Re: OpenCPN on Raspberry Pi2

Jon,

What if you use wx 3.0? The error from 2.8 is easy to fix anyway.

Re: OpenCPN on Raspberry Pi2

It works fine under 3.0, just RPI as delivered has 2.8.

Re: OpenCPN on Raspberry Pi2

I know I am ignorant about this, but is it impossible to have wx3.0 included with ocpn or have it available for installation before ocpn without having to compile it on the pi?
I would guess that most rpi2 + ocpn users would find that acceptable if the installation is straightforward.

Re: OpenCPN on Raspberry Pi2

Latest opencpn compiled from git (4.1.1317).

When opening a GRIB toolbar window, if clicking the "minimize" button on the grib toolbar dialogue to minimize this window, also the main opencpn window will be minimized, making it impossible to use grib without having the grib toolbar window displayed on the opencpn screen.

Re: OpenCPN on Raspberry Pi2

Hi and thank you to you all for developing these programs.

I am getting ready to install a Raspberry Pi but am a little confused about this thread which seems to be about maximising OpenCPn installs on Rasp Pi and another thread about OpenPlotter http://www.cruisersforum.com/forums/...ct-152754.html which seems to have already got Rasp Pi working with OpenCPN.

What am I missing? Sorry I've read both and am still confused
Cheers Stephen

Re: OpenCPN on Raspberry Pi2

Help compiling rpi-fixes

With a Raspian jessie from here..
https://www.raspberrypi.org/downloads/raspbian/
Then installed the list from compiling linux..

Code:
sudo apt-get install build-essential cmake gettext git-core gpsd gpsd-clients libgps-dev wx-common libwxgtk3.0-dev libglu1-mesa-dev libgtk2.0-dev wx3.0-headers libbz2-dev libtinyxml-dev libportaudio2 portaudio19-dev libcurl4-openssl-dev libexpat1-dev libcairo2-dev
Then ..
git clone http://github.com/seandepagnier/OpenCPN -b rpi_fixes
cd OpenCPN
sudo mkdir build
cd build
sudo cmake ..
sudo make
sudo make install

Seemed to compile OK, runs fine but in openGL mode there is just a white screen, no charts, no frame rate displayed either.
Opengl turned off it seems the same as 4.0

Anyone know where I went wrong?

TIA

OpenCPN works on a Rasp Pi 2 , bits of this thread are about getting it to run faster.

Ok great, that makes sense! Keep up the good work, bit beyond my skills.
I'm going to get a system going asap

Re: OpenCPN on Raspberry Pi2

Nice, I haven't really been able to get mine to boot. Can you provide the model of touch screen and other information you did to get this going.

For the User Manual
RaspberryPI RPI2 | Official OpenCPN Homepage

I created an Install Page for RPI2
Please correct and augment. Either on the User Manual or here.
OpenGL?
wxWidgets?
OpenCPN 4.1.1317 & 4.2?
You could add Cubietruck below.
Thanks

Installing OpenCPN on RaspberryPi 2 (RPI2)

It may help to review King Tide Sailing "How To Install OpenCPN on a Raspberry Pi"
with additional helpful step by step installing NOOBS.
http://kingtidesailing.blogspot.com/2015/09/how-to-install-opencpn-on-ra... Part I: Setting Up the Raspberry Pi for OpenCPN
Part II: Installing OpenCPN

NOOBS ( stands for New Out of the Box Software) is an easy operating system installer which contains Raspbian. Raspbian is the official supported operating system. It also provides a selection of alternative operating systems which are then downloaded from the internet and installed, we are interest in Raspian Jessie.

Download NOOBS (Jessie) https://www.raspberrypi.org/downloads/noobs/ Getting Started https://www.raspberrypi.org/help/noobs-setup/
Install NOOBS (an easy operating system install manager) on a formatted SD Card. Follow the instructions for First Boot and Logging in.

Then follow instructions for installing Raspbian Jessie. https://www.raspberrypi.org/downloads/raspbian/

Install the list from OpenCPN for compiling linux..

OpenCPN must be compiled for installation.
sudo apt-get install build-essential cmake gettext git-core gpsd gpsd-clients libgps-dev wx-common libwxgtk3.0-dev libglu1-mesa-dev libgtk2.0-dev wx3.0-headers libbz2-dev libtinyxml-dev libportaudio2 portaudio19-dev libcurl4-openssl-dev libexpat1-dev libcairo2-dev
Then .. git clone http://github.com/seandepagnier/OpenCPN -b rpi_fixes
cd OpenCPN
sudo mkdir build
cd build
sudo cmake ..
sudo make
sudo make install

It should compile and run fine. OpenGL mode is just a white screen, no charts and no frame rate displayed.
With Opengl turned off it seems the same as 4.0

OpenGL

At present OpenGL does not work.

Current RaspberryPi Hardware

Pi 2 Model B, the second generation of the Raspberry Pi. The Pi 2 has four USB ports, 40 GPIO pins, and an Ethernet port, uses a 900MHz quad-core ARM Cortex-A7 CPU and has 1GB RAM. The Pi 2 is completely compatible with first generation boards. RAM on the Model 2B is on a separate chip on the bottom of the PCB, but 1GB is the maximum RAM that the SoC used by the Model 2B can support.

The Touchscreen 11" , 12 volt, 10 watt, water resistent, alu housing, hdmi is from:

shenzhen bestview electronic technology co.,ltd.

Look voor industrial monitors.

The only difficulty was to get the Raspy Pi 2 with Raspian in a fixed 800x600 mode. And to get the touch screen working.

I have the image here and can be put on a 32 Gig micro SD.

Sound is set via HDMI. Works with the small speakers on the monitor. So you can hear the Alarms bells ringing.

Audio through HDMI is handy, but on most monitors the HDMI Audio will be disabled if the screen goes into standby mode.

Cheers,
JM.
