Small hiccup in 1004...

Hello All....

re: Changelog 98. "Move Windows local data and config file storage from User data dir to System data dir."

We have reverted the above change.
It will become necessary with the new Windows installer due soon now, but causes some difficulties in the meantime.

The current git code is reverted. Affect Windows source builders only.

Sorry for the hiccup.
Dave

Compiling alright now. I have just uploaded some Linux packages, this time including an rpm, compiled on an Eeepc with Ubuntu NBR. It will be interesting to see how that pans out. Will it work on Fedora 13 ??

It's an impressing list of fixes that will keep me busy for a while.
Thank you for all the great work!

Thomas

Started on checking strings and ran into a road-block....
Grundarfjör(d)ur on Iceland, did not show a tidal curve. I changed that.
Recompiled, and got crashes whenever clicking on the tidal or current buttons. I thought I messed up something, with my changes for a 64 bit package, so I did a fresh git download to a new directory, but the problem is still there. Very strange, the tidal button worked OK on my first compile today. I checked all tidal stations on tha Faroes and Iceland! By the way, some strange positions for certain tidal-stations on Iceland.

As you have conveniently added a backtrace and memory map to the out/error stream when starting from the command line, it's all in the attached file.

Thomas....

Maybe some problem with the harmonic cache file:

~/.opencpn/station_mru.dat

Try deleting this file. It will then fetch new station parameters as needed. It probably will work OK for the first run, than fail on later runs. If this is so, it is a clear clue.

Thomas....

Do the git cloned harmonic files both come down as UTF-8?

I deleted ~/.opencpn/station_mru.dat. The problem disappeared!
OK even after restart!
Both Harmonic files are judged by kate to be utf-8.
Of-course there are still the non utf-8 chars i Harmonic comments.

Thomas...

OK, the problem must be that the cache file created by an earlier version causes a crash with the UTF-8 to Unicode conversion now present in the tide/current module.

I'll try to prototype this somehow. Do you have the old file in trash can?

Anyone else on linux who crashes on tides and currents, please send me a copy of the offending file (station_mru.dat) before deleting, if you can remember.

Thanks
Dave

The story continues. Restarted OpenCPN again, and now the problem is back again. Deleted ~/.opencpn/station_mru.dat (saved it!). After restart, all is back to normal. 3 more restarts, still OK! - go figure!!!

Hmmm. No problem with this file on my system.

If you move this file back into place in ~/.opencpn, do you crash repeatably?

Version 2.2 Build 1004 no Problems on OpenSuse 64Bit.

But

This is from the Doc
Compiling the Source in Linux

3. Build it.

We'll build everything in a subdirectory to keep the codebase clean (easier to catch changes).
cd opencpn # unless already in this directory.
mkdir build
cd build
cmake ../
make

make will not work you have to do an cd .. before or make ../

Also it's fine that tcdata now knows ü and ä and ö, don't know how
this is called in english.
In before 1004 I had to edit this with ae or ue,
for Places like Brunsbüttel or Büsum in Germany.

Thank's a lot

That means you did not run cmake inside the subdir as described in the wiki.
The cmake cache data, built objects and makefiles are stored in the directory where you run cmake for the first time (there's probably an option to tell it to store it elsewhere)
If you've run cmake in the base dir (opencpn/) cmake will find ther's already cache file there and keep this working directory even if you are in a subdirectory after and run cmake again. You'll need to clean cmake cache if you want to change your build directory.

This is the right compile process for a clean copy:
Code:
[user@host ~/]$ cd opencpn
[user@host ~/opencpn/]$ mkdir build
[user@host ~/opencpn/]$ cd build
[user@host ~/opencpn/build/]$ cmake ../
[user@host ~/opencpn/build/]$ make
To rebuild:
Code:
[user@host ~/]$ cd opencpn/build/
[user@host ~/opencpn/build/]$ make
To catch changes:
Code:
[user@host ~/]$ cd opencpn
[user@host ~/opencpn/]$ git pull
[user@host ~/opencpn/]$ cd build
[user@host ~/opencpn/build/]$ make
You can build everywhere you want provided you tell cmake where it can find the base config file (CMakeLists.txt)

Hi Thomas,

Sorry for late reply, I tested your rpm: install goes fine but it doesn't run. Here's the error message:
Code:
Fatal Error: Mismatch between the program and library build versions detected.
The library used 2.8 (no debug,Unicode,compiler with C++ ABI 1002,wx containers,compatible with 2.4,compatible with 2.6),
and your program used 2.8 (no debug,Unicode,compiler with C++ ABI 1002,wx containers,compatible with 2.6).
I had already encoutered this error wile trying to install in Ubuntu a .deb package built on Fedora. wxWidgets is not built with same compatibility options between Fedora & Ubuntu. I guess we'll have to ship each .deb & .rpm built separately from appropriate env. I can provide a .rpm built here if you want (Fedora 13 or Fedora 14 beta)
