1. Default mode for skewed charts is "natural", or skewed-up.
2. new Toolbox->Settings tick box for "Show skewed charts as North-Up"
3. Arrow button is always red for course-up, blue otherwise. Always points north. This is a change from current behavior.

Comments: I like skewed charts to show as drafted. Easier to read, and they render a lot faster, and look better with default low definition rotation code.

We could enable hi definition rotation of skewed charts to north-up if the box (2 above) is ticked. Would be slower, but OK if not default. User choice....

Comments?
Dave
My suggestion is a wording change only. Instead of "natural" maybe "as drawn", or something else?

I like North up always, but could see wanting to closely examine a chart in it's "natural" orientation.

OK, maybe "natural" is best, afterall...

Hello Beta Testers!

OpenCPN Version 2.2.918 Beta is available for download.

Changelog:

50. Correct logic error in GPX waypoint import which required restart of ocpn to show points in RouteManagerDialog. (FS#72)
51. Implement multi file selection capability for GPX file import. (FSFeature #48)
52. Correct AIS decoder to allow AIS Version -3 for Message type 5. (FSStable #64)
53. Implement (some) AIS Region 200 (Euro Inland) binary AIS messages.
54. Correct route leg parameters on Route Reverse in RouteManagerDialog (FS#76)
55. Correct GPX Route/Track Import to properly reflect ETE or Timestamp as appropriate. (FS#71)
56. Correct CourseUp/Lookahead mode ownship drawing position. (FS#74)
57. Correct bug in Route leg rollover processing (FS#69)
58. Improve Route creation and RouteManagerDialog logic when using existing waypoints.
59. Correct some German spelling errors in tide harmonic files. (FS#85)
60. Correct S52 symbolization rules (display priority) for SLCONS. (FS#84)
61. Add capability for user defined loadable ownship icon.
62. Implement ownship position tracking via AIVDO messages
63. Improve Route leg mouse rollover detection logic. (FS#68)
64. Updated Graphics for toolbar, etc. Thanks to Will and Sethdart....
65. Correct PlugIn Toolbar logic to allow adjacent PlugIn tools. (FS#89)
66. Implement Dusk/Night colors for PlugIn Toolbar Tools (FS#90)
67. Improve BSB quilting algorithms
68. Correct AIS target ETA math.
69. Improve AIS target list. Select on specifictarget now opens target info dialog. Thanks to Flavius Bindea
70. Improve GRIB PlugIn file selection logic and date/time display. Thanks to Flavius Bindea (again).
71. Correct fault on delete of active AnchorWatchPoint. (FS#97)
72. Improve AIS target symbology by using anti-aliasing renderer.
73. Implement AIS Target Acknowledge Timout function. (FSFeature #104)
74. Implement AIS Base Station decode and sybolization.
75. Correct Current arrow rendering direction for Course-up mode. (FSStable #105)
76. Correct error on RouteProperties Close by Window Frame "X" (FS#45)
77. Change LookAhead logic to avoid chart centerpoint jumping while at anchor or during slow maneuvering.
78. Correct crash panning from the only available raster chart to cm93 chart while quilted. (FS#107)

Notes:

50. Significant refactor of GPX I/O code. Need extensive testing with lots of foreign GPS imports, if you please.
59. We could use a volunteer to edit the entire harmonic.idx and harmonic files with a good Unicode
editor to fix up some broken place names. Please see FlySpray #106
61. By request. Simply put a file "ownship.xpm" in the Usericons shared data directory. This becomes your ownship icon.
67. Minor change in BSB quilting logic. May be a performance hit, probably acceptable.
Provides better chart rendering on mouse pans and zooms.
68. The problem here was the arrival ETA when it was crossing month boundary.
73. By request, good idea. Could use some suggestions regarding wording of Toolbox->AIS option legend.
Interesting note: Today I transited New York Harbor. At one time there were 127 live AIS targets, virtually all with a CPA of
less than 2.0 NM. Lively screen display, to say the least. Happy to have the Acknowledge Timeout function.
Also, the US Coast Guard was enforcing 175 yard security keepout zone around the United Nations building.
Nice application for the radar range ring display.

Happy testing, and good luck
Dave

OpenCPN does not include charts. You gotta get your own.

See this page on the OpenCPN.org page for chart sources:

--> Chart sources | Official OpenCPN Homepage

There are many, many free charts.

Hi
Nice to se the latest improvements such as AIS base stations. Of course we are all asking for more, but I think that met station reports give even more importent information. In our waters, Sweden is sending info this way about wind and current.Click image for larger version

This is how it is presented in SeaClear. I tried to attach some AIS sentences, but the file was to big. Unfortunately I am not able to pinpoint the relevant message.

918 won't start on Windows XP

I installed 918 on my VIA PC running Windows XP.
Installation went fine.

Starting the appl. gives me troubles.
Very soon after doubleclicking the icon, XP tells me (I have a Dutch version of XP so the next translation could be a bit off):
"The application can't be started because the applications configuration is wrong. A renewed installation might solve this problem".

I tried to install several times, with and without uninstalling 2.10 first, checking and unchecking the radiobutton of resetting. No luck.

Anyone here who recognizes this?
Any thoughts?

Thanks for your time,
Len.

I tested on an XP and can confirm. Tried first with keeping the old config files etc, and then with creating new files. Same result, nothing happens, no messages even.
I think the problem is that no ini files etc, are installed.
%APPDATA%\opencpn only contains the newly written log, nothing else.
Netsurfer, can you check the installer?

Thomas,

I installed 918 on another windows PC. It's a Acer netbook running Windows 7 starter edition. Installation went ok.

After starting OpenCPN, W7 shows the message "OpenCPN stopped working".
Could be it's the same thing which causes the XP-problem.
Difference here is that this W7 message comes in after say 10 seconds and I see the OpenCPN window built up, where XP comes in directly after starting and no OpenCPN screen can be seen.

When my memory serves me correctly I had the XP-problem also with Beta 823. Should have reported that.

Cheers,
Len

Installed 918 on top of 823 with new init files selected and added CM-93 charts on a XP system. None of the above problems noted. Added Danish BSB charts again no problems.

No GPS available right now to check DashBoard plugin with.

Only thing noted was the font size for the info bar was a little bit big.
