I agree. But in this case I went so far that I even deleted the whole CVS directory and started with a clean slate. So what created the new CMakeCache.txt file with it's strange content this time? Why wasn't libgps found?

Dave,

The culprit should be in your mailbox shortly. Sorry for not sending it right away.

Scripts.......Sorry all my bad! I hadn't used this script for a while and still used the cmake gpsd off setting for compiling with gpsd 2.3, hence the weird cache file.

I'm actually still enjoying this "feature".
Did you include a fix in 604?

Thomas....

Well, I thought so. Try this: run xgps, and unplug the gps cable physically.

What does xgps do?

What does opencpn do when gps cable is unplugged (using libgps, of course)?

Thanks
Dave

test 604 windows

Hi Dave

Many thanks for this new beta and all the new features .

I have very often crashes with my small XP notebooks when exiting opencpn (not only with 604 , but also with previous version)
It happens when clinking twice on X . Not a quick double click , but one click then another one second later (I have time , it takes several seconds to exit )
It- seams it doesn't happen when exiting by ctrl/Q .
It rarely happens on my duo core vista machine . May be it's related to less power and a big tracks file to save ?
I haven't vc++ on that machine so I can't try in debug mode but here you are the XP crash report and the log file resulting from the crash.
Best regards

Dave

Tested as you suggested.
xgps displays a dialog "gpsd has stopped sending data" with a button saying "cancel". Pressing this button kills the xgps process.

opencpn continues as if nothing had happened, with variable COG & SOG for a while at least. For the moment COG is locked at 163 and SOG at 0.23. Own boat is red and gps indicator green.

test 604 windos

Hi Dave

A small point :
When a route is active and you do some actions as open route properties dialog on it or open wp properties dialog on an included wp or insert a wp ... an after this action is finished , although the route is active , it stays blue instead of red (see shot attached)
If you right click on it , it become red again .
Regards

Will you send me a copy of your large navobj.xml file for testing the fault on exit?

Thanks

GPSD troubles

Thomas....

gpsd is troubling.....
I find that the daemon/lib combo is inconsistent regarding plugging and unplugging the GPS device. Sometimes it works fine. opencpn will detect no GPS updates after a few seconds, and do the right thing. Other times, the libgps continues to report valid data long after the device is unplugged.

So I look at xgps. Python, easy to read. Seems that xgps detects unplug events by monitoring the gpsd daemon directly, and not using the libgps. However, the whole point of the effort to get to libgps was so that applications did not need to talk to the gpsd daemon directly. Sigh....

I've scoured the web looking for sample code to the newest libgps API. Nothing found, except simple demos that work fine for bench testing. Nothing production quality....

If there is anyone listening who knows how to work the libgps interface consistently, I have some simple questions....

Here is one:
from the gps.h include file:

part of the data returned from a gps_poll() call:

Code:
    /* GPS status -- always valid */
    int status; /* Do we have a fix? */

#define STATUS_NO_FIX    0    /* no */
#define STATUS_FIX    1    /* yes, without DGPS */
#define STATUS_DGPS_FIX    2    /* yes, with DGPS */
Seems clear enough.
However, this value returns 1(i.e. good fix) long after the GPS device is unplugged. What's up with that?

Meanwhile, Thomas, I dunno. Anyone else working with libgps today and have any luck with plugging and unplugging the device?

Frustrated
Dave

GPSD

Dave
This is a real PITA. I was a bit surprised seeing the behavior of the new xps version. For my reaction to the old version, read this.
Seems like the xgps developers had a problem!

I think the best way forward is to contact the developers of gpsd through the proper mailing list witch seems to be gpsd-users list.
It could also be worthwhile checking their list archives.

Hi,
Thanks to the all the crew for this great work, you're amazing!

I would like to contribute somehow so I decided to translate the 604 to italian, I hope this can help.

Where can I upload the file?

BTW I was unable to find the "Go To Here" string in the po file...

Thanks again,
Alberto Da Pra

P.S.: Where is the Anchor Alarm feature, I can't find it!

GPSD

Dave

I installed and tested gpsdrive, which also uses gpsd. I don't know if it was a coincident, but on pulling the usb plug, exactly the same dialog as in xgps popped up.
It could be worthwhile checking their code.
If I recall correctly "Hamish" is involved in gpsdrive, he might have some ideas!

Grazie Alberto, attach file to this thread, you have to rename file to .doc to upload.

The Goto string is new and the file has probably not been updated to reflect this feature as of yet

Its only semi-implemented, I think the acoustic alarm doesn't work yet.. You can play with it by right clicking near boat, then anchor alarm, this is essentially the same as a mark, you then rename this mark to the number of metres radius you want (e.g. 100).
