Hi,

I have a 4Gb RPi4 running the latest 18.04.3 Ubuntu desktop - pretty well.Tried the Ubuntu PPA for OpenCPN but there is no installation candidate.

Does anyone know how I can install the latest OpenCPN on RPi4 Ubuntu?

Which PPA are you using?

pencpn

pencpn

Repo installs fine if I search for opencpn I get all opencpn-plugins and doc and gshhs but no opencpn and a message saying opencpn not available.

Why not use open plotter? Not quite all there yet for the pi4 but install one file then menus to install opencpn and the wonderful signalk.

I am using Ubuntu desktop on the pi4 not raspbian.

We have used openplotter before but cannot get it to work on Ubuntu.

Then RaspberryPi4 is not compatible with the available armhf package.
Try to install it directly, bypassing the PPA, and you will know!

Would you have a link to updated Ubuntu 18.04 compile instructions?

Doesn't it make more sense to use a distro which is designed and optimised for the pi4?

That's the fun of experimenting. I have a 'optimised' version of Ubuntu 18.04.3 running just interested in seeing what OpenCPN looks like on it.

Currently compiling so expect that to take a while

Expected it to be maxing out all 4 cores but it doesn't seem to be.

. Make sure to get signalk on there as well, it's just great! Install walk though for the pi on git.

SO openCPN compiled fine and has been running for a day or so. No crashes or other issues.

The main problem is I cannot get the plugins for oesenc and S63 to compile so I cannot load the charts I am interested in. They only compile armhf packages.

As a comparison I also built the latest raspbian and installed opencpn. There is no real difference in performance between raspbian and Ubuntu they both work about the same.

Ubuntu looks like it is from 2019 raspbian from 1999! There is no real price for the much more appealing and smart Ubuntu desktop.

If I can get the plugins to work then I can test appropriately.

Was that with the graphics accelerator enabled in raspbian?
