Re: OpenCPN Version 2.4 Beta Build 612

Xport in between overcame the O-abuse above ...no gpswhiteboxfreeze,no CPU blitz.

Why not? Any example (area)?
Is the reverse direction of the arrows consistent? Because if so, why not just make them pointing to the opposite direction? What would be wrong with this way?

BTW: Attached a screenshot from CMap program
...
There is nothing "wrong" with sailorF54's graphics, it is a very common way to show a recommended track. I prefer the other solution, as this just tells the navigator to expect vessels in the vicinity of the track, without any assumptions where a ship will be in relation to the recommended track, going one way or the other.
Has anyone found any other area, except for the Baltic Entrance that marks a recommended two way route this way? Australia, New Caledonia, Fiji and Sweden are examples of areas using the graphics I showed in my last post.

Of-course a recommended track isn't mandatory, just recommended by someone... The reality in the Northern entrance to The Sound, which we are using as a start for this discussion, is that hardly anyone ever uses the recommended tracks. If indeed they are still "recommended"? The majority of the north/south bound vessels are following one of the eastern routes, not the "recommended" western route.
By the way, these routes are all a legacy from post WW2 mine-swept routes. The exception is the T-route, the transit route for deep draft vessels between Skagen and Gedser, from the North Sea To the Baltic.

Gunther....your Cmap shows just a dashed line for the recommended route, not a clear way to mark such a route...

Re: OpenCPN Version 2.4 Beta Build 612

I do have a slight problem with my GPS (HI-204III USB)
(Direct link without Xport). Hot unplugging, waiting for the red ball (I have to move the chart slightly for the boat/bull's eye to become gray again) plugging again (ckecking that Prolific assigns the same COM port).
The GPS data windows remains blank and the GPS won't connect. I have to switch to another port, press OK, then back to the previous port before the data windows comes alive again and for the GPS to connect.

Re: OpenCPN Version 2.4 Beta Build 612

Ok..so with XPORT in play, per last quickpost, shut down O,unplug gps, reboot windows, and as xporters know,Xport autostarts when its output has been set...Now restarted O(Interesting that it didn't give a gps unavailable warning ...?),and the gps indicator is white-box,blank,denada.
Poke it,click it,..shouldn't it come up redball?

Ok,plug in gps,(seconds pass)xport is happy(3dfix)and yes! Now,so is O.Green bars.

Re: OpenCPN Version 2.4 Beta Build 612

I'll stop with the XPORT stuff...Sorry if it's an irrelevant layer ...ok,so make "no gps" in config so I can exit disable Xport,(meanwhile, the whitebox is back).Shutdown Xport....still whitebox..tap F5(don't ask why,it's a reflexF5being widose refresh..) and the redball is back.
If there's an audience for this turgid prose,my sincerest apology.Much ado about (nearly)nothing to paraphrase a writer

...Oh,I see-the gps indicator moves itself depending on the toolbar location.I moved the toolbar to the left and the gpsindic- box is now upper right...I guess when I overlaid new beta,my toolbar was shifted a bit-that explains new-to-me lower left location....that IS a good feature on a rectangular screen to get more vertical real-estate...I

Windows: typically, the UserIcons folder must be in

C:\ProgramData\opencpn\UserIcons

since a few beta releases...

Re: OpenCPN Version 2.4 Beta Build 612

It would be a good thing if all the marks on buoys and beacons that just shows a square with a "?" in could be corrected before a stable release.
A few examples from the Florida Keys

Re: OpenCPN Version 2.4 Beta Build 612

Happy and sailorF54

OK, I see the problem with Windows USB hotplugging failure.

Seems like a clean fixup. Won't need another Beta before RC.

Thanks
