That's actually the same error message I've been getting, the make process tries to cp those files to non-existing directories..

Black Screen Redux

SpringBok....

On linux. OK.

please try this:

at command prompt:
$rm ~/.opencpn/opencpn.conf

This will delete your config file, and opencpn should start with normal screen.

Thanks

Does that chart position jitter in Latitude, Longitude, or both?

Thanks

Dave,
After further observation the horizontal (longitudinal) oscillation only occurs with certain application frame widths. Adusting this a few times will bring on the problem or visa-versa.
Hope this helps.

X-mas crash!

I get an instant crash most times I try to display a grib file. It happens the instant I click the individual gribfile.
On the odd occasion they display alright, but I can't pinpoint a pattern when this happens. Using single processor.

GRIB fault...

Cagney, idpnd....

Yep, found that one too on linux only, so far. Simple uninitialized variable.

Fixed in CVS. Please checkout grib.cpp from CVS now and rebuild.

Thanks

2 small items.

On ENCs, the preview doesn't show up even though the chart was already built. After clicking on it, the preview shows. But it only seems to keep the preview of the last 2 ENCs viewed, which coincidentally is the limit of how many it seems to keep in memory.

During chart builds, the tool bar icons are grayed out, except for the grib icon.

Good performance on chart list builds:

This is no problem, but just some stats for your entertainment and so you know how it performs on a particular setup.

Win7 64bit-AMD quad - 6gig - 22GB of charts - affinity changed to all 4 CPUs
Armchair only - no GPS, AIS or grib files.

Directory structure:

C:\charts

Subdirectories for various locations and types. Includes:
BSB_ROOT - US raster
ENC_ROOT - US vector
cm93 - Uh - that'd be cm93s
terraserver - over 1000 custom raster photos
newzealand - the rasters from Marco
SENC - the .ini has been modified so OCPN puts the S57s here
And 15 others - various countries ENC charts, and a few of raster charts
Chart Build Performance:
Build specifying just C:\charts\cm93 - less than 1 second.
Build specifying C:\charts

BSB -------- 2 minutes -- 5 seconds
ENC -------- 1 minute -- 38 seconds
S57 -------- 0 minutes - 38 seconds
cm93 ------------------- <1 second
Total time - 4 minutes - 21 seconds
Specifying each directory individually and letting it do an update in btween each seems to add up to about the total time, so it all appears to work as desired.

Interestingly enough, when I deleted all the individual directories and then added the root directory, the resulting update was less than 5 seconds. Forcing an entire rebuild was the expected 4+ minutes.

WMM 2010-2015

Dave,
I noticed that SeaClear has a MagErr field displayed and thought this came from NMEA info.
I couldn't find this apart from Magnetic Variation which never corresponded to SeaClear's value. Looking att SeaClear's revision history, I saw that it uses WMM 2005-2010.
I found this at:

World Magnetic Model - Fortran Download

It seemed a good time to introduce this as the new data begins Jan 2010.

It appears as useful info. to us who still use an old magnetic compasses on board.
It would help us to mentally adjust our compass readings.

Can this be something for OpenCPN 2010?

/Pete

An interesting point, as CMAP charts don't seem to contain deviation info. In most of the EU we're actually required to use a magnetic compass by law.

My Open CPN wish-list: Move Buttons? / Map Orientation? / AIS Information? /Track library? I use OpenCPN (c) 2000-2009 The OpenCPN Authors Version 1.3.4 and I am very happy and impressed by this software. I can't thank the people behind this enough. Can I contribute in any way?

1) One suggestion I have is that since computer-screens get w-i-d-e-r and ever wider it's wasting prime-space to put info and "buttons" etc. at top/bottom and thus making the all-important mapping-space even more "letter-box". My wish is that all non-map graphics is gathered on the right (or left) side of the screen and can be moved left/right very easily.

2) Another suggestion regarding a map course up orientation. I have used this option with other software and it is very good at times. But it has drawbacks like causing the map to wiggle back and forth nervously. My wish is for a "compass rose" that can be turned around (much like in Google earth) and thus allowing for a fixed manual "course up" without the wiggly action of a locked course up function in some other software.

3) It is very hard to read and absorb the AIS information that seems to come and go quite haphazardly. I wish it was possible to page through all captured AIS information collected since start up. That would be fantastic.

4) Ooh, yes, is there any way of creating and maintaining a track library?

Cheers and many well-wishes for 2010 from Blongsea

Question Please give a hand you landlubbers...

Please give me a hint where I can find and download current GRIB files relevant for the Australian East Coast and the Coral Sea. Cheers
