I think Pixel is quite an awesome tablet and I would love (I guess) owning one.
The only limitation in not having a gps
chip on-board is that it is needs an external gps
while traveling (if you use it, say on a mountain, or bush, trek).
In the boat, there will likely be some form of gps already and if you want any extra data on the tablet (wind, depth
or onboard video cam), you WILL get the data via WiFi
We use a small 7 inch tablet here and when I used onboard, I get gps data via the same router that our AIS
data comes in. This is in fact less energy hungry solution than running the wifi
and the gps at once!
Maybe you resolve to keep the Pixel and get a plain inexpensive tablet for your shore trips (unless you already have one of those big screen
smartphones!). I think it is a great tablet with huge potential.
