The GD=UNKNOWN was recommended in the NGA project (by me) where there was no way of knowing the datum.
As already has been mentioned, it's worth discussing how to handle these charts, that probably are OK for traditional navigation, but dangerous together with a GPS.

Checking my earlier list of rejected European datums against georef.cpp and this page NGA: Europe Datums Table and wikipedia I conclude that

18:41:37 CET: Chart datum {EUROPEAN DATUM 1950} invalid on chart
is just another name for
{ "European 1950", 14, -87, -98, -121 }, // 28

18:41:38 CET: Chart datum {Ord Surv of Gr Britain 1936} invalid on chart is just another name for
{ "Ord Srvy Grt Britn", 0, 375, -111, 431 }, // 76

18:42:34 CET: Chart datum {European 1950 (Norway Finland)} invalid on chart is just another name for
"European 1950", 14, -87, -98, -121 }, // 28

18:42:57 CET: Chart datum {ED50} invalid on chart is just another name for
"European 1950", 14, -87, -98, -121 }, // 28

18:42:35 CET: Chart datum {RT90 (Sweden)} invalid on chart s just another name for
{ "RT 90", 3, 498, -36, 568 }, // 86

The line
18:42:24 CET: Chart datum {Monte Mario 1940} invalid on chart
Checking this site Supported Datums
a line like
{ "Monte Mario 1940", 14, -104, -49, 10 },
could be worth testing.

I think that the datums in red above could just be added to O:s list.

Thomas
@Thomas---haha part of the discussion might be:
How many bsb/kaps were ever published anywhere with these datums?
As an example I have never seen a CHART bsb/kap with "GD=NAD27 Canada" and considering that bsb/kaps formats were original and even proprietary to Canada and the US in the 90's... I think this is cogent.
NGA charts were never published as bsb/kaps..?
so far, "safe" PUBLISHED Headers I know are ....NAD83 WGS84 WGS_84
and NAD27 if "read" as WGS84. ...NAD83 charts I have may also be internally corrected and show as WGS84 in GDAL as do my published NAD27's.

Re: OpenCPN Release Candidate 3.3.2430 Released

I wouldn't call this a bug, but the quilting S/W sort of hiccups while panning down the NY state barge canal.

I'm at chart 14786_59, zoomed to scale= 15800, the next chart (_60) appears in the chart bar but isn't quilted. (EC1)

If you left click the chart bar (2nd chart from the left) to see its contents, chart _60 will be displayed quilted with _59 properly.

If you don't click the chart bar, and drag it a little further west, it will display a strange quilt. (EC2)

Drag it a little bit further and it will _59 disappears and _60 is dispalyed.

OpenGL off or on is the same. Chart Look Ahead doesn't have any effect

I use the following hexa editor

Didn't think of bsbfix

Gilletarom...

The problem with S63 translations is indeed a trouble with the PlugIn. We had some scrambling of S63 .po files somewhere, and some translations did not make it into the .mo files.

We are going to update S63 shortly for some other issues, so this will be fixed soon. At that time we will need to check all the S63 .po files, as some were corrupted and needed reinitialization or heavy editing.

Meanwhile, I attach a rebuilt .po/.mo file set for your review. You may copy the new .mo into the proper location, after renaming it. And share with friends.

Thanks
Dave

The reported chart scale is now correct after manually setting the screen width.

Re: OpenCPN Release Candidate 3.3.2430 Released

This is not exactly a bug, but some unexpected behavior.
I usually turn the 'Lights' off in the object list in the toolbox vector chart settings to declutter the screen.
Then I turn them on and off when needed using the 'l' keyboard shortcut
But after exiting O with the lights off, they are on when opening O anew.

Suppress scaled vector charts on over-zoom
The scaling of lines and number will be turned off. Applies to vector charts only.
Do not know what this means or does. Using ENC, there is no discernible difference between having it on and having it off that I can determine. Perhaps the description needs improvement, but I can't help with that at this point. Perhaps something isn't working.

PS: I might as well say it. Somewhere between Overzoom and when a chart is a max scale, I think it would be good if the soundings symbols were increased by a factor of 1.2.

Suppress scaled vector charts on over-zoom

With this option OFF, do you not see this?

Angry YIKES my Canadian charts not longer work

I have a Canadian charts circa 1996 that are NAD27 that have worked in all versions of opencpn that I ave used for the last few years including the last beta. They will not work in 3.3.2430. I hope this can be fixed, I really liked the last beta and want to be able to use 4.0. I can email a couple of sample charts to someone if needed.

-- Yes I do see the pixels.
I see that raster chart symbols Pavel posted here.
Using one small scale Long Island ENC chart, going from greatest scale down to Overzoom (Scale 4950 4.0x) the sounding symbols remain the same size.
Overzoom (Scale 1300 15x) the sounding symbols start to grow in size.
Overzoom (Scale 600 33x) the sounding symbols stop growing, no more zoom.

Overzoom is not an area we should really be using much.
Shouldn't "sounding symbols" grow in size well before "overzoom" is hit?
Can we toggle larger soundings somehow?

On the symbol table I note there are dark and light number symbols.
Can we toggle darker soundings somehow?

I intend to create scaled graphic of the chart scale vs soundings for greater understanding.

Re: OpenCPN Release Candidate 3.3.2430 Released

Rick....

Did you not read my post elsewhere?

These raster symbols are part of IHO standards for ECDIS, which we support. We won't fool around with them in normal operation, because they were designed for universal use.

We could of course have a Feature Request for another mode entirely. But the default mode will be IHO ECDIS compatible.

So please don't expect that the default mode will arbitrarily grow the bitmaps with normal zoom/scales. Won't happen.

Thanks
Dave
