OpenCPN, MAC, Help

Hello Dave, Hello Hubert, Hello Carcode, and All,

I received a request for assistance by a French sailor. But his computer is a Mac. And I can not tell anything about his "galley".

So someone competent MAC could help would be nice. Here's what it is.

A French sailor, sailing in the Pacific, has asked for help. Here is the problem:

Macbook Pro Retina, recent 6 or 7 months, 8GB RAM, 500GB SSD, i5 processor, 2.6 Ghz, OSX 10.10.5. (Yosemite).

Open CPN 4.0.0. Raster Navigation charts of New Zealand. No problem. These raster charts are displayed very well.

S63 plugin installed. User permit obtained O-Chart.
Purchase and download paid charts on the Chart World website for French Polynesia.
The screenshot, below, shows the contents unzipped charts purchased on Chartworld.

In OpenCPN:
- Added user allowed.
- Added import permit cells.

The machine cycled long hours to create the necessary files.
Overall everything was working, slowly or very slowly.
But :
Now, you can not zoom or unzoom, or drag the chart area. In this case, the clock turns on the screen, nothing happens.
It is impossible to close Open CPN. We must force the application to quit.

Disabling the S63 module Open EIC working properly, with raster charts.

A complete uninstallation was performed. OpenCPN, plugins one hand, and the other charts have been un-installed.

Then everything was re-installed.
The result is the same each time. Except that the time for the ENC are ingested by OpenCPN varies from one time to another.

A second un-installing and reinstalling gave similar negative results.

Here join, Log file, and ini file in a zip file.

Log file : 9.5 Mo so too big. If necessary, i try to send also this file.

Best regards. Gilletarom.

Re: OpenCPN, MAC, Help

Gilletarom...

We need a logfile, but a shorter one will do OK.

Please request user:
1. Delete current logfile.
2. Start OCPN, and install S63 permits and cell updates, using normal method.
3. Force stop OCPN if necessary, and then post shorter logfile.

Thanks
Dave

Re: OpenCPN, MAC, Help

Gilletarom,

please tell him to switch off texture caching in settings/display/enhanced/graphic opengl options.
I never used ths feature for my Mac and have deleted these functions in my own Mac OS X version of OpenCPN. It is something for small low budget machines like RaspberryPi but not needed for powerfull machines.
Tell him also to try with and without OpenGL activated.
I have used only the S63 sample charts and never bought one. These worked fine. So I have never seen lines like that in the logfile:
Quote:
20:08:58 TAHT: Initializing Chart /Users/GirardRobert/Library/Preferences/s63/s63charts/49/1I3D62TR.os63
20:08:58 TAHT: "/Applications/OpenCPN.app/Contents/PlugIns/s63_pi/OCPNsenc" -n -i "/Users/GirardRobert/Library/Preferences/s63/s63SENC/1I3D62TR.es57" -o "/var/folders/86/ldm13fld7y9cb6mc7xb7_nhm0000gn/T/RO2m31" -u F4B6D145CB23D9FD3C10170A3147 -e EF88D2E2 -p 1I3D62TR20170131D53411B563C0CDA8D53411B563C0CDA891 0B4223E40A40BB,0,,49, -z "/Applications/OpenCPN.app/Contents/PlugIns/s63_pi/libs63_pi.dylib"
Ask Hubert from o-chart if it is correct.

Re: OpenCPN, MAC, Help

Up to now we did not have complaints from MAC-users with S-63 charts.
Those are about 15% of all users as in average for OCPN in total.

We have El Capitan (10.11.2) now and did run Yosemite before.
The only crashes we saw where not S-63 related but in context of the AIS text sticker memory leak.

Digesting for the first install of S-63 dats sets can take some time.
To give an idea for a stress test: The 600+ Australian charts (for a complete set that normally nobody will license) may take 30-45minutes.

For the rest: as Dave suggested.

Standing by....

Re: OpenCPN, MAC, Help

Hello Dave, Hubert, Carcode and All,

Here join a new log file after new test as Dave asked in his last post.

I note :
Ingesting all charts is very long.
No difference with openGL ON or OpenGL OFF.
With Quilting ON, all is very long when using the charts.

Best regards. Gilletarom.

Oups ....

You are right. Thank you for having me alerted

But this is the one I received. I will ask the French sailor to correct this situation.

Re: OpenCPN, MAC, Help

Hello Cacode,

With raster only, all is well, very quick.

With quilting ON and ENC only, all is very very slow.

With ENC only and Quilting OFF, slow.

Gilletarom,
we want to know if texture caching was enabled or disabled, see picture.

Re: OpenCPN, MAC, Help

Gilletarom,

in the log file from yesterday I don't see any strange things - nethertheless we should try to get the simplified one as Dave suggested.

Can you please forward a question to the user: are there perhaps S-63 charts involved that are passing the datum line?

Thanks

Hubert

Re: OpenCPN, MAC, Help

@ Carcode:

I know by mail exchanges that openGL or OFF, changes nothing. And moreover, the texture compression was not performed.

@ Hubert,

It's a recent purchase. So with charts, updated. And the last tests were carried out with an update charts received last week.

By cons, what I did not say is that this type of ENC navionics cards sell Chartworld.

Re: OpenCPN, MAC, Help

Gilletarom..

with "Datum line" I wanted to say being on both sides of 180º (East and West).

Navionics ENCs by Chartworld might be a hint as well:
In our early testing we found some proprietary Navionics objects (=not in the S-57 standard).
In order to find an offending cell it would be necessary to install one-by-one - adding just one chart by each step - in order to see if there is one "culprit".
This quite a work but the only way to see what goes wrong.

If the user is able to isolate offending cells then we would need those plus his PERMIT.txt file in order to analyze the chart/cell.

Thanks

Hubert
