Today I came across some charts, probably from the same crowd you "handled" the other day that specializes in 3 REF/ headers.
Trying to load these charts I had crashes. In the end I came to the conclusion that the strange chart names was the reason. A chart that has a name with a combination of letters like "å","ä" or "ö" and mix in a "~" and some spaces in the middle of the name, will sometimes(not always) cause a crash. After renaming the lot to something reasonable they loaded OK. On the other hand, if I take say NZ23.kap (North Island) and rename it "å i åa ä~e ö.kap" it will definitely crash.

Hi , Dave

Is there a possibility to improve tide (And may be current ) display ?
The problem is that the curve don't use all the space available .
It would be fine that the Y scale starts at the unit immediately below the lowest point of the curve , and stops at the unit immediately above the highest point .
It's generally OK for the top , but not for the start point and the curve is very small compared to the window surface

Many thanks
Jean Pierre

1.3.6 RC1226

Hello all testers...

Here is opencpn Version 1.3.6 Release Candidate (RC) 1226.

Please download from here (new link)

http://www.southbaynetwork.com/openc...n136rc1226.msi

Changelog:

77, Correct config file load of ownship position.
78. Modify linux Makefile to create LC_MESSAGES dirs as necessary
79. Update GRIB data boxes on cursor navigation of GRIB tree in dialog.
80. Improve Language dialog by allowing only those locales generally available on system
81. Correct Large GRIB window calculations.
82. Improve short distance panning of some RNCs which use Mercator georef estimator.
83. Change symbolization of UWTROC which is always dry
84. Correct Euro GRIB wind arrow display.
85 Convert Windows installer to .MSI format.
86. Improve scaling of Tide and Current graphs.
----Release 1.3.6 RC1226----

Notes:

This is a Release Candidate. What this means is that small changes for isolated problems which have workarounds will NOT be corrected in this version before release. Large killer problems affecting multiple users with no reasonable workaround will of course be fixed as necessary.

A side note, familiar to those with commercial software development experience: We have reached the point in this project where regression testing takes more time than code fixing. So, at this point, we should start to avoid gratuitous changes in the code base, and scrub carefully every interface modification, no matter how innocuous it looks. Sigh... Its a sign of getting large, I guess.

85. Potentially a big deal. We have converted to Microsoft MSI installer format. Reasons:
a. Eventually, we get the full benefit of MS version management, updates, rollbacks, etc.
b. Eventually, we can get "User Privilege" Vista install capabilities.

At this point, though, all we get is a larger download image, and still a need to install with Administrator Privilege in Vista.
This MSI installer is a work in process, and I hope to expose any obvious install problems with this RC. Comments welcome.

Note: Do not un-install your existing opencpn 1.3.5 or earlier installation. If you do so, you will lose your config files, SENCs, etc.
Simply install the new MSI as normal. In this transition, you may end up with some orphan shortcuts on the desktop and start menu. Delete as found.

Plan: I want to make an official 1.3.6 Release on 30 December (next Wednesday). Fingers crossed....

Good Luck
Dave

I upgraded from your link to 1226 but the downloaded file is the old 1222??

Still no wind barbs and speed shown from the European grib files.

Sinbad7...

Did you download and execute opencpn136rc1226.msi? This is different from the previous Beta link.....

PeteCross: Are you on Vista? Did the .MSI load OK for you? Any troubles?

Hi Dave

Had to delete the old binary before the new image would install.

MSI Install

ChuckSK...

Did the MSI installer give any message that indicated no-install state, or other info?

Thanks
Dave

No. The installer appeared to do a normal install. The binary however was not updated.

Vista 136rc1226 install....

Folks....

Caught by Vista UAC again....

To install opencpn136rc1226.msi, you will need to manually delete any existing opencpn.exe in the install destination directory.

(probably c:\Program Files\OpenCPN\opencpn.exe)

I recommend that you DO NOT "uninstall" the old version of opencpn. This will wipe out your config files and other stuff like SENC files, chart database, etc.....

This problem will be fixed for the next Beta.

Feedback on this from XP/Vista/Win7 users will be appreciated. This MSI structure is new, and there may be other install bugs....

Sorry
Dave
