Then I will try to find more time to develop stuff that is (hopefully) less vague than an explanation, that will make clear why the things are done the way they actually are.
Yes, of course the fix will be partly like this.

You wrote that because I took issue with the
GPX 1.1 Schema Documentation definition of a
route, didn't you? Unless you don't agree it is possible to have a
route with three points in a straight line you have to agree the definition is incorrect.
Nowhere did I suggest you introduced the first bug ever since the beginning of software development. Since every programmer I've known--including me (a long time ago)--has done that at some time I'd say that honor belongs to Ada Lovelace.
My point was just that putting guids in the .gpx files caused a couple of problems with no offsetting benefit (that I could see), so why not just take them out? It's a quick, easy fix but you know better than I whether it's a good suggestion.
OpenCPN is a great program, getting better all the time, and I'm trying to contribute in my way. I don't know C++ so the best I can do is help track down bugs and offer suggestions about logic. If I didn't appreciate the great contributions everyone else has made to the
project I wouldn't bother.
