OpenCPN Release Candidate 3.3.2430 Released

Ahoy, OpenCPN'ers...
OpenCPN Version 3.3 Release Candidate 2430 will soon be available for download from opencpn.org.
Monitor the opencpn.org Downloads page to find and download the latest Beta version binaries.....

Source is available now on github at: https://github.com/OpenCPN/OpenCPN
Branch: master

Changelog:
449. Correct skewed chart/course-up mode ViewPort angle calculation.
450. Improve Options dialog layout regarding Transparent toolbar and Play Shipsbells.
451. On AZERTY (French) keyboard, suppress "_" key for zoom out, accept "-" for same.
452. Disable "[]\" chart rotation keys unless enabled by hidden config entry
453. Add "WGS_84" and "WGS-84" as aliases to "WGS84" chart datum.
454. Correct physical display size logic for rotatable devices.
455. Update embedded documentation. Thanks cagney
456. Disable automatic sending of Windows CrashReports, except by config option.

Release Notes:
This is the first Release Candidate of O4.
What that means is that this image, with one simple change to the displayed version number, becomes the actual OCPN 4.0 Release article.
It is an important milestone. We may elect to defer minor changes in appearance and wording from this point on, in the interest of stability.

Significant updates here include:
1. Major update to the embedded documentation. Many, many thanks to Thomas (cagney) for pulling extra duty over a busy Xmas season.
2. All final international translations included.
3. Automatic Windows Crash Report email is disabled, but may be enabled by the user in the config file:

[Settings]
EmailCrashReport=1

Crash Reports are saved in the OpenCPN config directory, i.e. where the log file is stored now. End users may occasionally be asked privately to send these reports to a designated recipient.

Reason for change: My mail server for capturing CrashReports will be overwhelmed if we get a systematic crash scenario in the field. If this scenario happens, we will handle it as a special case.

Folks, I literally am done with my list for O4. We should make every effort to test this RC as extensively as time allows. Assuming no serious flaws, we can expect to ship O4 in about 4-5 days.

Thanks, and good luck
Dave

Re: OpenCPN Release Candidate 3.3.2430 Released

Hi, thanks for this new release.
I'm of to my boat for a live test but first a short installation info:
On W7 I received the message as of attached picture and the directory "CrashReports" wasn't created. I suppose the installer was out of rights to create the folder. In WinXP the folder was created without problem.
I haven't yet done any further investigations of the installer.
Method, as usually, to create the installer:
Fetched source one hours ago.
Built source and package in MVC++ 2010. - Installed in W7 and WXP

Re: OpenCPN Release Candidate 3.3.2430 Released

Hello Dave,

1. Install the required parallel since 3.2.2 and other beta already preinstalled. It is necessary that we were testing a version with main installation. I imagine that beta testers are all in parallel. It could be that this hides bug.

2. ASUS EeePC 2 PC 1015H, W7 Starter: Same as PytheasF54 and this each time you start O.

3. I tested the charts of my stick in 2013 VMH. This time, no problem, the display is good.

4. In the Options, Boats, AIS targets, there is the item "Hide anchored / moored targets, max speed (kn)." In Options, units, we freely choose our unit. Alpha user chooses the kilometers may not understand that, here, it is obligatory nautical miles.
It may be too late to change that, but can be done in an upcoming beta.

5. Dasboard: Preferences are displayed in English, as if the language file in French was not taken into account. And it seems to me that a long time it is.

Grib plugin: Same problem, it is in English, in preferences and in the main window too.

Dasboard and Grib: There are just few words in French. Probably because these words are common to the main language file O.

I have downloaded the Dashboard language file from the crowdin and I made a ".mo file" with Poëdit, I put it in O. Then the Dasboard displays in French and ditto for the GRIB ... Strange.

6° I use my NV-Verlag dongle. Ok, My charts are correctly displayed.

So it was an error with screen size calculation as bcn supposed already.
BTW this is fixed in Mac OSX version also now where sometimes the vertical size doesn't see the bottom chart bar.
However the Chart-Info-Window still shows faulty informations which is bad when the user wants to know e.g. the chart release date. Sometimes a default date hard coded in the sources (2000-01-01) is shown.

An old problem. At first start language files are not loaded. Stop and start OCPN again and the language are loaded.

Re: OpenCPN Release Candidate 3.3.2430 Released

Thanks for all the efforts.

This RC version 3.3.2430 works great on my small "nano"
BananaPi ARM system with Lubuntu Linux.

Working on a 5 volt DC, 2 amp Powersupply with a Cigarette lighter connector for usb !

Software and Charts are on a 16 Gig SD memory.

I'am now looking for a small rugged 12 volt led daylicht Screen to be fitted on my 30' boat.

Keyboard is a small Logitech wireless K400r with a Pad. Remains one usb port for the Nmea stream via a serial-usb convertor.

Regards from the Netherlands,

Bram

Yes, I had noticed this long too. Except that this time, I launched O and arrested O several times and the problem still existed. This is what motivated my language file changing experience.

The 2 items of this message are not in the file language in crowdin.

Re: OpenCPN Release Candidate 3.3.2430 Released

Chart cells :

This item is not in O file language.

It is in S63 file language and it is translated in french S63 file language

#: src/s63_pi.cpp:412

File: s63_pi.pot

But it is not translated when O run.

I already mentioned this detail. But maybe it is a problem with the plugin.

See screenchot

Same problem as above with Dashboard and Grib plugins.
There was an attempt to fix this with commit "Improve PlugIn language support by forcing ocpn core to take precedence on translations." but this has made things worse as before for me and so I reverted it in my own version of OCPN.
I suppose it is the workflow of the program which is rather hard to understand for me reading the source code. There are other examples where the pogram makes other things as it should.
