/dev/ttyUSB0 ? this should be on a pc. But on an tablet / android?
I can't remember on Android (but I could check this) but otherwise the serial port pops up when connected, so you do not need to know whatt tty it is attached to. I am also not sure Android is a tty styled or COM styled spelling.
What happens when you connect the ais engine via the serial/usb adapter to your usb port on the tablet? Nothing pops up in the add serial port window?
What happens if connected as above you use any other serial port data App?
It sounds you are making a simple thing somewhat more complex than it is.
Start up the ais, connect the usb adapter, look up ports
on the tablet.
I would guess they come up as COM or dev/bus/usb ... rather than tty, because I have seen COM port monitoring Apps but never a tty one.
Try this and similar:
Remember as said there is software
that translates serial to net. OpenCPN connects to net easily.
