great!

Would you please be so kind and post this to the tracker -> project 'Celestial Navigation - plugin', Task Type 'Patch', too?

See: OpenCPN::Tracker Celestial Navigation - plugin: Tasklist

Thanks,

22 beta crashes on waypoint entry

More detail please. What system? What keystrokes/mouse clicks exactly are you using that cause this problem? What does the (deleted) .ini file entry look like?

Thanks

Here's a snapshot of the ini file when it gets corrupted.
[Marks]
[Marks/MarkDefn1]
RoutePoint=33.358002,-79.281998
RoutePointName=A
RoutePointDescription=
RoutePointIcon=triangle
RoutePointGUID=333580-792819-1280458121-0
RoutePointProp=A,0,1,0,1
RoutePointNameLocationOffset=-10,8
[Marks/MarkDefn2]
RoutePoint=33.358002,-79.281998
RoutePointName=B
RoutePointDescription=
RoutePointIcon=triangle
RoutePointGUID=333580-792819-1280458127-1
RoutePointProp=A,0,1,0,1
RoutePointNameLocationOffset=-10,8

It crashes every time when I enter waypoints on windows 7. It seems to work fine on Windows XP. I tried Win XP compat mode on the program in W7, but still have the same results. I've tried on 3 different Win7 computers with both 32bit and 64bit. I have to open the ini file and remove the [Marks] section before I can open the waypoint manager without crashing OpenCapn. I went into waypoint manager and just made 2 waypoints, calling them A and B. I've tried with both proper points and using bogus 0.0 points with the same result. Even if I just click "new" on the waypoint menu after creating a first point it will crash until I remove the entire "Marks" section of the ini file.
Thanks,

AbacoBahamaMan

Thanks for the info.

I cannot reproduce this fault on virtual Win7 hosted by Ubuntu.
I can open RouteManageDialog, go to Waypoints tab, and add/delete marks at will.

Have you tried RightClick(on chart)->Drop Mark Here ?? Does this crash?

Anyone else seeing trouble with Marks on Win7?

Thanks
Dave

Some bugs under Vista

I've just spent 3 weeks out and about using opencpn and have some bug reports. I use a PC with Vista, a Brookhouse mux feeding into COM6. Overall a terrific update, love the new look and features.

I've had a few "spectacular" crashes - occasionally it reboots Windows automatically - thought this was impossible

Also, when it crashes and does not reboot, I can't run Seaclear without a reboot. Here's a sample:

---------------------------------------------------------------------
Leaves a "dead boat" onscreen when restarted, see thumbnail below (this was on a 27nM spinnaker run the other day under glorious conditions in the Straits of Juan de Fuca).
---------------------------------------------------------------------

Consistent bug: I use COM6 for NMEA in and out (to the autopilot). Each time I start opencpn I have to change this to "none", press "OK" and then reselect COM6 and press "OK" to get data at the autopilot. This worked in 1.3.6.

Also, when I select to navigate to a track my AP "meanders", sometimes significantly, to starboard before gradually settling on the track. It did this in 1.3.6 as well. It does it even in a "go to this point" or when I'm dead on the track.

Thanks to all for the hard work, love the product and enjoy seeing it evolve.

Cheers
Paddy

Dave, thank you for the reply, sorry I didn't get back sooner as I had to haul out today and spent all day transforming the round barnacle blob back into a prop and removing a transmission.

Anyway, I will try your suggestion in a minute and will get back to you. I am unable to crash it on windows XP on a home desktop, however my laptops on the boat will not run XP as the hardware in it was built for W7 and sadly there are no XP drivers of any kind for the laptops I own. They are running between 4gb and 8gb of ram with an intel dual core 2.66 ghz and 500gb hdd space, which seems to run OpenCPN very well (until it crashes).

Is there anyone else out here running Windows 7 on a 64bit machine who can duplicate my crashes on the beta 2.2 716 build? Please Take a look back at post #35 in this same thread, someone else reports a crash when they click the "route manager" icon with windows 7. Is this possibly a similar problem?

I would like to get this resolved as I am planning a trip in about 2 weeks and would like to have this system stable enough to use along side my plotter.
Thanks for any help

Ahhh, it is 64 bits. A whole new kettle of Mahi...

I don't have a 64 bit win7 system handy for testing. Anyone else with this setup?

Dave, drop mark here works fine, I dropped about a dozen points on and off the memory onto the bahama bank with no problems. When i go into the waypoint list with the route manager, they are there and look valid, but when I click "new" to make a new waypoint the program crashes. If I launch again and try to get back in, it will not let me back into the waypoint/route manager without a deletion of the [Marks] section from the ini file. It crashes every time until I remove the entire [Marks] section.
Very odd. Yes, it's 64bit so who knows at this point unless we can produce some other users with 64bit OS.
Thanks again.

I am going to try and load 32bit windows 7 on a spare SSD tomorrow and will update you if i can crash it or if it works tomorrow.

Multiple Editions of Charts

I have multiple editions of some BSB charts (.kap file), and the current behavior of OpenCPN is very confusing. If an older version of the same chart exist, the expected behavior is not to see that chart when you zoom out (ID is same but source edition differ). The newest source edition should be selected, possibly with an option to see the old one (but not when you zoom out). There seem to be some general problems with BSB which prevent my usage of OpenCPN. ENC maps seem to work great though, and the software looks very promising. Perhaps one could add a feature which shows the information stored in the internal database? I think correct display of charts and positions is the most important function for a chart viewer.

stensmo....

Welcome aboard!

I agree that correct chart selection and georeferencing are the sine qua non for an ECS.

Do you see problems with BSB charts with exactly the same file name but in different directories? Or are the chart files named differently?

Some example file names and structure would help me debug this.

By design, opencpn should select only the latest chart of a particular ID, and ignore all older versions.

Thanks
Dave

BSB maps

I placed charts in the same directory. The different charts have different file names, different name, but same ID. Source Edition is different. Of course, scale is the same, since it is the same chart. Is the internal DB looking at the name? Not ID? What is your current strategy for handling multiple version of the same chart?

Beta Releases

Hi to DAve and all of the Development Team.

The last windows release of 2.2 - 716 was sometime back and I note from the various threads that there has been some ongoing beta releases for Linux.

Could you please advise when the next release for Windows will be avaailable and what we can expect in the way of improvements and / or additional facilities in the program.

I am not a programmer and have no knowledge or apptitude for writing code but like the majority of people who use OpenCPN and actively follow the discussions and threads I am very interested and keen to see further improvements and facilities incorporated into the program.

It would be very helpful for everyone - both developers and users alike if the team could start a new thread for the Deveopment Schedule / Timetable which both identifies and prioritises the new functions to be added and the development areas currently being worked on linked to a proposed release schedule for all of the operating systems ie on a weekly - fortnighly or monthly basis.

OK thats all for now and may I add my congratulations and thanks for all of the effort and hard work put into the making of this program by everyone involved.

I have found the same problem on my ASUS eeePC Win7 Starter 64bit.
Reverted back to stable version to navigate, sorry.
I'll come back at the end of August.

This is a problem I also have. But I don't think this come from openCPN. What I have noticed is that the meandering start when you start to use track on the autopilot, if there are more way points in the route this meandering will not occur later on in the route.
What I think: When you start the track the autopilot start to steer with information from the compass and when information from XTE is coming that will be used. And there is probably a difference between this informations.
