Re: OpenCPN, MAC, Help

Dave....

looks like the system is playing with itself purging the chart cache:
Code:
14:08:19 TAHT: Loading chart data for /Users/GirardRobert/Library/Preferences/s63/s63charts/49/1I3C_C48.os63
14:08:19 TAHT: "/Applications/OpenCPN.app/Contents/PlugIns/s63_pi/OCPNsenc" -n -i "/Users/GirardRobert/Library/Preferences/s63/s63SENC/1I3C_C48.ehdr" -o "/var/folders/86/ldm13fld7y9cb6mc7xb7_nhm0000gn/T/LBONrR" -u F4B6D145CB23D9FD3C10170A3147 -e EF88D2E2 -b 49501 -p 1I3C_C4820170131AFAB3A86AB37C063AFAB3A86AB37C06320417EB779E99BB1,0,,49, -z "/Applications/OpenCPN.app/Contents/PlugIns/s63_pi/libs63_pi.dylib"
14:08:20 TAHT: Replacing older chart file of same path: /Users/GirardRobert/Library/Preferences/s63/s63charts/49/1I3C_C48.os63
14:08:21 TAHT: Chart cache purge
14:08:21 TAHT: ChartDB Cache policy: Max open chart limit is 20.
14:08:21 TAHT: Loading chart db version: V018
14:08:21 TAHT: Chartdb: Chart directory list follows
14:08:21 TAHT: Chart directory #0: /Users/GirardRobert/Documents/Cartes/BSB_ROOT
14:08:21 TAHT: Chart directory #1: /Users/GirardRobert/Library/Preferences/s63/s63charts/49
and this goes on and on.......
As there are a lot more than 20 cells/charts the system is swapping and swapping and ....

I've not seen his on our actual systems.

Hubert

I ask the french sailor about the W or E problem.

He says :
"The charts do not care who a mess S63 range from 122 ° W to 154 ° W OUF ...! But the idea was very judicious."

Re: OpenCPN, MAC, Help

Gilletarom...

Here is for the French Polynesian Mac user.

1. The problem is a bcn notes. There is a problem with OCPN cache settings. This is made worse with Chartworld S63 cells. These chart sets use very many small cells to cover a geographic area, and this is not very efficient for OpenCPN.

The problem becomes much worse when the user zooms out to cover a large area. Too many cells on the screen at one time.

The user solution is as follows:
a. Edit the file
Code:
 /Users/GirardRobert/Library/Preferences/opencpn.ini
and add a line:
Code:
 NCacheLimit = 200
b. For best performance, try to avoid high zoom-out with S63 charts.

Hope this helps. Please let me know the results.

Thanks for the interpretation.
Dave

Hello Dave,

Thank you for Him. I'll send it knowing that in a few days it will not be available. The trial test will be done as soon as possible.

This is an example of what we are talking about (Chartworld Navionics set Bahamas) - each rectangle is a single chart/cell. And you can imagine how the chart piano looks like in case like that...

I understood, seeing the screenshots of the French sailor, there was a "enormous" amount of cells. My intuition had already made me understand that there was, perhaps, something to do about it.

So, just two questions:
- If the cells are distributed by the French sailor, in different folders (but calling all "root", leaving it to him to better organize its hard drive), this does improve the operation?
- Is it possible, with Navionics charts to make this kind of breakdown?

NB: I will ask, that "French sailor," to help me create some specific pages for MAC in the French tutorial shoreline. If you have specific information to pass me, they are welcome and I will integrate in the tutorial.

Thank you by advance. Gilletarom.

Re: OpenCPN, MAC, Help

Gilletarom,

first this is not an issue limited to MAC. Does exist for all platforms.

You are suggesting chart groups, aren't you?
This will most probably not work:

The s63 charts are in directories that depend on the chart provider, in this case Chartworld with the ID "49"
ChartDir=C:\ProgramData\opencpn\s63\s63charts\49
(Windows example - for other architectures changes the location, no other difference)

Even if you install the charts in different steps or from different directories on your PC they will end up all in the same s63 subdirectory.

Perhaps Dave has an additional idea, but I fear that we will have to attack this in a more general manner.

Hubert

Re: OpenCPN, MAC, Help

Hello Hubert,

No, I do not propose to use a group.

Hello Dave

I propose to divide the folder that contains the cells in multiple folders, corresponding to several areas on earth. And I propose to state in OpenCPN, only one of these folders. So, OpenCPN has only some charts to manage.

This summer, with my old ASUS 1001H, at first, I declared all the charts. The PC was very slow. I got used to report charts for only the area where I was sailing. And this little OpenCPN worked better.

Moreover, I am disappointed that this MAC is unable to resolve this situation. Yet it has more capacity my Lenovo, which, too, has more capacity than my old ASUS.

Just a thought. Is it possible, in the file "opencpn.ini" to set up a configuration, automatic, taking into account the size of the available RAM on the host PC? This should help to solve, at least partially, the kind of galley encountered by the French sailor.

Re: OpenCPN, MAC, Help

hello Dave, Hubert, Carcode, ...

For a long time this thread is silent but finally here is some information. The French sailor, for whom I speak, who finally had time to do other tests.

He sais me :
"
I just update OpenCPN, the S63 module. I also reinstalled the latest version of the charts S 63, which are sent to me every week by Chartworld.

I made the mod on the file "opencpn.ini" for the record:

Do this:
- Here: /Users/GirardRobert/Library/Preferences/opencpn.ini
- Open opencpn.ini file (with a text editor.)
- Add a line, apparently anywhere, which contains just this: NCacheLimit = 200
- Save the file in the same place.

All this does not create real change in software behavior. Avoid large amplitude zooms on charts S63. We must return to the "big Raster", before tracing or to view a larger chart portion with S63.
"
