opencpn plugin user help needed

I recently installed OpenCPN. It said it came with two plugins: dashboard and grib. Checking the plugins tab, only the Dashboard is listed. I would like to install some of the other plugins. I checked the opencpn.conf file and it lists (only Dashboard) plugins, but not the directory to place the library files (*.so).

So, I need to know where and how to install plugins; especially the grib plugin.

I am running: OpenCPN Version 3.2.2 Build 2013-05-08

Kevin...
grib plugin really comes packaged with OpenCPN and definitely should appear on the plugin tab without you having to do anything - look at the log (~/opencpn.log) what it has to say about it.
You are obviously using Linux, so the plugins belong to /usr/lib/opencpn/ for you - make sure you download the right ones for your architecture (32/64 bit)

Re: opencpn plugin user help needed

Okay, looking in the log file, I found this:
16:31:32 EDT: PlugInManager: Loading PlugIn: /usr/lib/opencpn/libcelestial_navigation_pi18_v15_amd64_pi.so
16:31:32 EDT: Error: /usr/lib/opencpn/libcelestial_navigation_pi18_v15_amd64_pi.so: wrong ELF class: ELFCLASS64
16:31:32 EDT: PlugInManager: Cannot load library: /usr/lib/opencpn/libcelestial_navigation_pi18_v15_amd64_pi.so
16:31:32 EDT: PlugInManager: Loading PlugIn: /usr/lib/opencpn/libgrib_pi.so
16:31:32 EDT: Error: libbz2.so.1.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
16:31:32 EDT: PlugInManager: Cannot load library: /usr/lib/opencpn/libgrib_pi.so
What is an ELF CLASS?

As for the grib... The file is there, but another library is missing?
kevin:/usr/lib/opencpn$ pwd
/usr/lib/opencpn
kevin:/usr/lib/opencpn$ ls -l
total 1792

-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 371060 May 8 11:32 libdashboard_pi.so
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 277352 May 8 11:32 libgrib_pi.so
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 391416 Jul 12 16:02 libweatherfax_pi18_v06_amd64_pi.so

Re: opencpn plugin user help needed

Kevin...
It looks like your system is 32bit (or at least you installed a 32bit version of OpenCPN), but you obviously downloaded 64bit versions of CN and WF plugins. That can't work.
Your system is also missing a BZ2 library needed by the grib plugin, that's why it does not show up. Which Linux distribution are you using?

Re: opencpn plugin user help needed

Pavel, Thank you.

I am running Ubuntu 13.04 (64 bit OS).

I will uninstall OpenCPN and ensure I load a 64-bit version. I thought I had done so, but I should be certain. The file is no longer in my Downloads directory.

Should the OS provide the missing library? Or, could that be because the wrong version was installed?

Re: opencpn plugin user help needed

Kevin...
It depends on how you install it, the deb definitely has the dependencies set. Any reason not to use the PPA at https://launchpad.net/~opencpn/+archive/opencpn and not have to care about this stuff at all?

Re: opencpn plugin user help needed

Pavel,

No, there is no reason not to use the PPA, other than I have never done that before.

Re: opencpn plugin user help needed

Kevin...
Just add it to your software sources and you are done forever... Then OpenCPN and it's updates will be available as any other application. Convenient. And documented at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Re...tu#Adding_PPAs

Re: opencpn plugin user help needed

Pavel,

I'll do that. I'm reading about it now, as I write.

Thank you so much for your help.

I found the problem. It is the operator as usual. Time to shut down and drink something to clear brain. Thanks again.
