Re: OpenCPN Radar Overlay PlugIn

why not combine - gradar and br 24 radar in single plugin?
is not it time to think about standalone radar display and processing of individual settings windows in single easily accessible radar remote control radar.

Re: OpenCPN Radar Overlay PlugIn

Hello Dave,

I do not mean in this question plug in AIS radar.
I am interested in the plugin "Radar overlay".
It is now time that the work on the use of radar with OpenCPN is launched. I guess it starts to take shape. I searched a pot file without finding in the github plugin Radar.

It is considered that there is one in the future?

Best regards, Gilletarom

Yes, we all are, but Gilletaron, don''t you think there is enough going on?
In fact, too much all at once?

3. Many other plugins too.
Its really quite incredible.

RGleason, I do not cry ....

I am currently doing the rounds of plugins to further translations. Yesterday and the day before yesterday, I advanced the translation of several plugins Sean. They are in the hands of other users for checking my translations. You will be online soon.

Pavel and Dave also developing plugins. I apologize in advance, but without disturbing them with questions, how to understand which are the developments?

For plugin "radar overlay", it may be considered to be for bsb4 and NVC-Chart plugins, ie it does not have there language file ....

Afterwards, if Dave has time, it can be answered. And if not, it will something else. And I do not blame him. He is the master, I am the slave ....

I myself clear?

Re: OpenCPN Radar Overlay PlugIn

Gilletaroom... I imagine you are very busy too with the most important language department of Opencpn! If you look at downloads in sourcforge, it gives some idea of the major lanquages that are used, many are not English! ...so do not let me interfere with your efforts! Thank you..

PS I guess the process is pretty straightforward and described Internationalization | Official OpenCPN Homepage --Does the po file replace words on the fly at runtime?, or is it when Opencpn is opened? Maybe the later... Is there a way to do shortcut keys for commands I wonder..

Re: OpenCPN Radar Overlay PlugIn

Hi Dave,
We're back in the rathole. One of our XP PCs bit the dust. One of our XP PCs bit the dust with a dead screen. I searched for, and found a new Windows 7 PC. It wasn't easy.
Loaded the latest beta of OCPN, and everything works except for gradar. Even following the network setup you prescribed for Cindy's PC, we don't get the UDP sentence on the NMEA GPS data stream window, and no radar image.
PC Only has OCPN loaded on it...Brand new.
Help,
Matt

Re: OpenCPN Radar Overlay PlugIn

Matt...

OK, lets try this step by step, simplifying the environment as much as possible. Other network savvy WIN folks please follow along...

We need multicast UDP reception to run gradar.

As it happens, OCPN 3.3.1303 now supports UDP Multicast of NMEA streams, thanks to Muttnik

So, to prove that your hardware is capable of multicast reception, do this:

1. Two PCs, networked somehow (verify this please, by ping... ).
2. Master PC has a GPS, slave is the device we are interested in.
3. On master, set up a UDP output connection at address 224.0.0.8 (this is a well-known, benign and local-only multicast address).
4. On master, set up a connection to receive your GPS input, whatever that may be.
5. On master, open NMEA debug window and verify that you see BLUE UDP output to the specified port. UDP is connection-less, so will transmit without any receiver.
6. Leave master running.

7. On the second PC, which will be the Device Under Test (DUT), start OCPN 3.3.1303 with one UDP receive connection at the address mentioned above.
8. Open the NMEA debug window, and look for GREEN UDP accepted messages.

If you don't see GREEN, then somehow the DUT cannot receive multicast....

If you don't see GREEN, then we need Wireshark on the DUT to see what, if anthing, is coming over the wire.

Post any screen shots that look interesting.

Dave

Re: OpenCPN Radar Overlay PlugIn

Dave, got UDP sentences to show up on NMEA debug window. I think what turned it on was making it a two way street, checking the output box.

Mattt...

Did you check the output box on the master, or the slave?

Re: OpenCPN Radar Overlay PlugIn

Haven't networked the two pcs yet. This result was just on the new PC. Cindy has a bunch of stuff to do before doing the two PC thing..
I followed your previous instructions re: the UDP network connection in OCPN.
I have green and blue UDP messages, recognition of both 172.... Addresses , joining the 239.254.2.0 multicast group, but no response to clicking the radar icon. Stays red, no flicker, except for the top a of the OCPN window, so it knows the icon was clicked.
I'm in this rathole at the moment, studying and trying various permissions in the registry.....to no avail. At least until now, I haven't mucked up the PC.... Still working.

Re: OpenCPN Radar Overlay PlugIn

Matt...

On more thinking, the one-PC test is not much good. The loopback UDP multicasts are not actually coming in thru the network adapter, they are being echoed back inside the OS device driver. So we can't prove that the hardware is capable of receiving and capturing the multicasts.

We await two-pc tests.

Re: OpenCPN Radar Overlay PlugIn

Hi Dave, and you other OCPN gurus. I'm trying to isolate an intermittent (but fairly frequent) heading anomaly. I have a heading input from a rate compass, and the correct heading displays on the instrument dashboard. However, the boats Icon heading sometimes (not consistent time periods) changes for several seconds (sometimes up to 15 or more) before reverting to the correct heading. During this time, the heading display on the instrument dashboard remains the correct heading throughout. The amount of the heading error seems to be approx the amount of variation here (19 deg)
So, it appears that the dashboard plugin is not listening to the same data as the boat Icon?? I don't follow how this could be? Any assistance would be appreciated.
This issue is a real pain when using a radar overlay!
Thanks
Matt

Re: OpenCPN Radar Overlay PlugIn

OK, folks, I'm now in the "what happened mode." So far, I've bought a brand new Lowrance 3g radar, connected the power wires (3 ea.), connected the ethernet cable to the HP PC (running Win 7 Home) and can't locate an ethernet connection.

Some questions:
1. When I turn on power to the radar, there is no noise of an antenna running/turning. Is this normal?

2. When I go to the Network and Internet page, open Change Adapter Settings, there is no Ethernet connection shown, even though the radar is powered.

3. I know that the ethernet port works, because I use it to connect to the internet.

4. Do I need a crossover cable, or ethernet switch?

All comments appreciated. Except "why didn't you get a Garmin radar."
