Opencpn-no AIS sounds

Actually it isn't quite a 'no sounds' situation .... some .wav files play just fine but others do not. The .wav files play fine outside of ocpn. Has anybody ever figured out what is going on with this? BTW, I am running Ubuntu 12.04 and ocpn 3,2 ... the standard bell sounds included with ocpn just don't do it for me

All known Linux sound problems in OpenCPN are handled, one way or the another.
There is no version 3.2 ...., so
if you are on 3.0.2 upgrade to 3.2.2.
If you're on 3.2.0 upgrade to 3.2.2.
If you're on 3.2.2, and still have a problem with sound, make sure that lipportaudio is installed.
Code:
$sudo apt-get install libportaudio2
If you still have problems........give us all the relevant details.

Re: Opencpn-no AIS sounds

My apologies, Version 3.2.0 Build 2013-02-26. libportaudio2 is installed.
Turns out I am actually on Ubu8ntu 13.04 64 bit (sorry again)
Note that all the bell sounds (included .wav files in ocpn ) work. I have tried a number of new .wav files and most do not play (silence) but at least one plays very distorted.
I will see if I can upgrade to 3.2.2 and report back. What other details should I report ?

Can you attach one of the problem .wav files?
Compress file if necessary.
Add a .pdf to the filename to bypass some forum restrictions.

Re: Opencpn-no AIS sounds

not sure if this works but here is a .wav file modified with .pdf on the end

Hmmm, I guess this didn't work. What do I need to do to insert a file ? The file was only 9.9 kb ...

Click "Attachments", select your file, and then "Upload".

To insert the uploaded file, click "Attachments" again and select the uploaded file. It will be inserted at the cursor position.

Re: Opencpn-no AIS sounds

The previous file (that appears as a video) plays for me when I click on it.
Here is a second file that has a .pdf extension pasted to the file name.
Thanks for the hint on the attachments btw, I did things the long way around

Edit: The .pdf file shows as attached in the 'additional options' dialog but for some reason it doesn't actually show up on the post.

OK, I can repeat your problem, so you have found a new bug.

All the sounds that comes with OpenCPN, as well as all other sounds that I used, have a sampling rate of 22050.

Downloading and testing a few alarm sounds from AUTHENTIC NAVY ALARM SOUNDS,
I find that if the sampling rate is less, the sound is distorted or does not play at all. These files used to play with the old sound implementation, so this points to libportaudio.

Workaround for now -> use sound files with a sampling rate of 22050.

PS. Further test points more towards the the file-size than sampling-rates.

Re: Opencpn-no AIS sounds

Thanks for confirming the bug. I found some nice sounds on the site that you suggested and they are working just fine for my purposes!
