Re: OpenCPN RC(2) 4.1.1317 Release

Hello All,

Well, I went into the secret corridors OpenCPN and I got rid of the troll. I knocked out and tied up in the corbeil PC. That will teach him to annoy me.

That said, he wanted to forbid me to copy a route. Now I get there. After that, I stuck the road twice. Funny idea ... but you tell me what you want, I like to walk in the corners.
But I observe qu'OpenCPN gives a name to this route. Why not. But the two routes have the same name.

Is this a good idea? Not certain.

Anyone else having trouble with alarm sounds?

You may test easily by setting an anchor watch with GPS input disabled. Alarm should sound, independent of ownship position relative to anchor watch point. Thus the anchor watch function acts as a GPS validity alarm as well.

Turn on the GPS, move the watch point close to the ship, and the alarm should stop.

Thanks
Dave
Dave

I found the culprit to my sound problem, and it's working again.
I deleted this line in my opencpn.ini
Quote:
SoundDeviceIndex=6
(line 475 by the way).

Thew question is now where did that line come from?

Do you really turn on and off different NMEA streams into OpenCPN when cruising? When testing different devices we all do this but I think it is a bad idea for real life navigation. OpenCPN does not handle this well at all. Especially the Dashboard plugin does not like it at all. So my recommendation is to get your NMEA setup working the way you want and don't mess with it whilst navigating on the ocean. Navigating from your chair by the nice warm fire is a different thing and you can do as you will.

A name is just a name.

Folks...

Coming up on the last call for OpenCPN 4.2 translations.

There are still several popular languages whose translations are in-complete on crowdin...e.g.

Completion percentages:
German: 66%
Danish: 50%
Russian: 28%

We really appreciate the efforts of all those unsung developers who have contributed significant effort to creating and maintaining the OpenCPN translations.

Thanks again
Dave

Re: OpenCPN RC(2) 4.1.1317 Release

@alexej-osm...

re:
Crashes on OSM maps with O4.1.1317

I downloaded and tested a map bundle, and found that OCPN did, indeed, crash often. The responsibility is shared.

a). The OSM .KAP files do not contain an entry in the line offset table for line 0. This is not well defined, since there is really no good specification for .KAP file formats. Some older .KAPs also start at line 1. But most modern .KAPs do start at line zero.

.and.

b) OpenCPN 4.1.x did not handle this case well. It crashes. Earlier Versions did a better job of detecting and working around this line format.

I have corrected OCPN 4.1 to allow for this situation. And now the maps display fine without trouble. I note that starting the line offset table at line 1 will probably introduce a one-pixel error in latitude georeferencing for these maps at native scale. So you may wish to modify your .KAP generation code.

Thanks for the charts.

Re: OpenCPN RC(2) 4.1.1317 Release

Win10, VS2013, Git fetch 1 hour ago. Screen: 1366x768
a)
The new grib icons are nice but rather big. How do I scale them smaller? They are not affected by the UI > "Menu size slider"
b)
The OCPN icons are able to scale but not smaller then 0, lower than zero has no effect.

Hakan..

And if you activate/enable Scaling for tablets? (on your screenshot it is not enabled)?

Btw.: scaling of chart objects does as well work for positive values but not for negative ones.
One the other hand chart objects are not been shifted vertically any more when applying a negative factor as it did happen in the previous beta.

Gerhard, I like to old style Grib icons better too. Perhaps the SVG will improve over time.

Actually they have implemented a line in the logfile wether PNG or SVG icons are activated. That solves however not the problem with ugly SVG icons. I can see it myself on the screen without opening the logfile...

Gerhard,

No one will complain if you create new beautiful SVG icons for the plugins.

re:"And if you activate/enable Scaling for tablets? (on your screenshot it is not enabled)?"
For Grib icons: Enabled "Scaling for tablets" make the icons ~10% smaller for the same slider position (0) compared to a disabled "Scaling for tablets". So, yes, that's slightly better, thanks.
However negative values has still no impact neither on OCPN nor Grib icons, as you mentioned.

What if making the "0" value 50% smaller, don't use negatives, and use 50% as default??
