IMHO all used strings should be translatable even though there might be no real translation.

But then it is the translators choice. A poll on the German website (Sollen (englischsprachige) Abkürzungen in OpenCPN übersetzt (eingedeutscht) werden? | OpenCPN.de) is just about 50:50 (by 28 votes) if such abbreviations should be translated or not.

So I am still thinking about offering an alternative language file with these abbreviations translated for users whom prefer this.

Hi Dave.
I will not translate items like IMO: or MMSI:. I just want to change the spaces to realign the fields to the other fields translated in Italian in the AIS Target Query window.

About the AIS Target List, there is the column reporting the Speed identified with the string "S." that I'd like to translate in "V." i.e. Velocità in Italian...

Dave, it was my stupid fault. The column width was to narrow so SoG was shown as S.

Now also the AIS target query looks fine...
