OpenCPN Routes Problem

Fabbian,
as now it's obvious that not just our implementation but also a worldwide accepted standard are wrong and that I probably introduced the first ever bug since the beginning of software development times, I'm going to spend my time with other things like actually fixing the bug that started this discussion.
Then I will try to find more time to develop stuff that is (hopefully) less vague than an explanation, that will make clear why the things are done the way they actually are.

You wrote that because I took issue with the GPX 1.1 Schema Documentation definition of a route, didn't you? Unless you don't agree it is possible to have a route with three points in a straight line you have to agree the definition is incorrect.

Nowhere did I suggest you introduced the first bug ever since the beginning of software development. Since every programmer I've known--including me (a long time ago)--has done that at some time I'd say that honor belongs to Ada Lovelace.

My point was just that putting guids in the .gpx files caused a couple of problems with no offsetting benefit (that I could see), so why not just take them out? It's a quick, easy fix but you know better than I whether it's a good suggestion.

OpenCPN is a great program, getting better all the time, and I'm trying to contribute in my way. I don't know C++ so the best I can do is help track down bugs and offer suggestions about logic. If I didn't appreciate the great contributions everyone else has made to the project I wouldn't bother.

The routes menu vernacular is very odd. I would think the buttons on the route manager pop-up would be:
Open (not import)
Close (not delete)
Save (not export)
Save As (not currently an option)

That sure would be more intuitive to most PC users.

Open/close/save usually refers to things being saved/opened for the use of the same program. For routes/waypoints/etc. this is not needed because they are all saved internally.

Import/export are when the save/open is being done to/from other programs or formats. So you export a route so it can be used by a GPS software, etc.

Windows programs many times use save-as in place of export.

Hello, I am new to this group and OpenCPN, and like the program very much. I have version Version 3.0.2 Build 2012-07-07, with the BSB4 Plugin, on a new PC running Windows-7, NOAA’s BSB3 charts and CHS’ BSB4 charts…

I have been creating my favorite routes in route manager. Today I have had difficulty with my blue pencil line route changing positions on the chart, when I zoomed-in for a closer look. My entire route changed position from where I put it… I realize that my charts have different resolutions, but shouldn’t my route points stay in the same exact locations, rather than changing positions, like over land… I tried dragging a few of my route points back to their proper location, but the route covers many miles…

I would expect that my route points should locked down and stay put, unless I move them, no matter what chart and resolution I use… I went back through the manual again, but it doesn’t contain any information for what I am experiencing… Any help would be appreciated…
