OpenCpn sfs file for Linux Puppy needed

I am trying to get away from Windows: It's forced updates, are depleting my bandwidth fast.

Currently I am running Opencpn completely from a memory stick on Puppy linux. This is working fine.
Unfortunately I could only find a old version , being OpenCPN_2.3.1_sfs4.sfs.--> This version can not use a WIFI connection and is at least 10 years old.
[I use WIFI to send NMEA data to a tablet (sealed in a plastic bag) mounted in the cockpit]

Does anyone know the whereabouts of a more recent .sfs version?

I tried a couple of Debian packages 4.8.... , but they don't contain all the needed lib's and dependencies, which is fine for Debian, as that program will download/install them automatically.

In Puppy Linux this not the case and they need to be added/installed manually.
Seeing I have no idea HOW to do this, I am looking for a link to download a more recent version of OpenCPN.......sfs ( one with WIFI capabilities)

many thanks for any info.

Not Puppy, but Xinutop is a distribution meant to run directly from a USB thimbrdive/ramdisk that is primarly OpenCpn but also a lot of other nav tools - will run great form any laptop produced later than year 2000.

Thanks for your suggestion Petter5, But I really want to stick with Puppy slacko or lucid, as both versions run on flash drive - CPN works fine and I can also use the internet and a lot more apps.
I am just looking for a updated version of OpnCpn*.sfs, that has WIFI capability.

Xinutop runs from a flash drive and the whole system is in sfs file -it is not your everyday Debian distribution.

Re: OpenCpn sfs file for Linux Puppy needed

Thanks Petter5.
I downloaded the img file and found it to work OK
It runs O-CPN fine. Good start..
Also the web browser (updated) connects to my internet router with WIFI and wired connection to get online.

The only problem I have is connecting to my NMEA radio by WIFI: Yet any windows, android & Debian Strech version receives the NMEA data OK for display on O.cpn

The NMEA data comes in on 192.168.4.1 port 23 TCP network.
Also I cannot access 192.168.4.1 via the browser, it just won't connect.

Can you suggest a solution?

As you sugested, I had a look around the Cruisers forum for a updated 'OpenCpn*.sfs' version but alas, I did not find any such file or link to it...

Re: OpenCpn sfs file for Linux Puppy needed

Please confirm that they both are on the same ip address range:
Code:
ifconfig -a
If on the same range, please try to ping the ip where your nmea data comes from:
Code:
ping 192.168.4.1

Any reply ?

Re: OpenCpn sfs file for Linux Puppy needed

The wifi connection in Win 7- 10 works fine, also ping 192.168.4.1 works , no lost packets. All good
BUT in Linux it does not even want to connect to wifi, so pinging does not work either.
The connection times out and gets auto shifted to the intermet router instead, irrespective of which boxes I tick/untick.

Xinutop states : ipconfig -->command not found

In Xinutop, Pinging the internet router 192.168.2.1 works -->no lost packets. All good , but as mentioned, in Xinutop it's nogo on NMEA wifi radio

Re: OpenCpn sfs file for Linux Puppy needed

Thats supposed to be ifconfig -a --> it only shows eth0 and wlan0
wlan1 would be the NMEA radio

That it is supposed to be ifconfig -a (I know) --> it only shows eth0 and wlan0
wlan1 is the the NMEA radio and does not show up in this list
It is just not connecting in these linux versions.

Re: OpenCpn sfs file for Linux Puppy needed

what is the model of your wlan card ( or computer model)

I normally use thinkpad's and have never had a problem with any wlan cards if using Xinutop.

It you have another old laptop around, please try to boot from the Xinutop usb key - older is better - Xinutop runs opencpn smoothly on a old Thinkpad T42 from 2003.

I run 4 laptops Lenovo T60, T61, T410 and Toshiba Portege R830.
Running Xinutop:
They all can "see" the wifi radio but cannot connect. They have the correct key or password--> The connection keeps timing out on 192.168.4.1
All laptops do however connect to the internet router via wired connection and Wifi and bring up the router page on 192.168.2.1.
