2.6.24.3 which seems to be a Debian distribution.

Bob of the North.....

Something very odd going on here.

I notice that your ownship predictor does not look right. It is supposed to be a dashed line, 3 pixels wide. See attachments, yours and mine.

Any other Windows users showing a solid thin line for ownship predictor?

May be related????

Dave

Could this have anything to do with BSB4 charts, that I believe Bob is using?

Re: OpenCPN Version 2.4 Beta Build 620

Thomas...

Must be related to BSB4, since only Bob has reported this problem.
I cannot (yet) reproduce with my BSB4 charts. Working....

Does your Windows build show a correct ownship predictor?

So it seems (Vista, from playing the PacCupStart AIS test data with the VDR pluging)
Here is a sample

Re: OpenCPN Version 2.4 Beta Build 620

Thomas/Sailor....

Thanks for the info.
We clearly have a configuration management disparity between myself and Gunther's build systems. I will work with Gunther to correct.

Meanwhile, I cannot see how this could affect Bobofthenorth.
Still working that one.

Bob, if you are online, what is the name and date of your bsb4_pi.dll file, please?
Found in {Program Files}/OpenCPN/plugins....
should be something like "bsb4_win32_pi15_v10_pi.dll"

Thanks
Dave

V10.

I think that predictor line has been solid as long as I've been running OCPN BICBW.

Thanks for what you guys do

Re: OpenCPN Version 2.4 Beta Build 620

bob of the north....

Still working on lost route syndrome.

More pix, scenario descriptions, random observations may be useful. Send them in....

Some questions:
1. Can you produce this problem with the ship not underway, either with or without GPS connected?

2. The pix you have sent all show the ownship at the very bottom of the screen. Is this significant in your mind?

2a. Does the problem happen with chart dragging, or arrow key operation, or both?

3. In your pix, I see no blinking destination waypoint. You might have just missed it with the camera...Did you?

4. Finally, I would sure like to eliminate BSB4 as a variable, if possible. Any chance of NOAA chart failures, or cm93/ENC failures?

I'm stumped, can't reproduce it....yet....

Thanks
Dave

Re: OpenCPN Version 2.4 Beta Build 620

I'll leave the nav computer running for a while to see if the behaviour appears while we are stationary. I'm guessing it won't but I've never watched for it either.

I don't think the ownship/bottom of screen is relevant but I will specifically watch for that when we move in the next couple of days.

I've got a touchpad on that computer & don't typically drag the screen so I can't answer that question but I will test that as well. Typically the "toggle" behaviour shows up when I notice that all or part of the route has disappeared, touch an arrow key and see the route reappear. In that circumstance often (but not always) immediately touching the reciprocal arrow will make the route disappear again.

The blinking approaching waypoint is often missing when the route is broken but that is not always the case. I can provide screen shots showing the destination waypoint as part of a broken route if you want to see them.

I'd like to help you eliminate BSB4 as well but I'm stumped as to how to do that. I don't have CM93 charts & right now we're well out of the range of detailed NOAA charts. When we get back into familiar waters around Sidney in a couple of weeks I can run on NOAA charts. They won't be real detailed but I don't need them to be either. I assume at that point I should unload the BSB4 pligin completely?

Something vaguely related....perhaps.
I have seen route legs disappear on earlier occasions but nt managed to catch it.

The disappearing leg is clearly west of the dateline!
Here is the gpx file.
dis.gpx.doc
I can repeat this when deleting the original and importing the above file.

Re: OpenCPN Version 2.4 Beta Build 620

Thomas....

Your disappearing route is date-line related. Surprised?

Fixed for next Beta. Unlikely to be related to Bob's problem.

Yes, thank you.
