I'm not a great fan of overzooming......

When changing charts from a large scale chart to a smaller scale chart, OpenCPN keeps the same scale-level, not the same zoom-level. The result is that the smaller scale chart gets over-zoomed. Is it possible to instead keep the same zoom-level when changing charts??

It would be great with a "Reload Charts" button in the chart selection tab. As it is now you have to change the chart directory selection to reload even one single directory, that for example, has a new chart.

This looks like an unrelated problem to me.
I think you had wx 2.6 before??
Have you downloaded the wx 2.8 dev package, necessary for compilation??
Do you have any errors running ./configure?
Do you run "make clean" between compilations?
Another possibility is unicode problems. Try
./configure --enable-unicode
Sorry if I ask about obvious things!!

I Agree with Cagney (for BBS maps)
In 134 when scale was decreasing , zoom was increasing accordingly but without exceeding x2 .I suggest to go back to this behaviour in 135
When scale goes up , I already suggested that zoom decrease accordingly but not under x1

Actually, I WANT it to be the same zoom. I like changing the scale of the chart and having the exact same area showing on the screen. It gives keeps me oriented. So, then I just scroll-wheel zoom out so I can see the chart. But while zooming out, my brain is adjusting to what I'm looking at.

I hate to say this, but I think we need another click-box in Tools. Auto-zoom when changing charts?

As far as that goes, I wish the zoom-out was not restricted as well. When changing to a larger scale chart, I'd rather it didn't zoom in automatically, for the same reasons as above.

In other words, I'd rather totally control the zoom myself.

Interestingly, the ENCs have the same behavior, but you can zoom so much farther out on those (I wonder why?), that I never really get bothered by the auto-zoom-in.

I think I'll double post this in the feature thread.

Nothings obvious, thanks for your help.. I just want bleeding edge opencpn

The packages are fine, all 2.8.. During configure, I only get one error:

Quote:
configure: WARNING: Disabling some GTK display optimizations
configure: WARNING: You may want to consider installing libgtk2.0-dev
I assume that's due to the suggested hack. I tried make clean as well, to no avail sadly.

Could you upload your karmic .deb to sourceforge?

First, did you install libgtk2.0-dev?
I have no ready .deb package, but as our systems are quite similar, you may be able to run my executive opencpn. It's a 2.7 mb tgz file. Pm me your email address and I'll send it to you.

Strange things happens to the wind arrows in a downloaded grib from zyGrib when I zoom in. Some of them point wherever thy want to, it seems. For CM93 things happen when I go from B to C scale.
Check the attached pictures. The first in CM93 B scale is normal, but in the next in C scale all of a sudden there is one arrow showing NNE-ly wind on the chart but unchanged direction when the cursor is held over the location.
The third picture is an over-zoom of a raster chart from the same area. Where have the trade wind gone? ?

This fix is confirmed. Thanks

I will now starting testing OpenCPN in actual navigation. I am especially interested in the Autopilot behavior.

Internationalisation / Localisation

Hi ecume29,
For me, source code of OpenCPN has to be modified.
I tested a solution upon a Vista32 platform but it is not ready for now because :
1) I would like to know if it's a "good" solution
2) It has to be tested on other platforms with different configurations.
Hoping Dave will have some time, after the new release is up, to answer PM I sent to him about this.
Remark : the file to be used by opencpn would be a .mo that you can obtain from po-edit when saving your config catalog file. The .po file is only the source permitting creation of the .mo file used to make the translation effective.

ipnd - FWIW, I'm having the same compile issue here on Fedora 10. opencpn source is updated from CVS as of today, gcc is 4.3.2, wx is 2.8.10. As you say, a bit of a mystery.

Unicode nits....

idpnd....

A couple of unicode bugs slipped in.

I have corrected them in CVS without issuing a new Beta.

If you will check-out from cvs
vtg.cpp
gll.cpp

Then your build should work.

Ref # 31 & 32 Non display of .kap charts close to Greenwich meridian.

Converted another .kap chart covering the Thames estuary but unfortunately, the same error occurs. No display of map at all. Hope this will be fixed shortly...

The chart displays perfectly in Shipplotter so I know it's calibrated correctly.
