Dave..

As Hamish suggested,I downloaded his NZ charts which were converted ONLY using tif2bsb and none of the other conversion progs. None of the charts are working in the original v. 2.1.0 and he concludes that the error must be created in the tif2bsb module.

For this part, I really don't know. Do you have the .po files from CVS? Where are they located? During one test here, cmake deleted these files because there was a missing dependency in my config but I've not had this problem since.
Can you tell me more about that please. Do you have xgettext, msgfmt and msgmerge utils (provided by gettext). Maybe I should disable this part for Win32?
Normally .mo files should be built from .po files but at the moment both are included in CVS. I guess gettext tools are not included on all platforms? Dave?
I can change the code to use embeded .mo files if gettext utils are not found, or build them when required if possible.
I'm using the complete cvs checkout and all the files are where they should... Tracked it down to
Code:
ADD_DEPENDENCIES(i18n ${PACKAGE_PO_FILES})
After commenting out this line it passes without problem - still don't understand cmake enough to tell whether I broke something, but all po-update, pot-update, i18n and general build targets pass and build what they are supposed to

Also discovered that the 0.14.4 gettext from GnuWin32 is too ancient and doesn't support --package-name etc. xgettext options used in pot-update
Solved this one with http://ftp.gnome.org/pub/gnome/binar...tools-0.17.zip and http://ftp.gnome.org/pub/gnome/binar...ntime-0.17.zip

Of course the proper way is to build the .mo files on target system and get rid of them from the CVS. Some better reporting on the tools found/not found as part of the configuration process would be very useful.

Now having my fresh new opencpn.exe and no more excuses, I just have to get back to my highschool C++ times

Dave..

Hamish suggested perhaps the tif2bsb utility could be faulty. My present tif2bsb is from 04 Oct 2009 and is 1.07 MB.

My earliest conversions started around 10 Oct 2009,also from NZ.
It does not explain why my PRESENT conversions works perfectly with the 2.1.0 ver.
I have made no changes in my conversion procedure.

A mystery indeed.

I found a possible source for converted chart problems.
In the "old" (1.3.6) days when OpenCPN treated all charts as Mercator charts, I often was a bit sloppy with the PP value in the tif2bsb header file , as it did not matter. For example, using the charts projection latitude as PP value or setting it to "UNKNOWN" or just "PP=", all these options now leads to errors, possible strange ones..... Dave - Correct me if I'm wrong!
Now of course PP must reflect the projection longitude, if not published, the best value is probably the mid longitude of the chart.

Sinbad
I don't know any other way of converting a chart picture to a kap file, using freely available tools, than using tif2bsb. The different methods just use different ways of producing the georeferencing, and other parameter values , in the necessary template/header file. So in the end it is a question of the quality of this file.

I would be very interested in a sample header file and tif image , that would point to a possible problem with tif2bsb.

Thomas..

Go to my message 155 to download the Mercatorworld.kap file which did not load in ver. 2-1-0. If you use NOTEPAD on the file you can copy the header.
I can't seem to find the original bitmap but I found it on Internet doing a google.

See also Hamish theory in message 212.

Using the same method as in earlier conversions, all my new charts also work in v. 2.1.0
so I am really puzzled. I am running Vista.

btw Did you use cmake to create VS2008 project? Or did you hand craft it?

Thanks again
Dave

I plan on updating the Windows Beta download tomorrow, subject to bug reports....
Dave,

You are welcome.

Rebuilt OpenCPN and did limited CM93 testing. Looks good so far. Will advise if I find anything bad. Wish I had more time to spend on OpenCPN.

Did not use cmake to generate the project file.

Best regards,

Paul

Hey Sinbad,
how can an obviously flawed file ( see this post , and there are more things to question in this particular file...) be used as an argument against libbsb??

If this file is an example of "Using the same method as in earlier conversions", then that is not much of an argument either.

So, how do we handle the mixed-projection case? Ideas?
Just a thought...
Why not use a combination of quilt and not quilted.
Use Tmerc quilted and show the Mercator charts on the chart selection bar.
This would show there are Mercator charts showing the same area while having the possibility to quilt the Tmercs.

Maybe some indicator is needed to point out to the user he/she is in quilt-mode or not since the most obvious right know is the existence or lack of the chart selection bar.

Dave,

thanks for getting a windows build out, for us low-lifes without a real operating system....

AIS works again. Alarms for moored, anchored, very slow targets seem suppressed by users choice, good!

I am not user of a course up mode, but have played with it. At anchor, in a marina, or at very slow speed, how is the Course Up mode supposed to work? COG from the GPS is all over the place. Should it be using the heading information from the compass, if available? Until a certain SOG threshold is reached and one could say COG is stable?

An indication where N is has been discussed before, I think.

Good progress, thanks!

Yes, its working fine.

Thanks for the inclusions of some of my sugestions

When installing it prompts to use current configeration files, but NO chioce of a clean install.

I havent tried all the features like Course Up as that can be done when I know where we are

GRIBS work (weather is cold and wind on the nose, thanks)

All nice and stable using basic functions

Use Tmerc quilted and show the Mercator charts on the chart selection bar.
Permit me to bore you with my interface idea again: Use of chart selection buttons for chart types to quilt.

I don't even think there's a lot of value in mixing the types with each other at all, as the result of a cmap-raster mix just looks very odd - quilting by type would seem preferable.
