it depends.

Sometimes, if there is no installer available yet, I build from source.
For the testing I always uninstall the previous version and install the new one by using the installer.

So as there was no installer for 611a I must have build it from CVS. That might be the reason why I the problem did not occur.

One two three four ... boats on the screen ...

Hello, Bonjour,

I have installed 611b (completetly new install, OK ?)

With each kind of chat that I try, there is the same bug. it is possible to make appear several boats on the screen.

1 - With no quilting. OK
2 - Make quilting ON
3 - Use "Desable this chart of the quilting"
4 - Place the boat here
5 - And now "Left click" ... and a new boat appear on the screen
6 - And so on ....

See attach screen-shots.

Best regards

AFIK I make no changes to quilting logic between 611a and 611b.

Which release are you using that works well?

Can you describe a repeatable scenario where it jumps from quilt to no-quilt? I have the Chicago BSB charts...

Thanks
Dave
Dave, here's what I found. (sorry in advance for the length...)

Working in XP Pro, SP3, only with setup installs of OCPN, I don't compile myself and so never tested 611a. I've been working on 527a_setup at home and the next version (can't remember the number but it's the _setup version immediately before 611b) at work. both of those did not exhibit the problematic behavior.

now, after 2 hours of testing, it appears that problems only occur on a clean install of 611b_setup. (i usually completely uninstall and delete .ini etc. manually if necessary before installing a new version.)

wierdly, when I install 611b setup over a working installation of 527a all is good. If I uninstall OCPN first, and then install 611b clean, that's when problems start.

on first startup of clean 611b, of course, it says no charts installed and opens the toolbox. I click Enable Quilting, go to the charts tab and select a folder of RNC/BSB charts which covers 14901 (Lake Michigan) and all other charts going up the west side of the lake from Chicago to Escanaba Michigan.

Force full database rebuild.

i center on Sturgeon Bay WI (the city & canal, not the actual bay), use change scale arrows, then zoom and within 3-4 clicks i'm seeing black around a single chart, and the toolbox no longer has Enable Chart Quilting checked.

testing further, i check quilting, zoom in and then out. this time it took 6 clicks till black surrounded active charts. quilting was still on but the 500000:1 and 240000:1 charts were not in the quilt. If i clicked on these in bottom bar, they came back.

next test, zoomed back to a close up of sturgeon bay but the scale didn't change so i was actually overzoomed on the big chart. red outlines of the little charts still showed but they weren't in the active quilt. Clicked on the leftmost bottom bar, little chart came back but quilting turned off.

When I use just the zoom + - buttons, quilting works pretty much like it used to execpt chart 14901 the 500000:1 chart isn't used in the quilt. 14901 is described as mercator, whereas all the others in the active path are polyconic.

using the change scale buttons or clicking on a chart bar at the bottom throws it out of quilting. with 527a that didn't happen.

so, i installed 527a over 611b and get much the same behavior.

uninstall completely. reinstall 527a and all is good. install 611b over 527a and all is good.

one unrelated thing. early versions used to have the default vessel position somewhere in the Carolinas. 527a puts it in the middle of the biggest chart. that's great!!! but 611b defaults back to the Carolinas. a real pain trying to find your lat/lon and installed charts on an all black screen.

Hope this helps, sorry for the long post, but wanted to give as much detail as I can.

Bug: Can't delete routes which use existing marks (usinbg the Routemanager)

To reproduce (tested with 611b):

  1. drop two marks
  2. create a route using the two marks ("use waypoint nearby")
  3. use route manager to delete route, route disappears from screen
  4. close opencpn
  5. start opencpn
  6. the route is back
I can delete routes successfully by right-clicking on them and "delete". But I have a lot of left over 1-point routes, after deleting some marks/waypoints. These routes are not visible on the screen but do clutter up the Route-Manager

LeaseOnLife's crash.

I can repeat it, but with the difference that after pt 4 a route is created to own ship from one of the remaining wpts. When deleting this in route manager the crash comes.

Anchor watch bug.
I'm writing a bit about the anchor watch feature over the .org site. While the visual alarm works well, I can't get the audio alarm working. As both these comes from the AIS alarm, I had expected both to work in the anchor alarm.
The AIS alarms works without a problem.
Anyone else having the same problem?

BluegillBoy....

Here's the deal:

We cannot quilt Polyconic charts. Theoretically, no-one can. They are not conformal, nor equal area. They are technically obsolete.

They are, however, widely used by NOAA for Great Lakes charts. Sigh....

I fiddled around with trying to quilt large scale polyconics, with unsatisfactory results. Of course they look nice on the screen, but goereferencing is inadequate for navigation. Hundreds of meters of error on reasonable charts.

What to do?
1. Is any other ECS successfully quilting polyconics without re-projection?
If so, we could use some hints.
2. Place a "cone-like" icon on the chart bar to indicate polyconic projection, just so the user knows what is going on.

Any other ideas, any cartographers lurking out there?

We cannot quilt Polyconic charts. Theoretically, no-one can. They are not conformal, nor equal area. They are technically obsolete.

They are, however, widely used by NOAA for Great Lakes charts. Sigh....

I fiddled around with trying to quilt large scale polyconics, with unsatisfactory results. Of course they look nice on the screen, but goereferencing is inadequate for navigation. Hundreds of meters of error on reasonable charts.

Dave
Dave - several different things look to be at work here...

1) The cone on the bar for a polyconic is a good warning. Since some people might not want polyconics included in the quilt, at least not automatically, my suggestion would be to include a sub-menubox that is available when "Enable Chart Quilting" is checked, "Check to include polyconic projections"... with whatever warning language would be appropriate. But 527a is actually quilting polyconics together beautifully.

2) Why does 611b act differently if it's installed clean (after a complete uninstall) than it does when installed over 527a without and uninstall done first? When the 611b_setup is run without doing an uninstall of 527a, 611b runs fine for me and quilts all of Lake Michigan beautifully. When it's installed after an uninstall, it won't quilt in 14901.

3) 611b (clean install) was telling me 14901 was the Mercator projection, and all the other charts were polyconics. The polyconics quilted fine, it was the one Mercator that was getting thrown out of the quilt, but you say the polyconic shouldn't quilt. So I'm confused.

4) 611b also reports the chart type differently depending on how 611b was installed. When I use 527a (and 611b installed over 527a so that it quilts 14901 in) it IDs them all as Mercator. Per above, a clean install of 611b ID 14901 as Mercator and the rest as polyconics. BTW, I opened these charts in a text editor and the header confirms 14901 is Mercator and the rest are polyconics.

My impression here is that it will quilt Mercs together with Mercs, and polyconics together with polyconics, but won't mix the two. Is that correct? So I go back to the suggestion under point 1) above - let the operator decide whether to mix the two.

PS - just solved part 2 above with a little extra testing - 611b installed over 527a uses the database/chart grouping that 527a created and quilts Mercs and polyconics together (I'm betting because 527a considers polyconics to be Mercs) UNTIL a database refresh is forced, at which point it correctly IDs the polyconics vs. Mercators. And then still quilts the polyconics together beautifully, but won't include the Mercator chart (14901) in the quilt.

So where does this lead your thinking?

With quilting on, there is a problème of "rafraichissement de l'écran".

This translates itself can be by "Refreshing of the screen" ? Scuse me sir, my english is too poor !

1- make "Quilting on"
2 - use "Remove this chart from quilt"
3 - Left click and concurrently make slip the card (Slip deposit )

Hello Thomas, AFAIK the anchor alarm is not completely implemented - there is no alarm as of yet. Pjotr built this prototype and hasn't been around much since sadly. As there is (probably?) a RC feature freeze on 2.1.0 this will remain an easter egg without sound until further notice..

Dave & idpnd

I feel real bad about this - cagney, the Easter Egg destroyer!

First I wrote about the feature, Anchor Watch | Official OpenCPN Homepage.
Then I went ahead and played a digital Sherlock Holmes and managed to implement the sound for the anchor watch alarm. It was a question of finding and coping the the right thing to the right place, a task so advanced, Dave could have done it sleepwalking, but not that easy for me as I don't speak wx-ees.
This patch seems to have very limited impact, I hope....
It behaves as expected.

Thomas
