OpenCPN on Android ?

Hello, I'm curious if there are any plans on porting OpenCPN to Android for use on Android based phones.

If not, I'd like to put in a request

yeah I imagine there will be growing interest here. The good news is Android is linux-based...the bad news is the Android preferred environment is java on top of linux, and I expect raw linux with wxWidgets won't work along with Android. So my guess is, porting will be somewhere between difficult and highly, very, extremely difficult (i.e. a rewrite into java, sans wxWidgets). It really would be great, though, so if a few folks had the time and experience and begged to differ, I'd be first to applaud.

yeah. Not sure how difficult that would be as I am TOTALLY unfamiliar with wxWidgets and barely familiar with Java. I do know there is a Java-wx interface. Not sure if that could be leveraged or not.. As I said I'm mostly clueless about both.

Interested too - trying on Debian on my phone

I would be very interested in a native port..

I have however been playing with trying to get it working under Debian (Debian is a version of linux that can happily co-exist with android, I still use all the android apps etc, my phone works as it should)

I have got as far as installing Debian using this guide
MyHangoutOnline - Tutorials, Downloads, Roms and More.
but I cannot get opencpn to compile.

When I run make I get; g++ internal error :killed program ; (program cc1+)

I will continue to poke at it and let you know how I get on..

Cheers

Sam

I'd google that if I were you Impressed you got the debian going. The failing CVS download you're describing elsewhere could be just due to the fact you haven't got it installed? NB The tarball is the most current code anyway as the lastest release is stable.
